You know, it's not even really the toll-free numbers (that were never intended for use by the general public - had to get that in ) that are the 'touchy' issue; it's more that despite knowing this, many posters continue to insist that it's fine to use and share these numbers.

Disney Accounting isn't stupid. Any business with WATS (toll-free) lines is billed per call per minute/unit. It's pretty obvious that they're auditing the phone bills, and shutting down the lines as each gains in popularity. The lines they can't shut down - like the McDonald's one - they're still not allowing the general public to use.

Of course, anybody who does want to use that particular number could always just get a job at McDonald's

This sounds just a bit harsh to me...um...get a job at McDonald's?
I have used the toll free numbers before and the prompts are identical to the other numbers (without the survey questions...wonder why?...) No CM has ever said to me "How did you get this number, why are you using this number, etc" They have been nothing but pleasant.

Some might interpret your posts to mean, yes, I have the toll free number but if I share it with all of you, they might cut it off. In other words you are obviously not the "general public" - apparently you're some WDW VIP?

Huh??? Where in the world do you get that? I just read (and between the lines) that Disney doesn't provide toll free numbers for the general public or else you would see them on every commercial you see on TV.

Harsh? No, it was a suggestion. If somebody wants to use a telephone number that was set up for use by McDonalds employees, that person could legitimately use that number BY getting a job at McDonalds.

Some would be wrong. In other threads/posts, I use the word WE. I'm a "plain old", general public, Disney fan.

I've always found it odd that WDW didn't have a toll free number for the general public. All the hotel chains have them and most consumer companies.

I think everyone is trying to move customers to online services these days. I myself book 99% of travel plans, hotels, etc. online. But the WDW online booking site just stinks, in my opinion. Too much flash and not enough content. I wouldn't mind booking online if they improved the darn website.

I agree with you about Disney not being a very user friendly site. It just takes too long to do anything and sometimes the information you get is not consistent with what you would get on the phone.

Off hand, I cannot think of any other travel entity (hotel chains, cruise lines, etc.) that does not have an 800 number.
