A DISers Book Club!

Good Evening :)

I am a new book club member. Thanks Kevin for the mention on the latest podcast! :) Right now I am reading The Fiery Cross, the 5th Diane Gabaldon book in the Outlander series. I read the first 4 quite a while ago, but now that the 7th one is out, it's motivated me to 5 and 6, that have been sitting on nightstand!

I am new to this one too. Thanks Kevin for mentioning it! I love the Gabaldon books too. I have the 7th one but feel I need to re-read the 6th first. It's been a long time. It takes her FOREVER to write a book!! Worth the wait though.

Also in my "to read" pile: The Help
Currently reading: Evidence by Jonathan Kellerman

Has anyone read the Ridley Pearson's Kingdom Keepers series? Well, there are only 2 now, but 3rd coming in April 2010. They are kids books, but I really had fun reading them!

I got the Lost City of Z e-book from the library. Does anyone remember if this was the book Pete recommended a few months back? I thought it was, so I got on the wait list and it just became available. I haven't started it yet. I have The Lost Symbol in progress, also an e-book loan from the library. I'm reading them on my netbook. Only down side of the library e-books is I only get 14 days so the clock is ticking. Has anyone read the Lost City of Z?

That is the book Pete recommended.

Now I'm reading the non-fiction "Columbine." I just started, but I plan to really get into it after the Halloween festivities.

Thanks. I had better get reading and push through the Dan Brown book. I'm only at chapter 25 and it's all so illogical. Langdon certainly doesn't act like a smart guy with the experiences he's supposed to have had.

It really disappointed me...it's like he just pulled out his stock characters, his stock storyline, plugged in a few ridiculous symbols and presumptions, and sent it out. It's lazy, and I resent having spent the little money I did on it.

I agree.

I was FASCINATED by The Da Vinci Code but The Lost Symbol lost me.

I didnt care that the Capitol Building had a basement.

I kept thinking that CIA director sounded like Edna Mode.

I thought Langdon sounded and acted like a doofus.

And the silliest part was the description of the Noetics lab and where it was located. I use a pocket flashlight to walk the dogs. That thought never occured to anyone else? A couple of light bulbs? Some night lights? She could have just turned her iPhone on.

The bad guy spent too much time looking in the mirror.

And the ending ticked me off to no end.

I didn't want to pass judgment, having not finished it yet, but that's exactly my take on it thus far. Thankfully, I didn't spend a cent of my own money on it.

I agree. In fact I didn't even bother finishing it! I felt like it stopped chapters before the actual end of the book.

And I hate to say it but I'm feeling the same way with Echo in the Bone...kind of feels like she wrote it just to fullfill a contract. She's an excellent researcher but this book was just a little too over the top with the details. :(

I have! I enjoyed the first one, but haven't gotten a hold of the second one, yet. It's probably going on my Christmas list, as I'm taking Master's degree courses and currently don't have time to read anything but required texts, and what I'm reading out loud to my class. :confused3 I will be reading incessantly over Christmas break, and I can't wait!!!! And thanks to this thread, I'll have plenty of suggestions! :goodvibes

Oh! And SERIOUSLY....

If your son started taking steroids, would you automatically find him unrecognizable??? Seriously???

Thanks to a hiatus from class, I have caught up on some reading. <Finally!>

J R Ward - Covet - A little slow to start, but I just adore her characters. This is about Fallen Angels saving the world on sin at a time.

Karen Marie Moning - The Highlander Series - I'm reading them out of order, but they are stand alone books. So far, I have knocked out Beyond the Highland Mist, To Tame a Highland Warrior, The Dark Highlander, The Immortal Highlander <Extra Yummy!>, and Spell of the Highlander. She has strong (i.e. stubborn) females along with just as strong male counterparts. There are 8 books in the series so far.

Molly Harper - Nice Girls Don't series - Very cute series. I can't wait for the 3rd installment.

Lynsay Sands - The Renegade Hunter - Oh Nicholas, how I love thee!

I've read them both. They're great "in between" books. Sometimes after reading a really long, involved book - I"ll pick up something light to read before I start another long one. Helps clear the mind. I used to be able to read several boks at once, but now I keep getting the characters from one confused with the others... Just another joy of getting older( almost as much fun as having to get up in the middle of the night for a potty break :rotfl2: )

Thanks for mentioning that book, I had forgotten that Pete mentioned it on the podcast... as said before - a joy of getting older

Hello

I am glad this thread is here. I am always looking for something good to read. I finished The Lost Symbol a while back and while I enjoyed it, it didnt have the "I just cant put this book down" power that the DiVinci Code had.

I love all types of books, The Stand is one of my all time favs, Patricia Cornwell, Steve Berry, Harry Potter books, Kathy Reichs just to name a few. I have a serious book addiction, DH doesnt understand it, but heck he isnt a reader.

I just finished Denise Swansons latest book, they are cute mysteries that you can read in a day or so and they actually make you laugh out loud with some of the characters antics.

I just came back from Salem MA a few weeks ago and picked up the Lace Reader, the author was signing the books. I am going to start it when I get home from work tonight- after voting.

Keep up the good suggestions, and kudos to the great thread.:woohoo:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! :scared1:

I ran out of books to read and i can't go to the library until this weekend :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

I just picked up the sample of this book on my Kindle app...I think I'll have to purchase it ($9.99, not too bad for a book, I guess, and it saves me a trip to the library/book store). It's intriguing. I think it will definitely hold my attention.

I finished reading the compoud it was really good but kinda creepy

Spoiler The parents where raising little kids to eat them if they ran out of food and the dad wnated to make clones to eat if they ran out of food
