9/21/02 Cruise

Hey, I'm COOL and I'm going on the 21st... :)

We'll be at the Raddison too! We used the FALL code for the special rate. Where are you coming from, Dave? We're from WA. Anyone else staying there the night before?

I don't know Papa and Kathy but Congratulations to them!

For the few of us who are going on 9/21-- lime green ribbons? We can meet after the boat drill if you'd like...Or some other time during the cruise.

Maybe more DISers will come out of the woodwork the closer we get to 9/21. I hope. I'll keep bumping this post back up.

We're thiniking of the 5-Star Trunk Bay excursion. As for St. Maarten, I'm not sure. We'll either do the French Riviera or Sea & See. We may just be bombs and have the ship to ourselves on the St. Maarten day -- I was really not impressed with the island when I went solo in Feb. Of course, I hear Golden Eagle Catamaran is good. Anyone know if a 6 year-old would enjoy it??

Dee

Welcome, rytayntigger2! I'm sure my son will be glad to know there'll be someone close to him in age! (he'll be 6).

We will be flying in from Albany. Have a very early flight Friday morning, so we are renting a car and will problably spend some time at Disney Village and the Orlando outlets before heading to the Radisson at the Port.

As far as excusions, I would definitely recomment the 12 Metre Sailing Regatta at St. Martin. We have done it 3 times and it is a blast. You are part of the crew during the race. You can choose from "active", "semi-active" or "non-active" jobs on the boat. The competition of the race makes it really exiting too.

We have also done the 5-star St. Johns Trunk Bay snorkle excursion. Although Trunk bay is tremendous, I probably would not to it again. The boat ride their and back are quite long. You don't get to spend much time at St. John actually snorkling or spending time on the beach. I would rather stay closer to St. Thomas and have more time to enjoy the beaches and water.

I'd love to do the regatta, but on port days I don't want to plan on having my son in the club (if he chosses to that's a different story). The Regatta is for ages 12 and up, and he'll only be 6 in Sept.

Good point about the St. John excursion - haven't thought about the transit time. I might reconsider -- what would be your recommendation?

Is anyone on the 9/21 cruise going to WDW first? We decided to do that, so we'll be in the FQ (they re-opened! Yay!) from Tue. night till Sat. morning.

I just booked the 9/21 on the Magic. We went in November of last year, but my husband was on chemo and not feeling very well. We went because we were meeting his brother from Texas and he didn't want to miss it. The 22nd is our 18th anniversary, and since he is feeling MUCH better this year, we decided we had to do it again. I think he will have a much better time this year - he'll even be able to eat the food! Anita.

Hi Anita, Welcome!
It's great to hear your husband is feeling better! Hopefully you'll be able to make up for last November. What a great Anniversary treat!

And I thought the Sept 14th thread was bad being on page 4, I had to rescue this one from page 8. I guess we just aren't a talkative bunch.

Anyway, this is just a bump.

The 60 day mark is coming up soon!, anyone booking any excursions early?. Dh wants to do the regatta so I am going to call for him, the rest we will do ourselves using the taxi's I think. Can't wait!

dee47 - we are going to do WDW after the cruise, to help the depression when the cruise comes to an end!!!. But we will be at the Raddison the night before, I just booked that.

Cheese Please - can you give me examples of what the different jobs are on the regatta in regards to the active, semi and non - active you mentioned. Do they ask you which you want at the time of booking or at the regatta?. TIA

Anyone else doing this cruise?, is it going to be empty?, is there something someone is not telling us?!??!? :D

My wife and I will be on this cruise. I have noticed that the category 10, 11, and 12 are all sold out when you check for a price quote through the DCL web site. Does this mean the ship will be crowded? Does this mean possible upgrades if one is in one of these categories? I'm hoping!!!

Gary

Count me in :D I had booked the 9/28 but was able to get a better deal on this one. I am takiing my Mother who has NEVER been on a Cruise so it will be a blast. There are 4 of us. My Hubby, DD age 8 (on 9/21) My Mother and myself. Cat 5, Deck 7.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

We also will be signing up for the regatta. Any detailed information would be great.

Thanks

Just made my final payment today. That makes it seem so much closer.

I must have missed some of the earlier posts, because I see some questions about the 12 Metre Regatta. Concerning the different jobs, the "active" jobs are the main grinder and I think it was "primary" grinder. These are strenuous job for a short period of time as the boat is coming about (turning). The semi-active job that I remember (because that is what I have had) is rear grinder. Not quite as strenuous and again in short burts to trim the sails as coming about. The less active jobs include Winch Wench that winds and set the lines on the rear winch after coming about and lets the lines out on the opposite side. They give you instructions on how to do all this and then let you try it out before the race. There is also the "Cooler Queen" that hands out soda, water and beer.....very important job. The is also time keeper that has the watch that is used at the start of the race. You have to keep time from the dropping of flags to know when you can pass the start point. Don't want to goof up on that one or the skipper gets angry......all in jest. It is really a lot of fun and the competion makes it very interesting too. You want to go into it with lots of enthusiasim.

There are several trip reports on this and I think some other information on the DIS site. I have done it three times so you can tell I like it.

Oh, they also take a picture of the boat and crew undersail from a little motorboat. If you are in the back, you get seen in the picture a lot better. They also sell T-shirts, hats and other stuff after the regatta is completed.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Thanks Dave, DH can't wait to race!. We paid up last week and yesterday we got the excursion and gifts ahoy brochures in the post, so that made my day!.

Great to see some others joining us!, Hi Kelsie and Gary.

We're paid in full! YAY!

Trying to figure out excursions...I've been gone from these boards for too long! I'll update the list soon. I can't wait to go!!!!

We decided to stay at FQ until Sat. morning, si I cancelled the Radisson. We'll do the Radisson on the way back, since we're going to fly on Sun, spend Sat. (9/28) at KSC.
