A 9 & 11 year old in a stroller?

Let's give the OP the benefit of the doubt that her kids won't grow up like that. I gave in to my kids all the time during vacations and they're really great kids now at their older age. I just didn't give in once we got home.

the OP first post stated nothing about her kids being little mamby pamby's who at an older age healthy was riding in a stroller. in fact she was stating about another poster on a different board,etc. and also agreed a kid of an older age,healthy doesn't belong in a stroller.


The stroller thing is just an example. How many times do we encounter kids having a fit and the parent going oh ok, I just don't want to keep hearing you whine? more often times then not, that kid will keep doing it because it worked for them. And I'm not talking about on vacation, but in the "real world".

My parenting habits don't stop if I am on vacation, my DD12 doesn't get to beg and whine until I give in,nor did she years before that.

My daughter is a very thin 8 year old. But will I bring my stroller to Disney?? Yes I will. I don't plan on listening to her complain the whole time. Personally I could careless who is in a stroller. I seen alot more strange people and situations than older kids in strollers.

When I brought my best friend and his family to WDW in 07, he and his wife complained about walking. I guess I should've just pushed them in a double stroller.

True. You might give in to things like dessert and soda while on vacation that you wouldn't normally at home, but letting your older child ride in a stroller when there is nothing physically prohibiting them from walking is, IMHO, not the same.

We are locals, when we go to Disney it is hardly ever from open to close, and yet my friend's 8 1/2 year old (who does have gluten, dairy, and soy allergies, btw) still complains enough that my friend lets him ride in the stroller while the 6 and 3 year olds walk. That would absolutely not fly with me if it were my decision. Last time I did push him for her for a while because she was exhausted from pushing him, but never again. If I don't agree to take a turn pushing him she just might make him get up and walk.

I think my parents donated my stroller when I started walk. Then again I was one of those kids who hated being strapped down and not being able to walk around like adults. No way and no how would I be caught in a stroller at age 9+ Maybe if her kids get that tired Its time for a break and not a stroller ride?

Dear DISers,

I am a long time lurker, but am finally going to make my FIRST TRIP to Disney World, so I have come out of hiding to ask your sage advice! It has been my dream for many, many years to take my precious children to WDW. But as many of you know, life has a way of delaying our dreams. I lost jobs along the way, had to move into a smaller home, buy an older car....You know the drill. But after years of scrimping and saving, cutting coupons and eating all my meals at home, I am only two weeks away from making my dream a reality and being able to see the look of joy on my DS's and DD's faces when they see the WDW sign! How I have longed for this day!

But I am uncertain about how much they will be able to do in this heat, as we are not accustomed to such high temperatures and humidity. I don't want to push them too hard. I have heard the rental double strollers at WDW are quite sturdy and wondered if it might be a good idea to use one to make their time at the parks a little easier and more enjoyable. What do you experienced WDW moms think? BTW, my DS is 37 and my DD is 33.

I think she was just making a point. It seems like nowadays EVERYBODY's kid has some kind of condition. Autism, Autism spectrum, Sensory disorders, add, adhd, ESD. It's the new trend to have your kid diagnosed when they can't sit still in a restaurant or likes to misbehave. And everybody has a special diet. Allergies, lactose intolerant, gluten free. The world has just changed in the last 15 years. And everybody wants a GAC at Disney. I cannot imagine asking Disney to give a card meant for DISABLED PEOPLE for my kid that can't sit still for 10 minutes. Really? Guest assistance card for ADHD now? But that's a whole other post in and of itself.

Don't forget ODD-Oppositional Defiance Disorder. So basically, someone raises a kid who always says 'no' and doesn't work to change that, so they slap a medical label on it to compensate?

(I don't mean to say that disorders like autism are invalid, but some of the more obscure and growing ones seem...silly.)

I think it's ridiculous. Most 11 year olds are significantly taller than me...heck, a lot of seven year olds are taller than me. I haven't been in a stroller since I was 3 years old, even though I've been a tiny little thing all of my life, as well as having a majorly deformed spine. Suck it up and deal!! That goes for the kids as well as the parents.

No, we didn't do strollers at 8 1/2 and 11. That's simply lazy. Lazy on behalf of the parents who allow it and teaches the children to be lazy. What a society we've become. We've grown soft.

The last time we used a stroller was when my youngest DS was 4. The next trip, when he was almost 6, I brought it again, against my DH's wishes. Guess what? We didn't use it the entire trip. (yes, DH was right.) Going without a stroller was so liberating!! It was a great trip!! No having to find the stroller after a ride, or covering it when it rained, or folding it up on the bus....

I agree with you. Unless there is some health issue involved there is no reason a 9 and 11 YO can't walk around WDW.

Heck, I paid to take them to Disney...they should push ME around all day.

I have been seeing like 9 year olds in carriages in Costco and I cannot help but feeling like I want to slap their parents first for letting the kid sit in a carriage look like Baby Huey and second for not making the kid step up to the plate. For crying out loud there are some kids who cannot walk for whatever reason.....the ones that can should be happy they have functioning legs and USE THEM>

I going out on a limb here and say anyone old enough to know who Baby Huey even is, wasn't pushing their kids around in strollers when their kids were over the age of 2 or 3, let alone 9!

Yep that's him! My mother used to tell me not to baby my kids she hated to see some "BABY HUEY" walking around that is why I know. My kids know too.
