9/23/06 Let's go!!!! Who's with us???

Missed out on pre-booking Palo, as well as pre-booking a pedicure for an at sea day.

Don't be too bummed about the pedicure. The quality of the spa servics is hit or miss. Also, you'll find, if you search pedicures in the DCL forum, some unsettling feedback. For half (or less) than the spa charges, I'll have my pedicure done here in NJ. That is if all my toes heal. I was wearing flip flops while cleaning out the garage last weekend. What a dumb -ss. I have three cuts on my toes and one on the back of my heal. I'm glad my kids didn't know I was doing exactly what I tell them not to do, go out to the garage with out proper footwear.

Valerie, how's the house showing going? I thought of you and the packing situation. I had a showing tonight, had one last night, and we have one tomorrow. When and where am I supposed to pack? At this point, I'm going to pack in the laundry room. That's where we keep the luggage. I can always sweep everything into the suitcases if people are coming to see the house.

Thanks everyone - this sets my mind at ease! That said, I just went out on a MARATHON shopping trip which included Magnetic Paper, water bottles, soft sided cooler and a host of other items per reccos from this board.

Our kids are almost BESIDES themselves, having to WAIT for this trip. I'm taking my DD to the dolphin encounter - she is VERY excited about that. I'm looking forward to some down time, a little spa visit & just a nice fun family vacation. I have a feeling that we will become regulars on DCL. In two years - perhaps.

TTYL!

Hi Kathrin!

It sounds like we may bump into each other as we have similar priorities! :cheer2: At what time did you book the dolphin encounter? We are booked through DCL for the first encounter, I think the meeting time may be around 8:00 or 8:30 am, I can't recall which. It would be fun to have a fellow Dis'er on the same excursion as us. How old are your kids?

I think you will be fine booking a pedicure as long as you go straight to the spa. I actually have a 1:45 pedicure scheduled right after we board, so maybe I will run into you in the spa as well. I also have a manicure booked on Monday and am hoping to book the facial/massage after we board.

This packing while showing a house is driving me batty! I, too, have everything in my laundry room at the moment. I have everything I have bought in bags and all the clothes are still in the closets. I just went out and splurged on a new Rowenta iron so I am going to spend my Friday night ironing and packing clothes tonight. :joker: I hope to get at least one suitcase done tonight because I swill have to have it cleaned up by the weekend.

We also had a showing yesterday, and I am pretty sure we have another showing booked for today as well. At this point, I am feeling pretty defiant about my packing though. I am almost to the "deal with it" stage. :stir:

:guilty: I'm sorry I have posted in a while.... As most of you know I booked our cruise last Febuary...and for the past 7 months I have been :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc jumping up and down with TREMENDIOUS excitement....but in the past two weeks..I have been SOOOOO overwhelmed :sad2: with all the "getting ready" process and with everyday life.....kids, hubby, dance classes, soccer, church, etc...that I am just about to the point of wanting to cry

I feel like there is just NOT enough time in the day to do everything... We leave next Wednesday evening and I still haven't finished shopping, haven't even started packing, still need to find shoes for my dress, make the door signs, board our animals, clean my house...   etc etc. There are times that I find my self thinking "what am I doing?? why are we even going....our girls are gonna HATE it just like they did their first cruise on the Carnival Pride"

I am NOT trying to sound like "oh poor me". I mean I know how blessed we are to be even able to afford this trip....its just I'm just wondering if any of you have gone through all of the same feelings?? I'm not going insane am I? :confused3

I agree....it's getting very stressful going down to the wire.

For me, everything is piling up at work and I wonder why I even schedule vacations when it just causes more stress before and after I return to work. But then I remember that's why I don't return emails or check voicemail while on vacation!

We haven't even started packing although I think we've got everything we need. I too would like to make a door sign, but that may not get done.

Once I get in the car to head for the airport, I can begin relaxing. It will all be worth it.

((hugs)) You poor thing. Been there, done that, probably will be again soon. When I feel overwhelmed in the way you are feeling now, I make a list of what has to be done and what I would like to see done. Yes, dogs need to boarded but worse comes to worse, you don't NEED door signs or a spotless house. If you had to, you could pack everything in a few hours. It's not the way you want to do it, but it could be done. Everything's going to be okay. The girls are going to have a great time. DCL is wayyyy better than Carnival.

:thumbsup2 Yeah, those people know the difference between packing for a trip and a pile of dirty laundry.

We had the showing last night. My daughter fell asleep on the couch right before the people were scheduled to arrive, so I stayed home. I know we're not supposed to be here. I told the agent to ignore the sleeping child and talk at a normal volume, she won't wake up. The boys and I retreated to the basement to stay out of their way. I could hear them saying how much they loved the place and their sons wanted to make themselves right at home. I'm glad I wound up staying home because the family had questions and it seemed like they liked my answers. We'll see what happens. We have another showing in a minute or so, so I'm going to gather up the family and vacate.

I am so overwhelmed right now it is not even funny. I feel the same way. After months of being totally excited about this trip, I find it hard to even prepare for it because of everything else that is going on. I am starting to wonder if I will get everything done in time.

I accepted a new job without thinking about the fact that I would probably also have to do my old job until they found a replacement (and between you and me...I don't think they are in any hurry).

