8 seater car hire? Advice..

We're going in a few weeks and our original party of 4 has swelled to 7. I normally hire a 7 seater minivan for 4/5 people but believe that a 7 seater may be short on space for 7 large adults particularly with luggage. We won't have too much luggage but suspect we may be more comfortable with an 8 seater. To those who have had an 8 seater 4x4 SUV with Budget through US Rentacar in the past can you tell me what kind of vehicle you get. I don't want to finish up with a "tank" or school bus type of vehicle and if there is a chance of this happening I might just persevere with a 7 seat minivan.

When we did this we had some people and their luggage take Magical Express. There was plenty of room to drive around in while in Florida, just not from the airport with luggage. If you aren't staying at WDW you may want to book some of the people an alternate transport to where you are staying. This is far better than driving a "tank" as you put it, everywhere you go the rest of the trip.

Don't presume that by going from a 7 to and 8 seater minivan you are getting more space, most likely the same van with an extra seat which actually means less space. Only those HUGE conversion vans whcih seat 12 or something crazy will give you extra space.

Also be weary of SUV's lots of them offer 7 or 8 seating but are actually tight when it comes to luggage space.

I like the idea of using DME and then renting or have most of your party use it and you drive the rental from the airport.

Good luck and if you are unsure about cars find out which car you will rent and then research the model on line.

We had an 8 seater Sienna when we were there in January, but I can't remember who it was with - could have been Alamo at MCO - 6 adults, 2 kids in baby seats and LOTS of luggage inc 2 strollers fitted in no problem.
