80s Flashback...inspired by the gaucho thread

Stirrup pants: designed to make even the most shapely leg look like a log.

Exactly what was the point behind stirrup pants anyway? :scratchin

Stirrup pants were designed so your legs still looked like you were sitting after you stood up :teeth:

I remember the stretch ones that if you sat for a long time would have bumps in the front where the knees were when you stood up. Everyone walked around with two small bumps on their legs.

I referenced Clash of the Titans in my class today and got blank stares in reply. :sad2: It depressed me.

I used to LOVE that movie! I liked all of Ray Harryhausen's movies!

I watched Clash of the Titans not too long ago and the special effects were so clumsy, but back then I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen! :rotfl2:

Remember the Cracken?

I saw an outfit in Macys about a week ago...the leggings with a really REALLY bright over-sized shirt....I thought I had gone back in time for a second!! I HATED leggings!! I was thin (too thin...only wore a size 0) and they made me look twice as skinny!! My favorite clothing item which I hope comes back is the dark indigo designer jeans. They always looked so nice. I can't stand these low waisted things that my girls wear. I don't pay too much attention to boys fashion but I hate the baggy jeans that the guys wear now. I do not want to look at your underwear, thank you very much!! :teeth:

That's too funny. :rotfl:

I had a hard time with stirrup pants because I never could find any in my size that were long enough. I was so desperate for some, though, that I bought a very ill-fitting pair. The crotch was somewhere mid-thigh because they were so short!

:lmao: Okay that just cracked me up. :lmao:

Does this mean we get to start pegging our pants again :rotfl2: ! I love everything about the 80's except now I'm too old to wear the clothes!

:lmao: You need to stop. :lmao: People are beginning to wonder what the heck is so funny. :lmao:

What I want to know is...

Without a movie to inspire them, will today's youth pull out their scissors, cut the collars and cuffs out of their sweatshirts, and wear them inside-out, over a tank top, hanging off one shoulder, with a huge belt? :scratchin

And here I thought I was so cool when I had those sweatshirts! :rotfl2:

Sadly enough I think leggings are making a comeback. I pass the HS's bus stop on the way to work and I see this girl wearing them or skin tight jeans everyday. If they do make a comeback, I refuse to wear them. They didn't look good on me then, they still won't now.

Oooo...pant pegging! I could NEVER get it right...my pants always "unpegged" by 2nd period.

What about leg warmers? Are they coming back too? And bike shorts? :scared: Fashion is really headed in the wrong direction if that's the case!

I was too young for most of those, but I do remember my jelly shoes! I had about eight pairs. It was always awful the first day or two wearing them...I would get these awful blisters. But I would put up with it for those!

Hated the popped polo colar look, too.

Is pegging the same thing as tight rolling? We might have called it something else down in Arkansas lol.

yep - or the tuck and roll.

funny - i always felt "uncool" until someone showed me how to do the tuck and roll...

looking back...how freakin' stupid.

heheh

jelly shoes, rubber bracelets, mesh tops, leggings, tight/tapered jeans, puffy sleeve sweaters, sweater vests, polo shirts w/ popped collars...all have made a come back.

beware of stonewashed jeans and ankle socks (worn with jelly shoes!) with lace trim!

I think it is the same, lovemygoofy. Sounds like it, anyway!

Oh wow, I"m going to have to start tight rolling my jeans, get some anklets, and wear them with black flats from Payless.

I totally forgot about the knee stretch marks in stirrup pants. :rotfl2:

I remember last year being at Wal-Mart and seeing a whole rack of buttons with sayings on them!! I had som many of those things on my jean jacket in middle school. I couldn't believe they could be making a comeback!!

Next thing you know kids are going to start using 12 key chains for one housekey like we did!!!

I still have a pair of jelly shoes! :guilty: Haven't worn them in about 9 years. Oh boy, were those things painful.

Hey if leg warmers come back, I am set. I still have a pair from when I used to tap dance.

The ankel socks with the lace...oh no. I will not wear those.

Definitely leg warmers!! What about jelly bracelets? And do you think my co-workers will think I am mad if I wear one ponytail on the side of my head?

Scary! My 7yo DD wants to wear her hair in a side ponytail! That is not really coming back, is it?

Thats how I wore my hair with my mini skirt and leggings :rotfl:

With my Lee jeans and Izods I wore the barretts I wrapped ribbons around and hung bead on the end. That was probably after making the "friendship pins" with the beads and safety pins! :lmao:

Did anyone else do that, or was that a local thing?

I just thought of one more - remember the headband-types thingies that you wore on your forehead? I don't know how else to describe it, but I had some!
