a couple new camera rumors...

I also came across a new Canon.... 450D to replace the 400D (aka XTi)

Canon 450D
- 10,1 megapixel 1.6x crop sensor
- Digic III processor
- 14 bit RAW
- sRAW format
- 2,5 inch LCD screen
- Live View
- Improved autofocus
- 3 to 5 fps
- Dust removal system

aka: a poor mans (yeah right) 40D.

Can't find to much about the Nikon D60. Similar to the D40x but most likely with the D300 sensor and a few other features like live view, anti-dust thingy, and a few other things. Probably also without a focus motor. Rumors seem to keep saying this is the way for Nikon's entry level dSLR's. There are also rumors about a new Nikkor 16-85mm VR lens.

I'd love to see the D60(but with the focus motor). I have a D50 that I like a lot. My 18y.o DD wants one now. The D80 is a bit pricey for me right now- otherwise I would have bought one for me and given her my D50. I have some older(1980's) Nikon lenses so the D40/D40x are out. She graduates in June. Grad present?

The D80 has been around longer than the D40/D40x and would be due for replacement under the schedule Nikon has been following. Seems odd that they would decide to replace the D40 first. I know people around here don't like it due to the focus motor issue, but I thought sales of those models had been pretty strong.

I will likely replace my D70 this year and I don't think I can justify an expense as large as the D300, so I was hoping for a D80 replacement with the new sensor. I'm not sure if a model along the lines of a souped up D40 would be enough for me. I'd have previously thought the lack of a focus motor would be a deal breaker, but now I'm not so sure. I recently bought the Tamron 28-75 f 2.8, which I believe has an internal focusing motor. I'm also looking at the Tokina 12-24, and that has it as well. I haven't had my 50mm lens on the camera since I got the Tamron, and honestly if I could get usable ISO 1600 on a new body it would more than make up for the loss of a stop on the 50mm. I might be more concerned about the lack of a top lcd and other features the D40 is missing if they don't put them into a new model.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what they come out with.

I'd love to see Nikon replace the D40/D40x with a similar camera with the focus motor replaced.

Canon recently decided to announce the new Rebel on the same date that Pentax has picked for a while to announce their new cameras - trying to distract the news folks.

From what I've read, the K200D (which apparently has had images leaked) will likely look and feel like a K100D, but with a grip more like the K10D, and with the K10D's sensor and a few other upgrades (hopefully a bigger buffer for one!) The K20D is the one that everyone's really chomping at the bit to find out about. What is pretty well assumed is that it'll be 14 mp with a non-Sony sensor and is aiming at or above anything the 40D or D300 can do. Probably with live view - one rumor is that you may even be able to review photos via the viewfinder, without having to take your eye away to look at the LCD!
