So, I am very new to this, in fact I have never been on a message board before. So, if I make a mistake, please understand, I am learning. I am lucky enough to have a husband who is an IT director to help me out if I need it, so here it goes. I have been reading about many of your vacations, plans, and tips for a while now, but decided maybe now is the time to participate. My kids are getting ready to go back to school in 13 days and I know myself well enough to know that I am going to be lonely and this will be a perfect place for me to go mid-day when I am missing them. So, about my family. Like most moms, they are my life (though I could do without some of the teenage “moments”). My husband was my high school sweetheart since 10th grade. We got married 2 weeks to the day after I graduated from high school. We celebrated our 15th anniversary this summer and laughed about how many people who were at our wedding would have guessed that we would have made it to that milestone. But We knew, when you are lucky enough to meet a guy as great as he is, you have to snatch him up or someone else will. So, we have been together over 17 years, married just over 15. We have 3 beautiful daughters; they are 13, 9 and 6. They all enjoy Disney, some more then others, but none nearly as much as me. It wasn’t love at first for me and the mouse, but it is for sure now. I always enjoyed Disney World, but it was about the rides, not the experience like it is now. I’ll tell you a bit about why I am so taken by Mickey now. I had a nice childhood, we visited Disney a handful of times. Like I said, the rides were fun, but something was always missing for me. I am an only child, and was raised by my grandparents. They are wonderful people and I was (am) so lucky to have them, but I would see families wearing matching t-shirts, having fun, making memories, and even though I know how fortunate I was, it was something that always bothered me. So, I made my own family and I guess in some ways when we go to Disney, it is like I am reliving those days the way I wish they had been. (By the way still with my grandma and grandpa, they come on every trip with us!) We wear matching t-shirts (though not my 13 year old’s favorite part, but hubby reminds her why mom is the way she is and she wears them---but you can’t make her like it!) We do traditions that I don’t like to budge on, and I am a sucker for just about any souvenirs--- I am just like a kid down there and that is why my husband, though he’d love a more relaxing vacation, takes me there every other year because he knows it makes me happy in a really special way. He’s giving me something that for so many years I wanted, and now I am lucky enough to have. So, about our trips. Truth is we really can’t afford to go this year. But you can’t put a price on the memories you get with your kids in Disney so we saved what we could and for the rest, well, thank you Disney Visa! If we waited till we could afford it I can’t image how old our kids would be before we would go. We have been going down every other year since 1997
(DD13’s 3rd b-day). The last several years have been for Thanksgiving as is this year’s trip. We stay cheap, but always on property. We only look for a bed and a shower, and the kids like a pool, but mostly like to stay cheap so we can splurge a bit in other places. Our first visit we stayed at Shades Of Green, which we enjoyed but was a bit quiet for me. Since then we have stayed at all the All Stars, this time we are at Sports. We were booked at POP, but last week switched to sports to get the code discount and saved $1000 for the two rooms!!!! I like the values, is that weird??? I love seeing families in matching t-shirts, kids with the remains of a Mickey ice cream on their face—to me that is a perfect place to stay. If I ever won the lottery I would like to stay one night at each resort, but in the end I bet I’d end up at a value, (but I’d be frivolous and say forget the code and stay at Movies!) Another weird thing about me. I cry at EVERY Disney commercial EVERY time it is on!!! I watch every show about Disney every time I can and yes, I cry. I love planning our trips, so I am in my glory right now. So, I’d love to chat with all of you. There is so much more I’d like to say but this is going to be so long no one will read it. So, I will stop for now, but I’d love to hear your favorites and share mine. I have a favorite memory for each kid that proves that Disney is worth the money. So, that’s me. I am anxious to see if this goes through. So, I will post it now and hope to hear from someone soon!!!

91 Days Till We Drive to Disney World!!!!

Hi and welcome!!!:goodvibes I'm new to the board too. Good to always hear about somebody's love of Disney and this is certainly the right place for that! My family too wears the matching shirts at Disney. :thumbsup2 Anways, just wanted to say welcome and can't wait to hear more about your plans for your upcoming trip!

Yeah, thanks for writing back. I have no "Disney Nut" friends (some have gone, some want to, but none are like me), so it will be nice to have people to talk with that understand loving Disney. So, thanks for writing back, type with you soon...

