$99 HP Touchpad

as to the bolded part, when did they post this, was this the day the email with the 25% went out ??? I signed up for notify but did not receive anything about this?
I am not sure when they posted that to their site, I just know when I got the email, I went on the link in the email and it took me there. I got the email when I posted it here. sorry for not responding sooner, I just saw this post...
 
I did not get that email that everyone is talking about with the 6-8 weeks, my email stated 2 weeks :confused3..now that doesn't mean I am not going to get it tomorrow.. just that I have not gotten it yet...
 
We received the dreaded 6-8 week e-mail today as well! :headache:

I think this debacle should send a HUGE message to the industry at large - if you build a product and sell it at a price point that is profitable without being excessive - you will have customers willing to wait 6-8 weeks for a decent product at an incredible price.

I'm not saying all purchases should take 6-8 weeks to receive a product, but this should send a loud and clear signal to the rest of the industry... if you want to build customer loyalty - don't sell good products at bad prices!

It is frustrating - however, I'm willing to sit tight to have a decent tablet at an incredible price!
 
I got the 6-8 week email also. That means early Nov at the latest. That's fine, they'll make great Christmas gifts for our boys. :cool1:

I'm patient. In the end we'll have a cool toy for much less than other tablets.

I got the 6-8 week email, I did NOT get the 2 week email. Hopefully that means you will get yours soon. :) (TP, not email)
 
We have accessories at our local Walmart, but they are full price. He said he would sell me the folio at $30, but that is as low as he would go. I just bought one on ebay and it works great. You can even charge through it on the touchstone. We also have touchstones in our store, but expensive...

Try Amazon. They had the screen cover (the clear plastic thing) for $5.99, and I saw it at Walmart for $16, and other items that seemed cheaper. But I'm not buying anything until I get my Touchpad -- I haven't gotten either the 6-8 week email or the 2 week email, but I know my order is confirmed because I called yesterday to change which card they charge (couldn't live with the constant "pending" hold on my money so I put it on a card I rarely use), and they found my order without any trouble. It'll be a surprise when it comes!

When did you order and beginning numbers? if you don't mind...can you see your order on line...I get order page and then vista when click for details and at the end of order says closed...:scared1:

The problem is that the $99 price point isn't profitable--HP is expected to lose $100 million just to clear out the remaining inventory and dump the product. I think that the screen itself costs more than $100 to manufacture.
 
I obviously have not read this entire thread, but also got the 6-8 week email (I am assuming on the 16GB we ordered). We already received the two 32GB pads, but when I log on to our account, it lists another set of two 32GB. I hope this is just an accident, because I really don't need four 32GB pads and a 16GB pad!!!!! So hopefully, the 6 - 8 week window is for the 16GB... geez, I think I just confused myself LOL!!!

As for accessories, we found charges at our local Wal-Mart, however, as PPs have mentioned, they were not discounted (though they were in the "clearance" section). Tried to talk them into a discount, but it was no go.... bummer!!!

I read somewhere that for 32GB model, it cost HP $318 to produce... not sure about the 16GB. So they are definitely taking a big loss.
 
I'm on the 6-8 weeks notice too. My concern is.... are these "new ones" that they are producing going to be ok or are they just going to be thrown together and we're stuck with junk? :confused3

I'm slightly annoyed because my order went through about 10 hours earlier than yours and I'm on the 6-8 week list. Even having millions of orders, being able to sort by order time is a trivial task. I'm impressed they are trying to fulfill all the orders at a huge loss, of course they got themselves into this situation through their own incompetence.

Did you order the same amount of GBs?

Like I said, I didn't get that email "yet".. doesn't mean I am not going to get it... Your order did go through before mine did. I have no clue why you got that email before I did.. I still have not gotten it. I checked my credit card and they do have pending charges on there again. I started trying to place my order about 2:30pmish on that Saturday, but by the time it actually went through, it wasn't until 8pm.. the site kept crashing and I kept getting the error messages.

It would make sense they would email out the 2 weeks first, then send out the 6-8 week notices. It took them two weeks to figure this all out, I doubt they would send you a second email changing the delivery estimate. At this point the order fulfillment seems to be based on something other than first in first out, which is the annoying part because that was what they announced would happen. To have the plan fall apart already is concerning. In the large picture it doesn't matter, if it shows up even better.
 
loving my 32g sadly hubby was late getting there Sunday and guy in front of him walked out w last 3 16gb thankfully they had 1 32gb left. Really want one for DD for xmas...

he was supposed to be there shortly after i texted him at noon, he strolled in after 2. He had no idea about the hunt. LOL

The email sent and the FAQ spell out what is happening. There are two shipping windows for Small Business purchases, you are either on the list to get them shortly (2 weeks) or probably get them (6 - 8 weeks). Any order update status should be 100% ignored. It is not correct, nor will it ever be correct. The only status that you will get will be when it ships. At that time you will receive an email with tracking number and credit card charges will correctly be applied at that time. You should only call or email them to cancel an order.
