$95 resort fee

Its as wrong as taking pool towels instead of ordering another pack from housekeeping.....thumbsup2 I enjoy my DVC too much to let it get decimated (ok a little extreme) to get abused by persons without a vested interest. I don't trade out, so don't really like folks trading in, but that is legal and if it is legal than go for it, if its not....them I'm tellin...nannanna boo boo

Anyway, looks like RCI has it as well

While you don't trade out, others do, which opens up for others to come to our resorts as well. Also, keep in mind there are a lot of cash guests throughout the resorts that rented directly through CRO and don't have any "connection" with DVC. Actually, other than buying your own property, there are no resorts that won't have either friends/family/cash guests/renters occupying the resort, its just part of the business.

It will be interesting to see if RCI actually does anything to stop the rental and we will likely never know.

Every single day, there are significant numbers of guests at the DVC resorts who are not owners. People staying on DRC cash reservations (inventory owned by Disney). Renters. Folks trading in through RCI. Family, friends and acquaintances of members who are staying on the members' points.

There will never come a day when only DVC members are staying at DVC resorts. And there's no evidence that only non-members abuse the property, or that members automatically take better care of the property than non-members do.

Reminds me of a thread from awhile ago when they were talking about damage to the rooms and some of the delays for housekeeping to get rooms ready. One of the reasons was furninture being moved, etc. There were quite a few owners that commented about how they rearrange the furniture to suit their needs or because they liked the set up better, etc.

I think a case could be made that the frequent guest could cause a lot more wear and tear on a room and resort, because they have grown accustomed to how they like it, or they found this set up worked better for them, or they have learned if they say the "right" thing to housekeeping they can get extra linens or towels or whatever.

Correct, I do not, and I totally realize that others trade in and all the other non-owners that are allowed to enjoy DVC, however if I make a reservation with RCI through a trade out am I allowed to sell it on ebay? I don't think so, either way I did not make the rules but I do abide by them, if someone is blatantly breaking them why not report them. If the ad's stop being posted on ebay then perhaps my good deed was acted upon, if they don't oh well I have done my part to preserve my .000000001% interest.

You are also correct, there is no evidence that I am aware of that non-members are more abusive then members, just a hunch on my part.

I think is seems little extreme to say that RCI trades are destroying DVC and it needs protected. DVC transfers are not supposed to include payment and we all know it happens. It seems like making a mountian out of a mole.
BTW, I am a DVC member and never traded in or out through RCI.

I've read threads with non-member asking about moving furniture around as well. So it's not just the frequent visitor.

Can someone help clarify please.. if a DVC owner has canceled a cruise, and the points go into reservation status, would these points be rentable to a nonmember with a legitamate request for the $95 booking fee?

I've seen this scenario from time to time and thought it could be a win/win for discounted cruise, and sale of unused points, but are there risks with this that I am overlooking?

Thanks.

If you change the name on the reservation that means a $95 fee. So I guess that could be done. But it would be an expensive way to take a cruise.

Thanks, Chuck, for the explanation. Now I understand why this ebay member kept telling me all my chosen weeks were not available. There's a thread on here somewhere showing the sold out room dates at the DVC places, and my choices aren't among them. I was very confused.

As for members vs non-members, I'm guessing that Malaguti meant RCI people not caring who they rented DVC rooms to. I think DVC people themselves are choosier about who they rent to. I've rented 3 times from the same member until she sold and I never wanted to mess up that relationship; so I tipped nicely, paid for extra cleaning days so the room would stay nice, and even took most of my last-day garbage with me to dispose of elsewhere (food that couldn't go on the plane). She was selling to me for $8 a point, so that was very nice :-)

If points are in Reservation Status, they can not be used for a stay in a DVC Villa, they must be used for a stay at a non-DVC Disney resort, Adventures by Disney, cruise, etc. Rarely will someone want to rent such a reservation because of the large number of points required vs. a DVC Villa stay. But in that scenario, the $95 fee would be appropriate.

But if the stay is for a DVC villas, and the owner states $95 fee, then it is surely an RCI trade into a DVC resort, and such reservations are subject to cancellation.

I was just watching a DVC auction on E-bay that stated there was a $95 fee upon check in. I had a feeling something wasn't right about it. No one is bidding on it either :thumbsup2 I know I won't.. I have been watching it for several days now. I am glad I came here to look to see if there was anything about that fee..

I had never heard of it before, but now I know why.. it isn't a real owner but an RCI trade.. and I see it is subject to being canceled if sold.. hmmm that explains why there aren't any bids on it either.. should I report this? Here is the link.. the bid ends in a few hours...

Also if you try to question this charge from these listings they are very vaque as to why the charge, as stated by others I would not book with anyone listing the fee.

Gee, when I clicked on your link, there were lots of OKW rentals listed. When you click on them, most of them also note a $95 fee required. Are all of these RCI trades???

Quite likely.

So, what's the best way to notify RCI of this?

not sure if anyone else noticed this or not but on one link on the first page, the saratoga springs reservation had OKW and SSR pics in the ad and a pic from i don't know where but it didn't look like any pic from a DVC that i've seen. Looks to me like the person really didn't have a clue about the resort if they are mixing up pics. I would think that any owner or experienced renter would be able to pick that up. To me, that would be a red flag to not use that person but can see where someone who doesn't know DVC and the resorts could be taken.
