We are planning our 4th trip to WDW in 2014 (8 or 9 nights in October) and would like to venture out to Universal Studios. I have been to US in California never Florida. I can see that Orlando US is HUGE. I am planning on only 1 day and not spending the night. We would like to go to both parks but I already know we won't be close to experiencing everything. We won't have a car so I am guessing cab. Any tips or strategies would be appreciated.

I tried one day at the beginning of my WDW trip last. On Memorial Day we were able to do as much as needed in Islands of Adventure. Wizarding World of Harry Potter warranted all the hype. It was amazing. We didn't get to go to Universal at all. I think I would love staying on site and spending three days at the US complex.

We drove down so we had a car.

Ok after looking intoit we would love to start the trip off with 2 nights and 2 days at5 Universal then heading over to WDW...but how can we do that with the transportation? We don't rent a car and usually use magical express.

The guys out front can easily get you a car, they usually have cars for hire waiting on site or can call one for you. It's about $50 for the trip to disney

since your trip is about 2 years away, things will have changed in the parks by then, from what it is now.

new rides are planned for the parks which will give us a new touring way to use.

the only basic things that will be valid 2 years from now like it is presently is to be at the parks early before they open.

When the new hotel is finished, probably by the time you do make your UO trip, maybe transportation from the airport to the darkside would be created.

right now, the only transportation that is used regularly from the darkside to the motherland resorts are private car service, taxis, the mears shuttle and dreams unlimited transportation.
the last two don't allow luggage though on the shuttles.

listen to the great advice macraven has!

I will add - it is so worth it, do your homework when time is near. We went over spring break, stayed onsite for the pass, and had an awesome time. Went with my 70+yr old mom, she loved Harry Potter areas, and Spiderman - but again, research it all, its an amazing experience, and well worth the time you put in to it!

We did one day at IoA before going to WDW. It was amazing!! Next trip, I will do 2 nights at a nice but affordable hotel and do IoA and US for 2 days. Then we will go to WDW.

We went the first week of Dec (3 weeks ago) and there were no lines. We got there at park opening and walked on every ride. The second time we did Forbidden Journey (Harry Potter) we rode single rider and walked on again. We were done with all the big rides (all of WWoHP, as well as Hulk, Dr. Doom and Spiderman) by noon and left by 1 PM. Perfect park day.

The advice is the same as for every park. Get there early and do Ollivander's first, then FJ, then everything else.