I have been staying til 10pm every night for the past few days trying to make sure I finish as much as possible because just like KSDisneyDad, I don't want to return to a mess.

Next Tuesday is my last day at work :cheer2: :cheer2: So I'm leaving no matter what things look like. :badpc:

We don't leave for FL until next Friday so I should have enough time to pack and clean the house before we leave. Shopping is done. I still have to work on my touring plan for WDW and make our door signs. Hopefully I'll get everything done. Either way...I'm getting on that ship next Saturday!!!

I hope everyone has a "Magic"al weekend!!!

I think we are on the 10:15 dolphin encounter? I'm travelling with a GF that I have not seen since before we both had kids. Her DD is THREE days younger than mine!

We have a DS 3.5 and a DD 5 - they are not even sure WHY they are excited. However, DS told me he wants to go on the rides (we were watching the Travel Channel special, he's CONVINCED the rides from WDW are ON the ship). Poor kid, he will NOT accept the truth.

I never got a pedi OR a mani scheduled (OR a facial, for that fact!) - so, I'm pretty bummed. But, I will try once we are on the boat. Maybe DH will take the kids to the beach one day, & I can get my SPA day? LOL!

What ages are your kids? Or, anyone's kids? Decks/suite numbers? We are mid ship, on deck 6.

Only our two younger girls are going and they are 10 and 7 3/4. We are on deck 2 aft.... room 2131. I was a tad frustrated cause I get VERY VERY  sea sick... and I asked for the lowest deck, mid ship...and I guess they didn't hear the mid ship part :listen: ...Oh well... I bought PLENTY of 24 hour Less Drowsy Formula Dramamine.... :crazy2: I typically start taking it two days before we leave...the whole time we are on the cruise, and a day or two after we get home :sad2: but at least them I am able to hold down anything other then water..and somedays that is pushing it if I don't have the meds on board.

We went to WDW in December and I think Eva may also think there are rides on the ship as well. :rotfl: We are going to WDW after the cruise and I keep making a distinction between the two but I'm not sure it has sunk in yet. We only have one DD, who is three.

We are also on deck 6! I think our room is 6134,it is the cat 7 that used to be cat 6, so we have an open verandah for the price of a cat 7. :cheer2:

We are also on Deck 2 aft, port side -- just down from sftnslky. We have connecting rooms 2138 and 2140. We too would have preferred to be more center (for convenience rather than for seasickness). However, I did read somewhere that aft is actually smoother.

Hopefully we'll have door signs -- I just have to get busy this weekend. My parents are on the starboard side -- I believe room 2576. I actually have their door sign made, just not ours!

We have three DSs going -- 4, 9 and 11. Our middle DS will have just turned 9 -- his birthday is the 18th.

Whooo hooo - another Deck 6-er! LOL!

Ok - so what do you all PUT on your door signs? I have the magnetic paper, but my creativity is in stand still mode. I did get the file that you can make mickey ears from, so I will make 2 sets of those. But, what else do you put on the bigger door signs? I welcome any creative ideas!

Where did you get the file for the Mickey Ears?

I got my ideas from this thread:

Thanks - I'll check that out!

I can NOT for the life of me remember where I got those Mickey ears! But, if anyone wants them, I already saved them to a powerpoint slide. PM me & I'll e-mail it to anyone who is interested. If I DO find that post, I'll link it here. (Wait, I got an error - I'm not able to post URLs yet. So, PM me for the file.)

WHOOO HOOO - ONE week from today, we will all be ON BOARD!

We are also on Deck 6 - all the way forward in a sideways room!! I am working on our door signs as well. I picked up some Disney Scrapbook paper to make ears out of them.

My DD is petrified that a hurricane will ruin our trip. She keeps checking the weather channel - according to her report there are 5 current storms brewing. 2 of them are in Atlantic Ocean. Last August we were on a Carnival Cruise line when the Captain announced that a hurricane was forming and a few days behind us, but there was nothing to worry about. That hurricane was Katrina. We flew out of the the Gulf Coast the night before it came on land.

One cruise related stress might have just been eliminated. I bought waterproof cameras at Target yesterday. Just kidding. The real news is maybe, just maybe, I won't have to arrange for my neighbor to help me keep the lawn and pool tidy for showing while we're away. Last night, our agent called to tell us we have two offers on the house. One of the offers is satisfactory, and we've verbally accepted it. We all are supposed to sign the agreement this week. Of course, dh will be out of town those three days, so we'll have to do everything by fax and overnight mail.

The coincidence is two years ago (minus a month) the sellers of this house were in the EXACT same position. We came to see this house a week before the sellers were to leave for a cruise. They were home when we visited. I remember the wife saying she didn't want to pressure us but it would be a big relief to her if she knew the house was under contract before they left.

Best wishes or positive prayers for a contract this week, we'd appreciate either.

My son is also terrified about a potential hurricane (or iceberg!). We keep telling him that it's okay as long as we can get on the boat. We told him the Captain will keep us far away from any hurricanes.

From the National Hurricane Center http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml it appears that we'll be good to go.

I have to admit your story about just missing Katrina last year is terrifying! I don't think I'll share that story with him until we're safely back in KC.

I have one dd who will be 3 on Wednesday 9/20 and another dd who will be 6 on our first day at sea 9/25. We are on deck 5, 5512 I think it is.
