I recently made a reservation for April 2007 using all of my 2007 points and borrowing some of my 2008 points. Today, I had to call MS and change the dates by a few days. They were able to do this and the new reservation used 27 fewer points than the original. I noticed on the DVC website that the 27 points were put back in my 2007 use year. I thought they'd put the points into my 2008 use year. Does it matter? If I want to use them in 2008, I can just bank them when the times comes, right?

Thanks!

MS was correct, once points are borrowed, or banked for that matter, they MUST remain in the 'new' UY.

So just bank the 2007 points, before the deadline and those 27 points will be available in 2008.

Have a great trip.

The borrowed 2008 points cannot be put back into your '08 Use Year. I expect MS did the right thing and freed up native '07 Use Year points when you made the reservation change. Those native '07 points can be banked into your '08 Use Year. If for some reason they freed up some of the '08 points that you borrowed into '07, then those points cannot be banked. You should be able to verify this online by looking at how many '07 points it says you have left and how many you can bank. If it says you have 27 points left in your '07 Use Year but none of them can be banked, then they freed up borrowed points. If it says you can bank those 27 points, then you should be OK.

As I said, MS usually handles things the right way but if that did not happen for some reason, you could call and have this corrected.

Thanks for the replies. I just checked my account and it says that the 27 points are in '07 use year, which I now understand is the correct way to do it. But it also says I have no points available to bank in my '07 use year. I think I will call MS and ask about that. I don't want to lose those 27 points! Thanks again for your help.

Yes, double check to make sure those 27 points aren't the ones that were borrowed.

Once you borrowed 2008 points they went into your 2007 use year and are no longer classified any way at all as 2008 points. They are classified as 2007 points with a status of borrowed.

So they would show as being in your 2007 UY, but if their status is 'borrowed' then they are not bankable.

If indeed MS let the borrowed points be the ones in the account, have them reallocate so the borrowed points are used for the reservation, and your regular 2007 allocation points are the ones to remain in the account.

I had posted a reply, but now I'm not sure my info was correct, so thought it best to delete it rather than risk confusing anyone!

To the OP: let us know what MS says.

Thanks!

Thanks, everyone. I will call MS tomorrow and I'll post their answer.

I had a silmiliar situation. Had 113 points put back into Sept 2006 use year. On my dvc points page it says Total Vacation Points Remaining 113
Total Vacation Points Available to Bank 0
Total Vacation Points Available to Borrow 113
I was thinking that the vacations points are not available to bank yet because it's not Sept 2006 yet. I hope this is right.

You made a ressie for arrival after 9/1/2006 and cancelled it?

If so, yes they will be available to bank once you get into that UY...assuming they weren't banked forward from 2005, that is.

Yes it was for December 2006. Thanks for reassuring me. The lady at MS worked with me and put my points back into 2006 use year and also banked 5 points for me(points I never banked)from 2005 use year then used them for the December trip. I had to use my 140 borrowed points toward the trip as said because borrowed points can't be put back. The lady was very friendly and helped me understand everything, so I thought. I got a points activity statement from MS that says I only have 108 points but online it says I have 113. 5 points difference.

OP here. I spoke to MS yesterday. My acct shows 27 pts in '07 UY, but 0 available to bank. This is just because the '07 UY hasn't begun yet. My UY is March, so beginning on 03/01/07, I will be able to bank those 27 points.

I suspected that was the answer you would get. Thanks for reporting back!

Diane, that has as much weight as knowing the lottery numbers AFTER the drawing. As much as I respect you (and I REALLY do!), knowing the answer AFTER it has been given, isn't that impressive!

:teeth:

FWIW, That's the answer I was thinking of too! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the update. Being able to view this info online is still relatively new so while I also thought that might be the case I didn't want to assume. Thanks for filling us in. Now I know how to interpret that info in my own contract info.
