A commercial you see all the time for a product you will never buy

Sometimes I watch ME TV, and get the usual ads for reverse mortgages and walk-in bathtubs. Is that what we have to look forward to?

OMG, same! I also watch Nick late at night for more Friends reruns. They run commercials OBVIOUSLY geared towards children.

I dont even know how old I am anymore.

When do the advertisers think 40 something moms are watching TV nowadays? I never see ads targeted to my own age group.

It’s a service, not a product, but I constantly hear a lawyer jingle that ends with “just call Jed!” I end up hearing it in my head at random times during the day. If I’m ever in need of a lawyer for ANY reason, I will not be calling Jed.

One, in particular, is just pervasive. Jimmy Dean sausage. I have never in my life eaten or purchased any Jimmy Dean product and never intend to. Yet, I hear this commercial numerous times a day, on different channels. What is it with this company? No, I won't be buying your roll of meat, thanks.

My hat is off to a guy who is still making money 10 years after he died and 26 years after he sold his company.
While my first choice would be an Egg McMuffin, second choice Schwans McMuffin, I had one of his breakfast sandwiches this morning. VERY good. Give them a try.

The thing people need to remember that on the local stations, ads really don't cost all that much, so you'll get a heavy dose of local lawyers, shops, and in general, a bunch of low budget, badly produced ads. Sorry Nav.

For example, this guy is prevalent in the Toronto area:
521557

And with cable channels, some of them can have cheap advertising rates because they really don't have much reach in the target demos. So you can get loads of commercials for products that you are likely to never buy.

Back on topic. It's not one commercial, but a series of commercials where I'll say that I won't buy products for. In part because the products are a gimmicky version of something that already exists. But mostly, it's because I don't like this guy:
521561

I'm glad you liked it. I have never had any "mcmuffin" type of breakfast sandwich. Not my thing. I like sausage and eggs and english muggins, but separately. I also dislike traditional "breakfast sausage." We eat Portuguese or Italian sausage at breakfast and I'll only eat real sausage links with casing at a restaurant breakfast.

All of the car insurance ads lately seemed geared to those in grade school who clearly don't have a license or drive.....LOL. The endless commercials for prescription drugs is just annoying. Clearly a doctor is the only one who can prescribe them and then to describe all of those technical medical concerns seems like a total waste of time. Then there are the endless 1-800-sue-them commercials from lawyers trying to make a fast buck.

The only commercials I see now are on YouTube when watching the Dis. They’re political now or trailers. I’m not planning to go to the movie theatre anytime soon. And the politicians aren’t selling anything. Before we got this close to election, I saw a lot of car ads. I’m not in the market for a new car, so nothing to buy there either.

I’m pretty much reading a lot of books now. And I just got on a Shakespeare kick lately. My first Arden book is coming this week. Really, with the pandemic going on, my purchases aren’t exciting.

For me it’s for a lawyer who’s ad is one call that’s all. Now he said kids saying that. While the kids are cute I sure wouldn’t pick a lawyer who had kids doing his ads. Some laughed through there part there are just some things kids shouldn’t be in ads for. Just my thought

Thought of another one!

It's a new commercial, but every time I hear it I cringe. Cannot.Stand.It. And although it is popular, Alexa isn't for me. I buy tons of stuff on Amazon, but not this.

I don't particularly mind that one, but I don't really get it.

I was going to ask whether your issue was with Jimmy Dean or breakfast sausage in general?

I'm not a big fan of breakfast sausage either, but Jimmy Dean (and his sausage) reminds me of my grandmother. Jimmy Dean used to have a chain of breakfast restaurants (similar to Bob Evans). One time, in the early 1980s, we were eating at one with my family and my grandmother when who should walk into the restaurant except Jimmy Dean himself? He went around to tables thanking people for coming, handing out carnations and signing autographs. For anybody who doesn't know, he was also a music and TV star in the 50s and 60s. (Jim Henson and the muppets got their first national exposure on his show.) Anyway, my always-grumpy grandma went totally 'fan girl' on him. He kissed her on the cheek and I swear she almost swooned. She *definitely* giggled! So, whenever I see anything about Jimmy Dean (even his sausage), I think of my grandma and that day.