Thanks. Looks like we will be the same time, also with the grandparents. I hope my kids love going with their grandparents so much and remember it fondly so when my husband and I are the grandparents we get to go with the grandkids!!! Disney is great as a kid, even better as the mom, I can't impage how great it will be as a grandma (give me 10 years or so!!!)

:welcome: from one Disney fan to another. I also love Disney too. I have a lot of childhood memories and nostalga wrapped up in Disney too. I love it as a child, but once we took our children it was like getting to see it all over again through their eyes - makes me cry just thinking about the first time I walked into Magic Kingdom with my children and I saw the look on their faces when they saw the castle, yes it was magical.

We will be there December 12 - 21 and I can hardly wait!

Hello and welcome to the DIS.

You will find this a great place to be when you have moments of "no kids" .

I married my high school sweetheart as well. I was in the 10th grade and she was in the 9th. We have never been apart since. That is 26 1/2 years. Married for 19 of those years. Now we have two daughters. Oldest is 13 and youngest is 10. I am having teen moments as well.

We go to WDW every other year as well. Wife does not share the fanaticism for WDW that I have but she does love the place. She is just not as crazy for it as I am.

Have fun on your trip!!

Do you live in Rochester or in one of the towns around Rochester? We live in Hamlin. :wave2:

WELCOME TO THE DIS BOARDS!

You will come across many many people who love Disney and all it has to offer and hear lots of stories from those of us who will do absolutely anything to make sure you get in that trip. I have many friends who often ask, Going to Disney again? Why?... well then they get an earful on why and want help to make their own plans. My family and friends understand our addiction to Disney but not many have jumped on the bandwagon ... yet. Its pretty bad when my kids teachers hunt us down for Disney tips and the word around the school is not to plan a Disney trip unless you talk to Chris first ... its funny!:rotfl2:

So yes, this is an awesome place to hang out while the kids are in school and makes your anticipation for your trip even better!

We have been DVC members since 1999 and its been a sacrifice doing that but when we looked at the big picture on our trips per year, it made sense to us, while we could NEVER afford to pay the price for a deluxe resort its nice to visit. We have often added days onto our trips and instead of using our points, we have stayed at the Value resorts and our kids love it there ... Pop is my personal favorite, and the kids love all the nostalgia with the other All Star resort, plus they enjoy the food courts too. We have AP's too, so that gives great discounts for the resorts as well!

So welcome again, enjoy your time here ... ask away, there are so many experts on here to help out:thumbsup2

Nice to hear there are others like us out there, and Disney fan(s) as well. While I am going to miss the girls a lot when they are back in school, I can't wait to chat and read about everyone's trip!!! Nice to hear from you...

I know it is great as a kid, but as a mom is something amazing!!! I have 3 top memories of DW, one for each kid. I will have to type them up soon. They make me laugh and cry as I am sure you can relate...

Thanks, and you sound like me. When I am not planning our own trips I often help friends plan theirs (which is ALMOST as fun as planning your own trip.) Some people don't understand why we go back, some know us well enough to know why even if they don't get it. I would love to someday do the DVC. We looked into it once, but it couldn't happen, but maybe someday. I don't ever plan on giving up Disney just cause the kids are out of the house!!! Right now like most parents we are busy getting the girls ready for back to school, but I look forward to picking all of your brains next week when they are in school. Nice to meet you...

Welcome!!! I have only been a member here for a couple of weeks and gotta tell ya, it's a great place. :goodvibes Everyone is very friendly.

I am in the Pocono Mountains of PA and making the trip to Disney in January with my DH (he's never been there :scared1: ) and my DD, she is going to be 18 next week and it will be her 5th time.

No doubt about it, you came to the right place!:cool1: Only my BFF understands what I call my Disney Driver. That part of me that drives me to make plans to visit the most magical place on earth. She had never been, so last year I took her for her 60th birthday. Like two little kids, we played for two weeks. I got us a ride in the front of the monorail, the front car on Expedition Everest, the last car on Thunder Mountain railroad. We found the key under the mat at Muppet Vision 3-D, got to ride middle top row of Soarin' and got dream fast passes twice. She's hooked.:cheer2: I'm visiting solo the end of September, just me and my camera for 4 days. Then in February I'm gong with my BFF again. I just bought my airline tickets today. Round trip NON STOP DIRECT Seattle to Orlando for under $400 each. Now that's magical!:banana:So welcome to this wonderful place where we share the magic with others who understand the tears of sentiment and joy.:grouphug:
