9/1 - 9/8 - Huge Mistake?

We just booked our trip to DW for the first week of September and the more I think about it the more I'm afraid I've made a terrible mistake. I'm originally from New England but now live in Phoenix. The heat here is unbearable but it is not humid. I was back in Mass for two weeks last spring and the humidity, even with cool temps, was awful. I felt sticky all the time.

The first week of September is really the only week we can go without pulling my DD6 out of school for full week. They have three days off that week this year. But, like I said, the more I think about this, the more nervous I become that the weather is going to make us miserable. Between the humidity and the potential for rain I'm stressing out about this. :(

I'm not going to lie--it is likely to be hot and humid. On the plus side though, you're likely to see some of the lightest crowds of the year.

We Floridians deal with this weather all the time, and it is certainly no reason to stress.

Us Phoenicians, even the transplanted ones, don't ;) Hence the stress. This is the downside of me planning a vacation more than 7 months out. I have 7+ months to come up with stuff to stress out about!

I go at that time every year, because of the crowd levels and the free dining. The weather is quite hot and humid, but the aforementioned factors make it worth it. Pool time helps.

I am from Massachusetts, we just went 8/25-9/2, and have been before week of labor day.

It is HOT, but to us, not horrible. Nearly every ride inside has some type of air conditioning. We would start our day early, leave around lunch, go back to resort, swim, then head out again around 4:30. Table service meals are all in air conditioned buildings as well.

It was hot, which made us move a bit slower, and lets face it, I have 5 kids, we move slow no matter where we go.

The lines were not even really lines, it was the slow season. But we did encounter rain, and hurricane Ivan, which we went out in anyway.

I vote that you take DD out of school for the week and go in January or February instead. Beat the heat, kid would love that you took her out of school for the week, and she really won't be missing that much anyway. ;)

I think this is the plan I'm going for. Hoping my DH and DD will get up in the morning though. The time difference is not our friend in the morning.

 I was just commenting to my DH this morning that our DD moves slower than molasses in the morning. I cannot imagine FIVE of her!

Personally I like that time of year...we've gone a few time the first week of Sept. because prices are better and the crowds are very low. Yes, it can be hot and humid, but that can easily be dealt with by taking your time, drinking lots and enjoy AC when you can. The much lower crowds helps to deal with the heat as you are not waiting in line as long - many rides we were just able to walk onto and you don't have all these people crowding you when walking around the parks.

We went that same week last year and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't really hot and humid. It wasn't anywhere near unbearable though, and like a PP said, most attractions have some sort of AC area to cool you off. Anytime we got too hot, we'd just duck into one. There was only one afternoon that we thought was really uncomfortable and that was more from the sun than the humidity. You should be good with that!

One piece of advice if you're a stresser (stress-er? stressor? one who stresses ;))......when it gets close to your vacation, DO NOT look at Orlando weather forecasts!! Especially at that time of the year. Late summer every year, these boards are packed with people who are panicking that rain is forecasted for every day of their vacation. Most times, unless an actual hurricane is in play, it will rain for an hour in the afternoon, and it's gone. Usually all it does is run a ton of people out of the parks and make it that much easier for you! Just don't look at the forecast until the day before you're leaving, if at all, go, and enjoy!!

I'm kind of an optimist but I'd say that any trip to Disney is a great trip to Disney - there are no mistakes! :) You might have to be a bit more prepared and take extra precautions to stay hydrated and take afternoon breaks but I would think it's doable!

It's vacation. Don't stress.

If you're in a park and you get too hot, go back to the hotel and swim in the pool. Or go to one of the nice air-conditioned restaurnts for a meal or snack.

You don't have to "commando tour". Disney will be there for many years. You will be back.

You really can't find your answer on a discussion board. Everyone can tell you here that it will be very hot and humid. But you can't get an answer to how much that heat will bother you.

Obviously thousands of people go back summer after summer in spite of the heat and humidity. I am very heat intolerant and after hitting high temps one late September, I won't do it again. But I do think I'm in the minority.

Just go at your own pace. As others have stated, it will be hot. We are going late August and are actually excited to be there with the lower crowds. We used to go in October, but with DS in middle schools and the crowds increasing every year, we are hoping for FD and short lines. The heat and humidity will be just part of the deal. Don't stress and just have a good time.

We got caught in a tropical storm in May last year. Had a lot of fun in the rain and just brought a change of clothes and put them in a locker if we wanted to change.

Yes there will be unbearable heat and humidity and you should not .. I repeat NOT ... come at that time of the year!

( only because we went that time last year and walked on to every ride with no lines at all :thumbsup2 )

Florida rain is definitely nothing to stress about:goodvibes Just as pp stated,it will rain for a very short time. Sometimes,it will be raining in one spot and not another:rotfl:

I was going to say something along those lines as well. We live here and are going that time as well. I value low crowds over weather.

Just don't be in a rush ... no need to be that time of year. Take or buy one of those mister fans.

Don't worry about rain. Typically the rain here hits and is gone so fast it's barely noticeable. The only time you will have real rain is in the event of a hurricane. It would feel good and cool things off so I wouldn't worry about that either. :)

I live upstate NY and we've been going the last week of August for a few years. The crowds are much better than the height of summer, but you week is much better still!
Know where the a/c is, plan your day so you're out a little and then in (new fanatsyland, then Philharmagic...... BTMR, then POTC.....jungle cruise, the lunch at the Plaza, etc).
Spend time at the pool. Bring a small mister, stop for a dole whip.
Go there knowing what to expect and you'll have a total blast!

I have been to WDW that same week for three years in a row, and it is very, very hot. Usually low-mid 90s and humid.

That said, the weather obviously hasn't stopped me from going that time of year. As others have mentioned, the parks are dead so most rides are walk-on and you can get to a show 5 minutes before start time and get a great seat.

It seems like the hottest time of the day is in the early afternoon. Try to plan indoor activities at that time or pool time.

We went in August of 2010. I thought, how bad could it be, at least I don't have to stress about the kids missing school. For us, it was down right bad. We had a great time, but the heat slowed us down and truly took away from the excitemnet of each day. The pool water felt warmer than bath water. I hate hot water in pools. The air conditioning seemed to be turned down in most attractions, so even that wasn't a relief. Then there are Splash Mnt and other wet rides. I swear we didn't even get splashed on any of them. Funny because in December of 2007, we got soaked on everything. We truly did still have a great time, but both DH and I said never again. We will go during cooler months from now on.
