A DISers Book Club!

Finished "The Road" ... how sad and bleak and powerful... the movie is coming out soon, I hope they get it right. Im not sure what to read next .

I finished Freedom Writers yesterday and loved it! Great piece to look at!

I just started The Lost Symbol today at work while we had D.E.A.R. time. I hate how his books always start of so slowly and technical-like. I am hoping that it picks up soon!

Sara Paretsky has released the latest V. I. Warshawski novel - Hardball!

If you like detective novels, hard-boiled, real detective novels, she is the best. I've been waiting for this since January. I'm punching the order button on Amazon now. :cool1::cool1::cool1::thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I finished "Just After Sunset" by Stephen King yesterday. I really like his short stories!

I just finished reading The Girl with the Dragon tatoo. I litte hard to get into but enjoyed it and just started The Girl Who Played with Fire by the same author with some of the same charaters.

Anyone into Janet Evanovich? I haven't started, but want to read her Finger Lick'en Fifteen. I like how she's name her books, one, two, three, etc.

Anyone into Janet Evanovich?
I have several of her books. Janet Evanovich has created a kooky character in this series. I have enjoyed them.

Are there any Donald Miller fans out there? I am planning on getting his new book A Million Miles in A Thousand Years tomorrow since it's my day off, and I'm dying to read it. I have heard very good things, even that it tops Blue Like Jazz. That would be pretty hard to do, but we'll see.

I just finished listening to Cathedral of the Sea by Ildefonso Falcones - an account of life in Medieval Barcelona in the 14th century -- although not as good as "Pillars of Earth/ Word Without End" it is a good read if you're into historical fiction (I seem to be into it lately) popcorn::

I just finished Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.
This book two of three, started with The Hunger Games.

"A gripping story set in a postapocalyptic world where a replacement for the United States demands a tribute from each of its territories: two children to be used as gladiators in a televised fight to the death."

That the fighters are groomed to be made more telegenic and the tournement is televised as entertainment makes it a little too lcose to todays reality TV.

This is a teen book, but adults around here have also enjoyed it.
Gripping and a relatively quick read.

Happy Thanksgiving Katherine (and John). :)

I just finished The Lost Symbol. I hated the ending. HATED IT!

Reading The Monster of Florence now. It's about an Italian serial killer.

A buit gruesome....but it takes place in and around Florence, Italy, so I'm willing to take the gruesome to get the Florence.

I loveeeeeeeee her books! I am totally addicted to them!

Another vote for Janet's Stephanie Plumb books. If you have the option, start w/ the first one. You can pick them up out of order, but it's more fun to have all the background stories.

Hated it because it was bad or hated it because you didn't want it to end. I haven't decided if I want to read this one, I've read his others.

I might have to check out The Monster of Florence - I hate to admit it, but I like gruesome and I love Italy.

Sounds interesting Kevin!
I will have a look at that book this week.
I like murder mysteries.

I'm back again looking for book suggestions for my DD15 - ya'll gave us some great suggestions this summer.

Her English teacher is telling her she needs to read more challenging materials - something a teacher can tell her but her mom doesn't know what she is talking about. Oh well.

All suggestions are welcome - she loved Harry Potter, Twlight series, Lord of the Rings (has not finished all three)

Have been trying for two weeks now to finish Pillars of the Earth and Garden of Last Days. Liking them both, not sure why it's taking me so long, I can usually get through a 300-400 page book in about 3-4 days, I realize Pillars is a lot longer, but I thought it would be a week at most. I've decided to just concetrate on one now, and since I'm only about a hundred pages from the end I've decided to finish Garden of Last Days, I'm really liking it, takes place on the west coast of Florida, another of those books where all the characters interact, but really don't know it, from the author of House of Sand and Fog, which I haven't read, but now am kind of interested.
