A big hello from Massachusetts

Hello Eveyone,
I'm new to the boards and planning my very first Disney vacation. I have to admit I am both excited and overwhelmed at the same time. I've been putting Disney off for a long time because of finances, but seeing that disney has some great offers for 07-08 with the magic your way packages I'm just going to go for it! My biggest challenge is keeping travel affordable. Any tips on booking low cost airfare/amtrack? Also is August a good time to see disney (crowds and weather wise) My daughter is school age so I don't have many options for during the school year and I hear school vacation weeks are mobbed. Well, thanks in advanced for any and all tips. CAN'T WAIT TO MEET THE MOUSE GO RED SOX!

Hello!! August is HOT and humid...but crowds were not too bad. My husband and I went this year for the first time in the Summer and we were drenched in sweat by the end of the day and we LIVE in Florida.... We are from Upstate NY originally and it was pretty hot to us.
Lines for rides ranged from 90 minutes for Peter Pan to 5 minutes for Stitch's Great Escape...it all depends on what you want to do and see.

Hi & welcome to the boards... Its great that you are planning a trip... by being on these boards you will be reading alot of tips...

My first suggestion is plan for late August 2008... a couple of reasons, July is just as hot as August & planning at the end of August becomes value season.. July is a very popular month for families that cant travel year round. If your daughter goes back to school in Sept it will work out well.... Also, its not out yet but the sept that just passed anyone that traveled to the world had got a heads up about free dining for 2008 w/ the bounce back program; if you wait until next year to book (2007 free dining came out in April) you might also be able to get free dining as well!

Welcome!!! We are from MA also. Checkout Southwest from Providence. Very convenient to get to and parking is reasonable. August is hot but it is less crowded than July and not as many tour groups. We also found a great discount on the room rate this past August.

Hi there, Danvers , Mass. checking in here. We have been to WDW 3 out of our 4 trips during Aug. This year we were there Aug. 15-24, and yes, it is hot, but not that much hotter than it is here. This last trip, my DW, who is afraid to fly (but will if there is no alternate means of transportation !) took Amtrak to Kissimmee (the next stop after Orlando, and much less crowded ). She took our DD (10) along for company, and she didn't care for it. Of course, the fact that she has motion sickness and had no meds for it might contribute to that. She said " Dad, next time I'll fly with you and big brother (15)". It was pretty expensive due to the fact that they reserved a small sleeper room. But people had told us that was the way to go, otherwise you end up in a seat for 20-25 hours, which is how long the train ride is ! My DS and I purchased our airline tickets from Jetblue in either Feb. or March, and we paid $99 each way, which is pretty good. We like Aug. cause the crowds are manageable (it's still crowded, tho !), and we don't want to take the kids out of school. If you need any other info, feel free to PM me, or just ask on the boards. from August 15 - 21 and it was hot! I am from South Texas which I thought was hot, but after being in Florida for a week it felt like fall when I got home. We had great rates on rooms at POP and if we went back to the parks in the evening, the lines were not terrible. Plus it was the week before school started back for us and I didn't have to worry about pulling kids out of school. I did that last December and there was a LOT of catching up to do (and he was only in first grade). I've been in the fall , winter and summer and I prefer the fall (of course that was before I had kids and could go whenever). If you do go during the summer and there is P&PP, you have to go to that. It made our trip! Have fun planning! You will learn so much from the great people here on disboards. They're just brilliant!

Hi and welcome. not sure what part of mass your from but i'm from the south coast fall river area. I find southwest airlines to be a big money saver so i fly out of tf green airport,but jet blue is also pretty good if your up north and fly out of logan GO SOX!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the great tips! Being new to the boards I guess I'm bit slow with the abbrievated lingo.LOL If someone could give me a few descriptions that would be great. Like what P&PP is and when I see DD, DW ect. Sorry if this seems silly,but I'm not much for chatting online other than the basics
