Oh c'mon - like none of you saw this coming?!
I made the mistake of taking a cold, hard look at my DVC points situation yesterday. I really needed to get a move-on with my Dec. reservation before everything gets booked up. But the AKV-Savanna view extra points threw a wrench the size of Detroit into my plans. Plus, I'd been figuring on a major Nov. trip somewhere for Thanksgiving - preferably to Paris.
Well, #1, Paris ain't happenin'. Not this year, anyway. Our dollar's just too wimpy right now. I cold manage the airfare - which is dirt-cheap in Nov. - but not the hotel and food.
Plus, I'm hesitant about Leo missing many days of school. I'm already pulling him for 2 days in his first week of first grade for Fockerfest. Paris would have needed 3 extra days tacked onto the school vacation.
Okay, no Paris. We may or may not decide to rent a house in NC for Thanksgiving, which we can do affordably and be there and back without Leo missing school.
Just WHAT does all this have to do with Aug. WDW planning???? Well, I'd used up a buncha points on Aug., figuring I wouldn't need them for Dec. You know - if we were going to Paris. But with no Paris... a minimum 3 WDW nights in Dec. would sure be nice.
So I had to rearrange points.
On paper, I canceled Aug., planning on a good AP hotel rate instead, kept one night in Oct. at SSR and added 3 nights in a 1 bedroom at AKV - Value or Standard in Dec. with a Sat. night.
Then I canceled Aug., canceled Oct. and added 3 nights in a 1 bedroom at SSR in Dec - with and without a Sat. night.
I also tried canceling one night in Aug., keeping Oct. but changing it to OKW, and 3 nights in a studio in Dec. At SSR, AKV (Value, Standard AND Savanna), BCV and VWL. I did the same thing with a Sat. night thrown in.
Doncha wish you could've been at my house this morning?
but all that hard work
paid off: everything fell into place just right!
I canceled Aug. at AKV.
I booked 8/21 and 8/22 at SSR - Studio.
I kept 10/26 at SSR, but plan to switch to OKW if I can.
I added 12/13-12/16 at SSR, but plan to change it to VWL, BCV or AKV, depending on availability.
AND, I'll have points left over to bank into 2009!
You might be wondering... where's V gonna stay 8/23??
Right now I've got it booked at SSR with a DVC cash rate of $213. I might be able to do better with an AP rate there or elsewhere, so I'm reserving the right to change that part. Who knows? Maybe they'll have a lower AP rate at YC!! Then again, I may decide paying a tad more is worth not moving around. Beauty of it is, I don't have to decide that part for a while.
So T, whenever you feel like it, you can move me on back to SSR, 8/21-24!
Wait, there's more... I talked with Gramma today. Told her about our brilliant Sandcastle Club plan. Explained that she's, of course, welcome to come with us, but she can skip babysitting, skip Biergarten, or skip the trip altogether - whatever she wants to do. She was HAPPY to skip out on Biergarten and babysitting. No surprise there. But she hasn't said "no" to coming altogether. Yet. Just wait till it gets hot down here agin - we'll see.
