i think i'm about to go insane. the power went out about 50 minutes ago, so i decided to use the time to put my FE bags together.
the power came back on after about 5 minutes, but the alarm on the house at the end of my garden has been going off for the last 45 minutes. non stop ringing. and its too warm to keep the door shut.
(so much for us getting the tail end of hurricane bill, havent seen any of it today, its been really sunny and warm)

yay, the alarm has just stopped. but i've still got ringing in my ears!

but after the best part of an hour of assembling gift bags and putting stickers on them with names and room numbers, i'm pretty much done with my FE gifts. i've got one more small thing to buy for them, but getting that tomorrow, then i'm sealing the bags (moreso to stop myself from the temptation to keep buying stuff for them...)

but here they are:

donna, the red bag sat on top is a special one just for bob to say thanks for making us the FE!!

i get the idea that i might end up hanging them off the fish itself because i'm not sure they'll actually fit in the pockets.....
at one point i was worried about not having enough stuff to fill them up, but its pretty much a perfect fit, any more and i wouldnt be able to shut them properly!

Wow Karen! Great job. Looks like you did it the smart way, I made One bag per day, per cabin. and I used plastic gift bags. Since I want overboard on the kids, they each have one backpack that I filled with toys and treats. I am hoping to hand out the kid's backpacks at the Sail Away Party....I think if I left them outside the cabin...they would get stolen.
Bob is going to be thrilled that he gets his own bag of jelly babies...thanks for thinking of him.

damn, you guessed what it was :rotfl:
i was wondering where everyone on here was today, its been sooo quiet!

so i think we need to try and come up with final numbers for ohanas on the 21st, who's in?

I'm in for 'Ohanas, 2 of us (my Dsis Amy will be joining us).

What are Jelly Babies? You guys keep talking about them, but I have no idea what they are!!??!!

i didnt realise that you dont have them over there at all?

they're jelly sweets that are supposedly shaped like babies

personally i dont like them, but Bob does!

by the way is there anything else from the UK that anyone likes and would want me to bring over?

I've never heard of them!! I thought maybe they were like jelly bellies, but not so!! Interesting!!

We don't get in until the 23rd...so no Ohana's for us. I don't thnk I would be able to talk Bob into it anyway. We went there once on our trip in 2006, I got sick half way through the meal and had to lay down on the couches in the lounge while everyone else ate dinner. The rest of the family didn't care for it at all, the only meats they got were the sausages and turkey, which were really dry. At that time they didn't have noodles I think it was scalloped potatoes, which never came to the table. Their drinks never got filled and they were brought the bill and never got dessert. It was really a shame, when Kelly was little it was one of our favorite places to go.

We are going to try and make it to Jelly Rolls, but that will depend if we are picking up Voni from her job at the Outlet Mall. ;)

we ate at ohanas last year, and to be honest it was ok but not amazing. we're going again this year because its a good excuse for a pre cruise meet up!

how long did the last lot of jelly babies last bob?

Keep in mind Bob and I are MUCH older than the rest of you...when we were teenagers WTTW in Chicago ran episodes of Doctor Who. Karen, correct me if I am wrong, but back in the day, Doctor Who was a meant to be a kid's show in the UK. Here it took off with every teenage SciFi geek that was lucky enough to pick it up on public access channels. In total there have been 10 different actors that have played "The Doctor" over the course of about 35 plus years. We grew up watching the fourth Doctor Who, Tom Baker....when he played the doctor he was always carrying a bag of Jelly Babies...which are not sold too many places in the US. If you could get them at all you it was at SciFi conventions. Bob loves them, they are very sweet, and a little denser than Gumi Bears.

FYI - Over the years Doctor Who has "regenerated" which allows for the show to carry on with different actors playing the Doctor. With the new series of Doctor Who, the actors are much younger and much better looking!

LOL :lmao:He paced himself, so they probably lasted him about a week. He was just like a little kid, saving his favorite colors for last.

yeah i grew up watching all the really old bad episodes of doctor who. i remember the really cheesy films too!
i dont remember the jelly babies, then again i wasnt really a huge fan of it.
did bob get the taste for jelly babies from trying them at a sci fi convention then?!

Yes that is where he got them from SciFi conventions. The show was very cheesy, but so was much of the SciFi that was on television then. Heck I can't watch classic Star Trek without laughing now.

yeah the old stuff was sooooo bad. makes me laugh now when i watch it.

there's a couple more bags to keep him going til your friends go back to stock him up :)

Okay, this is a little off topic, but speaking of English and Doctors, Karen -- have you ever seen House? Hugh Laurie (or however you spell his name) is from England (I think), but on House he has an american accent. I saw him on Jay Leno or one of those other night time shows, and it TOTALLY threw me off to hear him speaking with the english accent!! It was nuts!! :lmao:

i dont watch it but i have seen clips of it. his accent does bounce up and down a lot, but i do remember him more from blackadder than anything else!

I love watching that show, he is GREAT at the part.

It's raining here again, boo!! It took me FOREVER to get here this morning (great traffic advice from the radio) and then when I got out of my car I stepped into about 5 inches of water -- apparently the parking lots here do not drain very well!! Luckily, I had on my Mickey Crocs and changed shoes at my desk, so those dried nicely!

it got really dark and cloudy here earlier tonight and i thought it was going to chuck it down but it didnt really do anything.
crocs are quite good when its raining (i've got the flip flop types) but they're lethal when the tread wears down on them and its raining. i've got 3 pairs, one pair i've had for about 2 years, the treads have worn down totally on them and they're almost slick. they're actually dangerous when it rains!! i just use that pair for round the house and taking the dog out when its dry.
