A/C on Disney Buses

Air doesn't have to be below freezing to start the hypothermic process, and a moderate drop in temp can, it's that simple.

Not wearing a coat in the winter or riding on a cold bus doesn't cause the sickness, but it can be a contributing factor. Your immune system doesn't get shut on and off like a switch, it can be weakened. Older people or those not in great health will see these effects sooner than others.

Of course Air Conditioning makes you sick...and so does going outside with wet hair...and if you eat watermelon seeds, a watermelon will grow in your tummy.

yes, that was how it was supposed to sound :p

When you read Trip Reports on the part of european first timers, you'll often read things like "The americans are crazy, they set their A/C too low, it's colder in their buses/buildings than in my deep freeze"

it's part of some of the misconceptions that people have. But it's also true that many of us, europeans, do catch colds, or even worse, because of the A/C.

I guess that spending a full week in bed with a fever because you caught a nasty cold on a bus does qualify as "dangerously low", and you'd be amazed at how many people actually fall ill because they're not used to A/C.

Never heard of catching a cold (nor running fever with one) from an air conditioned bus - that's an old wives tale - must have a 'cold virus' to catch a cold!!!

The buses have to run on the cold side (usually) because the driver is up there where the door is constantly being opened and closed and 'hot' people are getting on. He's working, and would be hot if the bus were 75* constantly. I would rather it be on the cold side than hot as some of the buses are at times.

Also, as some have pointed out, going from 90-95* + in the summer to the chill of AC 'anywhere' is going to make you feel cold.

I believe the old idea of 72° being an ideal temperature is based on someone who is fully clothed (meaning pants, not shorts). Obviously, when you're dressed for eight hours of Disney summer sun, you're going to be dressed lighter, and so 72° might feel uncomfortably cold despite being "ideal." Even more so for a guest who is also wet.

Of course, the idea of 72° as being perfect is subject to debate, largely based on what one is accustomed to. Some people might prefer 76°, for example, and 72° would be too chilly, especially in shorts. On the flip side, those who enjoy the cooler weather might thrive on 65° and wish it was cooler than 72°.

Of course if they set the A/C to an ideal temperature when the bus is full, once the people get off that bus if it stands for a few minutes, that temp is going to drop without all the heat generating bodies in there. And if it is adjusted when empty, the same will be true in reverse. I guess there must be times when we just get onto a bus and this has happened.

In my very limited experience, I can remember being cold in the mornings when there were still open seats on the way to the park, then being perfectly comfortable on the way back to the resort as guests pack busses to capacity. After the first few stops around the resort, the temp dropped again.

So I believe you're right. I think the bus A/C is set for a full load.

I usually freeze when I get on the bus after sundown, but it is most likely because I am tired. During the afternoon, I think the buses feel great!!

Haha! My dad would never let me go to sleep with wet hair because I would "get sick."

It seems that no matter how much evidence exists to the contrary, people will continue to believe things like that.

No idea what the average temp is. I love how this was made a thread though- the buses ARE super cold, I just thought I was the only one who kind of noticed or cared:confused3

Not going to lie, I thought the buses were set to ARCTIC when I was there in October. And, I'm not from Europe (but I am from Canada).

Make sure you don't sit under the vent or you will spend your ride shivering.
