Question......My neighbor's house got rolled with toilet paper last night. Our neighborhood is quite out in the country & all of her DD's friends get brought to her house...so it seems as if a parent would have driven the kids to the house & got the toilet paper for them to roll it? :confused3

Is that the norm nowadays?

It was when my two were in school, about 8-10 years ago. We always thought it to be essentially harmless fun. Fairly easy cleanup and rest of it is gone in a few days of weather. It is a good thing to get TP'd nowadays.

In Arizona, A.R.S. §13-1603 states that if you throw, place, drop or permit to be dropped on public or private property any litter, destructive or injurious material and do not immediately remove it, you can be charged with a misdemeanor (jail time and a fine) or a felony (prison time and a fine) depending upon what was placed on the property. Toilet paper could be considered 'litter' and therefore, toilet papering a house might result in being charged with a crime under this statute. Most states have similar laws - you could call your local police department and ask about the laws in your state.

Stitch TP'd the Castle - it can't be all that bad. :teeth: I have to admit that I'm a guilty 35 year old woman - I just TP'd my sister's house on the night before she turned 30 - I also stuck signs in the ground saying JEN IS 30 TODAY! - She was not happy about turning 30 at all and didn't want it broadcasted - that was the last thing she should have told me! :rotfl2:

First kids TP a house, then add that with the moral decay that reality TV brings, and well, you can flush our society down the toilet

I think I have seen this topic before and it could get heated. My oldest is 12. About 4 years ago, we would do this at slumber parties...we had a blast and it was harmless. It would be at someones house that I knew wouldn't be mad (their child was usually with me doing the deed anyway). We had a great time and no one ever got mad. Harmless fun: )

I had a couple friends that worked in a grocery store in high school. When packages of toilet paper came in damaged, instead of throwing it away like they were suppose to, they kept it. We had about a 1/2 a pick-up full of TP and about 20 people. We tp'd an entire cul-de-sac one night. We had great fun since we were all about 16 at the time. We drove back to the neighborhood the next day to admire our work. After spending about 2 hours on the job, it looked like it snowed. I really feel bad, now, for the people that had to clean it up.

I remember as a teen our house got toilet papered, and my mom woke us up mad and wanted us to get out there and clean it up right away. I asked why we had to do that. She said "it wasn't her friends that did it"... well, I wanted to tell her so bad that MY FRIENDS wouldn't have done it either because by us, it was done as a prank often to the people you didn't like.

by us it was done to people you didn't like. it was definitely not a good thing. in addition to the mess it creates, this reason is why i would NEVER condone anyone tp-ing or helping their kids to tp. seems to me there are a lot of other ways kids could have "harmless" fun. it's certainly not harmless in my experience.

I think TPing is hilarious and harmless. I would have driven my kids to do it if it was for a friend and not meant to be mean. :)
Edited to add: Here you do it to people you do like.

would you have cleaned it up, or made your kids clean it up too?

Yes, I would send the kids back over to offer help. :sunny: Like I said, around here you do it your friends, usually for their birthday or some other "event" like if they were playing in a big game or something. When our next door neighbor's daughter was still in high school, their house was TPed a couple times a year.

It's all fun and games until you get caught without a square to spare.

It must be different in various parts of the country, Caity. Here it is mostly done in relation to sports and cheerleading. The sports teams get tp'd by the cheerleader kids, and they by the sports teams. Many even call ahead or stop by a day or so ahead and ask permission of the parents of the kid going to get tp'd. The kids always do the cleanup. Any residual not cleaned up is gone in days. I have pictures (on film, have no idea where they are) of the many times we got tp'd while the kids were in HS. The kids, and even the parents, feel bad if they don't get tp'd. So definitely different around the country. Interesting.

When I was in high school your yard got rolled if you were popular.I always hoped & prayed to wake up with that delectable fluffy white TP hanging from the pines, but alas...I owned a 200lb Saint Bernard and my dad was 6"4''. Nobody would dare approach my yard after dark.

Last year, the morning after the final performance of the school play we awoke to find long streamers of TP haning from every tree, wafting in the breeze. I was more thrilled than DS17. We're "in"! we're finally "in!" It took us about a week to clean it up and eventually the rain took care of the remnants. Good times.

We always called it "rolling". I had never heard of the term "TPing" until my cousin moved down here from Missouri. This was back in the 70's.

Getting your house rolled is like a badge of honor. And the more toilet paper the better. Counting the cardboard rolls that are left is fun for the kids.

We always rolled the homes of people we liked. A group of us from church used to go out and roll the homes of the elders and deacons. We did one house up real well, front and back and over the top of the house. We did get stopped that night a couple of blocks away by the police as we were heading home but they didn't do anything.

The only person that actually got mad at us was the preacher. He had big, beautiful oak trees in his yard, perfect for throwing toilet paper into. It was a lovely job! It just happened to rain during the night and he awoke to toilet paper all over the yard. He thought his septic tank had overflowed. :rotfl:

Our house was rolled last fall by some of my son's friends. We took pictures before it was cleaned up.

Another thing the kids like to do is "forking" a yard.

My friends and I used to TP each other all the time. It was understood that WE would be up early the next morning cleaning it up though. I once had my windshield shaving creamed and hot dogs stuffed in the door handles of my car. It was soooo much fun getting the guys back though.

If we went to total strangers houses and did it or did it towards someone mean spiritedly that would be a whole other ballgame.

I had to open this thread to see what "rolling" was! We call it TP-ing around here. And, yes, it's a good thing (!) Some friend of our older son TP'd our house the night before we were to come home from vacation, and a friend saw the mess and had her kids help her clean it up before we got home - she thought it was awful! She thought she was doing us a big favor by cleaning it up, but my boys would have rather cleaned it up themselves, just so they could have seen it!
(And I know parents who have driven their younger teens to houses to TP!)

Around here, if you are a high school senior and on the football team, your house gets tp'ed the night before the first game by the cheerleaders. It's harmless and a ton of fun.
