I have a very bad case of addonitis. For the past 2 years we have had to transfer in points into our account because of the numerous times we are travelling. I think it makes good sense to add on. But, we would rather purchase with cash, rather than having to finance. And we really can't afford that number of points with cash.

Help talk me out of the desire to add on. PLEASE :)

My opinion, and I don't know how many points you have- I am going through points quicker than I can borrow them too- HATE the MF's!
I would rent the extra points- doesn't lock you in to MF's forever in case your plans change over the next few years-
I have a friend that has points- maybe she will transfer into my account and I will pay her fees-I know she is planning a little break.
I myself may(dare I say) try a moderate or value with free dining at some point- take advantage of a really awesome special. You can always rent points- once you buy, you are pretty much locked in to the MF's for length of contract. I feel it to though- Wouldn't ot be awesome to own......x# of points?

I would have to say I agree with the pp, not to lock yourself into additional MF's. I know that many people finance and are very happy with that decision, however it appears you are reluctant to add on without paying cash and I think if you have strong gut feeling about that you should stick to it. Transferring points seems to be working out for you so I would try and do that until you are in a better position to add on with cash.

Keep checking the reputable re-sale sites, you never know when a smaller contract with your UY may come up that might work into your budget. That might help to even things out a bit.

Good Luck. :)

Thank you both for your replies. That is exactly what I needed to read this evening!!!

I might get beaten for this response on here... but....

We have a trip planned for BCV/BLT that will use all our points for this UY and next UY (we have a Dec UY). We really like the space and going to a value or a moderate doesn't really appeal to use, so we have talked about renting a week in a 2br at Bonnet Creek.

We don't usually leave Disney property on vacation, but a week at BC would allow us to rent a car (we use ME) and visit some areas of Orlando/beach that we normally don't visit.

Trust your gut - don't get yourself in over your head. If you can't afford it, don't. DVC is not going anywhere. I agree with renting needed points and thus avoiding increased MFs. That being said, I assume you have looked into resales (much cheaper than direct)?

i hate the MFs as well . i mean i understand them but thats what keeps me from adding on more and more and more and more and............;)
