9/27/14, Returning to the Southern Caribbean

We have been on 3 Disney cruises so far. Western Caribbean 10/10 on the Magic. 4 night Bahamas member cruise 9/11 on the Dream. 4 night Bahamas cruise on the Dream 12/12. We are going on the Fantasy for the Eastern Caribbean 11/13. Now we have this cruise booked. We are so excited! Our boys didn't go with us on the member cruise, so they are used to us going without them sometimes.

Bill ths is the plain bench seat on the Dream on deck 14 forward.

This is Satellite Falls on the Fantasy. Note the covered area in the background too.

Another view. There is a bench under the water and along the side. The water cascades down from above to make a water fall.

This is the extra wading pool with the covered stage I told you about. On the Dream is has a couple chairs but basically its just an area to walk across from side to side on the ship.

Well in the adult areas Forward on the ship on the Dream there is the bar and a few tables and chairs, then as you go more forward there was a few chairs and the view of the ocean. One of those white balls had a bench seat around it. You know where I am speaking about?

Ok on the Fantasy they have Satellite Falls which is that white globe. No bench seat there but there is a ring around it full of water where you can sit quietly and now and then water falls from above so your sitting behind a waterfall. Its really a unique feature. Plus that area has a large covered area full of nice loungers with an extra clear wind break for comfort. Thats one huge thing I like much better.

Also on deck 12 I believe on the Dream its just a few loung chairs towards the forward part of the ship but where families can go. Its all open there. On the Fantasy there is a small wading pool for kids that most never see, plus a covered stage area with live entertainers a couple times a night.

On the Dream the Clubs are kind of dark looking as you walk through the hallways. On the Fantasy its bright and colorful On the center area is La Piaza which is a bar that looks like a carousel. Its really pretty. The area where they have late night snacks in the adult area on the Dream has a small shelve to set your food. On the Fantasy they have several small tables and chairs that remind me of the old soda fountain places.

The hallway on the Dream is pretty, all black tiles that are shiny, on the Fantasy its like your wandering through a cave and the bathrooms have awesome tile pictures on the walls.

Now the sports bar on the Dream beats the Fantasy hands down for design and size.

In the Royal Court on the Dream they have great pictures of all the princesses and princes which is amazing. But on the Fantasy all those photos are done in tile. That is awesome!!!

Now AFT on the dream before going up to the sports deck is a large bar called Waves and a few chairs. Its very nice but its rare if you see more than one person there. Kind of a waste of space for me since there are plenty of bars closer to the pool and adult areas and waiters.
Now on the Fantasy this is a huge kids water play area featuring Donald Duck.
Its perfect for kids that are too big for Flounders reef but not comfortable enough to be in a pool, or maybe they cant swim. Well this place is amazing with water falling from boats that are suspended up high, buckets tipping full of water, water spurting from the deck and its large so kids can run and have fun without bumping into people. There is also a large bench there for parents to sit on if they want to. Donalds foot prints guide you to it and through it.

The bar Waves is off to the side where the restroom use to be. No chairs, must walk up and get your drink. It is super tiny and faces the ocean. It took me 3 days to find it. Mostly waiters come to fill their orders there and take to guests.
ok on the Dream AFT on deck 4 is a huge outside smoking area. Now if your a jogger or runner you dont want ot go by there smelling smoke all the time and the smell is so strong it drifts up to the balconies above. On the Fantasy they removed that area. I am a non smoker so for me that is nice.

Anyway that is some of the differences. I have photos that would show better than I can explain. If photo bucket ever starts workign good again (they're working on the site) I will post them for you to see.

Dont get me wrong, I love the Dream too. Its an amazing ship but the Fantasy is better for my tastes.

Great review.
Thanks
Bill

Good morning,

Here is a tirvia question to see if anyone knows the answer. This is also right from Disney trivia on the ships.

What is the name of the dark color on the bottom part of all Disney ships?
BONUS: What is the story of how it got its name??

Monica blue...I've heard it's actually the color of the slacks a woman named Monica wore to work when they were trying to find a color as black didn't work as well as hoped.
Is it true? yes the paint color and name.... I do know it's NOT black but don't know if the story how it got that name is true

Yes thats right. Monica was a secretary for Disney and they told her they needed her pants. LOL!!! So she brought them to work and they contacted the manufacturer and bought the rights to that color of dark blue for the ship. They named it after her.:thumbsup2

Great job!!

:goodvibes Here's a bit of trivia we learned about the Fantasy--

In the Skyline Lounge, there are scenes of several cities. If you watch, you can find some Disney Imagineer touches to the scenes. ;)
Some require you get up close.

That's our favorite place to hang out in at night. Will have to look closer although we have only been on the dream and not the fantasy yet

we go have a before-dinner drink there every cruise!
since we are on the Magic this cruise, we will be in Sessions! :thumbsup2

I didn't know this when we were on the Dream, so will have to check it out in January! I don't know if the Dream has the same hidden things or not.

Good morning everyone.
Anybody have plans for the weekend?

No special plans here. Maybe I will take the time to study excursions a bit more.

Have a great day everyone,

Kathy

Have a bathroom that was ripped out and rebuilt, much larger. So the tile work is getting done this weekend. Not very exciting.

St. Patty's Day parade tomorrow, if it's not too cold out. Corned beef and cabbage at the MIL's house Sunday evening.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

New bathroom is exciting. Have fun at the MIL's. BTW, the new signature looks great.

DD#2 is home for spring break so she and DW are out shopping for jeans. Me, I usually do laundry on Friday afternoon, but since I was a slacker and didn't get anything done yesterday, I get to do laundry :laundy: today. I am also thrilled that the time has come that I must clean out the guest room. Oh well, I am the one that trashed the guest room when I turned an old bedroom into my play room :happytv:. #5, clean up your own mess.

Oh, and I really should stay off the DIS until I'm finished, so don't tell DW where I am. :rotfl:

Here's a question for you today.

How did you decide what room you booked?
Example which side of the ship and why, which deck and why? Or did you just take what ever DCL assigns you?
Some people study rooms and positions on the ship alot before deciding.

Answer:

Greg is the one who studies the cabins and picks them most of the time.
We like Aft rooms with clear balconies, starboard side for the view of CC and higher up the better, just for the feeling of being up high. Besides Its easier to spy on other ships while in port to see what they look like with the binoculars if we are high up. LOL!!:rotfl2:

We like Aft because the elevators are never all that busy. Midship elevators are terrible most of the time. I dont like forward due to the extra motion on the ship.
