So how do you all keep the little rascal happy for 9 hours. This will be her first trip on a plane and she is really looking forward to it

For my 2 year old Im thinking 3 beakers of brandy and half a cup of Medised :D Only kidding!

Ive taken both ours at young ages. DD was 11 months on her first trip, then again at 2,3 and this year 4. DS had his first trip at 9 months and will be 2 when we go in December.

Our DD has ALWAYS been easy to entertain and a selection of the pocket money toys from ELC keeps her busy for ages. Last year she was happy to watch the film (Jungle book 2) and I kept plenty of little snacks handy too.

My son, however is a different kettle of fish and will be a nightmare to keep amused for 9 hours. He isnt keen on toys, doesnt eat sweets and wont watch TV for more than 30 seconds. His only interest is "Lift The Flap" books, so I have supply of those. He is also partial to Wotsits, so 20 bags of those ;) and apart from that I dont know!

Some things Ive done in the past are wrapping up small toys and making a "lucky dip" bag. Let them choose a comic in the Duty Free for on the plane. Even though I dont allow things like Lunchables or sweets at home, I do take this sort of thing on a flight, as the "treat" factor makes them go down a storm. Take a good supply of their fave foods, drinks and their comforter (if they have one). Allow them all the stuff you dont at home (9 hours of junk wont kill them in my opinion!) and if all else fails, buckle up your child next to a stranger and go and watch the movie channel :D.

At 21/2, our DD wasn't too bad on the plane. She watched a movie, ate a lot, listened to stories and mostly sprawled all over us. She did get very tired which made for whining before she went to sleep but SHE DID SLEEP and yours will too. Its not as bad as you think, really. This time around, we have CD walkmans for our kids with their favourite stories on CD. This should keep them calm for a while.

Hiya,

My little girl was great on the plane. She was obsessed with the fact she was on the plane. To be honest you are so busy entertaining the time flew by. We didnt really notice the time and if she was being naughty it didnt really bother us to much, as we never had time to clock watch.

The things we did was, take sweets, drawing, toys, drinks and the seatback TV. Also we took Casey in Warner Bros and let her choose a few toys she wanted play with on the plane and she wasnt allowed to play with it before. We did something new every hour. Also the toilet trips aswell. The dinner that the hostess brings round she was amazed by that watching them working. They would talk to her aswell.

I am sure you will be fine. Children can amaze us. Just take some bits and bobs and get your lo to choose what they want to bring.

Next yr we will be taking Casey who will be 5 and our twin boys who will be just under 2. 9 hours isnt too bad lol.....

Good luck you will have a great time.

Regards
Michelle

Just back with a 3 yr & 2 yr old. They both loved the flight. We had a mini etch a scetch, lots of sticker books, luckily ShreK 2 was playing, chocolate & we let them get up & walk around. The crew were quite happy as long as they were supervised. Its also amazing how many people talk to you when you have got a littlun. Sometimes they are a little strange, but kids find fun in almost anything.

take a bag full of things to do and lots of kiddie snacks.....

although you never know what will entertain your child....
when my son was that age, his favorite thing was taking the hot towel that was handed out before every meal and wiping down ("cleaning") everything in sight.....he started with the window and moved on from there....
every time they handed out a hot towel he did that and it kept him occupied for a good half hour....it cracked us up....

but my best advice to you is make sure you're on a night flight....kids (and everyone else) tend to fall asleep on night flights.....day flights are what i've always referred to as "the flights from hell"....

if you're on a day flight....good luck.....

of course i should add that we have to fly much further than you.....the first leg of our trip is a non-stop 12 hour flight to new york........trust me...that's a really long flight...even for someone of my advanced years....

thanks for all the advice......we have bought everything you all said .........but now I don't think we can carry it all (LOL)
