A bit disappointed DH is a numbers guy

I appreciate the detail in the last post. I believe that one must acknowledge the lost investment opportunity. For me, a financially conservative little ole lady of 59, the loss involves CD interest, as that is how I would be using most of my excess money. Making any realistic assumptions about trip costs, resale values, rental of points, DVC is an excellent use of my money for the next 12 years at least. When I am 71, I will consider selling the points if I need the money; otherwise, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.

It is not about the numbers. Looking at it that way wont ever really add up.

I am very much considering buying, however its not the money issue that I want to take advantage of.

I love the idea of taking a vacation with my extended family every year. I know that if I buy this I could easily make that happen.

Because I see the value in having us all be under one roof, and being on Disney Property I see there is nowhere else I could make that scenario happen.

Ask your husband to look up what a nice Disney hotel cost 30 years ago and compare it to today.

THAT is what you are buying, a hedge against rooms costing $1000 a night in the future.

You can't look at the deal in terms of today's market; that's always going to be somewhere around breakeven, maybe a bit better.

If one is only looking to save a buck, DVC will never make financial sense. The DVC program is tailored more to folks who stay at WDW deluxe resorts most every year and intend to do so for the foreseeable future, There is way more flexibility in staying at non-DVC resorts, but you will end up saving $$$ in the long run with DVC if your vacation habits remain the same. Your DH needs to decide if he wants to spend every vacation year at WDW at a resort that doesn't offer daily housekeeping and requires an annual financial commitment (dues) or whether he would rather vacation every few years at a WDW deluxe resort without the associated financial obligation.

And never consider any timeshare as an investment, only a vacation opportunity. If you end up making money, fine but don't expect to do so.

Good luck!
