8/21/08 Wonder 3 night

Gonecruisin- WELCOME!!!!

Pierresgirl- i asked the guy at work and he said for a ferry ride to the Atlantis it was $3 each way.... and he thinks a taxi was $16, not sure if that is round trip or what???

ski- how are you enjoying this humidity???

did everyone book there shore excursions, palo dinners, etc...., yet?? and by the way how come we can only book dinners and not a brunch? i would have concidered brunch.

~Sue

Thanks all for your warm welcomes!

pierresgirl -- I have read on other posts that the ferry is too time consuming and taxis are the way to go -- $4/pp.

I was nervous about the Nassau time changes so didn't book an excursion there. We will check out the Pirate Museum and anything else people recommend. Then head back to ship for less crowded fun there.

Did book the Extreme Getaway for CC. It seems to have a little bit of everything included in it. DD wants to feed sting rays; DS wants to snorkle. This package makes everybody happy! Got to love it!

I have a question that I haven't seen addressed on the disboards yet ---- what are the chances that my DD 20 will be allowed to go w/ her brother DS 16 to the teen clubs? Will she be banned? He might not join in if he has to go alone.

DCL is very strict with age limits in the kids clubs. So, no, DD would not be allowed in Aloft.

DCL does have a "college" social (it should be listed in the Navigator) where the 18-21 y/o's meet.

My DS is 13 so he will be in the teen club. He's very social and friendly.

I know what you mean about siblings wanting to do things together. My DD & DS are very close.

Off to DD's final softball game. Its 99 degrees outside and we're playing in a park that has zero shade.

I'm acting like a mole rat and staying inside and only emerging at night.

The 3-night Wonder does not offer Palo brunch because we do not have a "sea" day. Brunch is only offered on the sea days.

Hi Y'all, Welcome Gonecruisin!

Hope everyone is fine and dandy.

Booked nassau dolphin encounter and palo for 7.30, not managed castaway cay yet as the site keeps on going down! I'll just keep on tryin!

Anyhoo, just a quick hi, I'm off to bed, think I've been lucky enough to catch a dose of summer flu! Fabulous!

Talk soon, take care all.

Odd that the 8/17 cruise is sold out but not the ones before or after that. What's so special about 8/17?

I am flying SW but using DCL trans to and from port. Do I get my bags at airport and bring to Dis Ctr to catch bus or do they get them for me? Some posts say they only get them if you're on a Dis Participating airline but others are more vague. Just want to make sure my bags get on the ship!!:beach:

Thanks! I booked the Nassau Harbor cruise and I *think* it takes you to Paradise Island beach, but I'll need to look into it more. I just want to see how the rich people live :hyper: I think Palo only does brunches on the longer cruises. We didn't book a dinner there.

Gonecruisin- thanks for the taxi info. Maybe we'll sneak in the Pirate museum, I forgot about that! I booked my dd and dh for the parasailing on CC.

It's been SOOOOO :faint: hot here too, in CT, my kids games were cancelled on Mon and Tues and they were dismissed early yesterday. Today it's finally nice! Plus I'm getting my mother's day facial so even nicer ;)

If you use DCL transport then you don't have to worry about your luggage. DCL will send you special luggage tags to put on your bags. So you don't have to retrieve your bags at the airport. They will go straight to the Wonder.

You just look for the DCL reps at the airport and they will direct you to the busses.

Wow - the last four days were just brutal. Saturday and Monday were the worst. Temps hit 100 on both days. My kids had baseball/softball games on Saturday and Monday night.

DD's softball game was the worst. Absolutely no shade and a looooong walk from the parking lot to the field (of course the girls' field is the furthest from the parking lot).

I woke up this morning in a lot of pain from heat exhaustion and all the walking from DD's game.

Got a mini massage this morning and feeling better. DD's softball party is tonight.

My cast comes off at 11:00am on Thursday. I'll be in a walking cast for two weeks but at least NO CRUTCHES!!!!

Sea & Ski -- cast off? Are you better now that it's cooler?

Wondering ??:confused3 Has anyone heard why DCL stopped the Banana Boat rides and if they plan on returning them in time for our trip? I have heard it's a lot of fun. (I have also heard people fall off all the time) ::yes::

Also ---- I have seen posts for two-for-one special drinks of the day on CC. Do they have these specials on board, too? (Maybe the twofers have something to do with the people falling off the Banana Boat??? It seems likely)

FYI.

:surfweb:

I have been following an excellent trip report for the 3 day Wonder.

Not sure how to provide the thread but it's ::::: 6/5/08 3 Night Wonder Trip Report- with Navigators, 20 tips, and 100+ photos!!!

Fun to read and really good info.

Check it out. ::yes::

Re the banana boat rides.....DCL has had problems with the vendor in the past and my guess is that they just finally stopped dealing with them for good.

Unfortunately it means we will not know if/when DCL can find another vendor to offer banana boat rides. The vendors come from Abaco Island and are not Disney employees.

Re the drinks onboard......there is a drink "special" of the day that is at a reduced price. Its a different drink each day and I believe its listed in the Navigator. I remember in Cozumel that the drink of the day was a tequila sunrise. It was yummy.

And speaking of drinks....DH and I still cannot find any DCL bartenders that can make a decent margarita. We've even ask to put in more expensive tequilla and the margarita's still don't taste as good as what we can make/buy back home.

Yes, the cast is off!!!!!! Came off Thursday. I now have a surgical boot. I am now extremely sympathetic with the Yankee pitcher who got hurt running the bases a few days ago.

I still have to use the crutches. I can "walk" with the crutches for about an hour a day. I have to ease into putting my body weight onto the foot.

And I wish the doc had mentioned that I would shed skin like a rattlesnake. Sheesh - layers and layers of skin came off like in a horror movie.

And my calf is half the size of the other one. But the foot looks pretty good.

So I've got two weeks in the boot. Then after that I will need physical therapy to learn how to walk again.

But having the ability to put both feet on the ground even for a few minutes is such a relief.

I did do something silly - I badly sunburned the skin that used to be covered by the cast. I was watching DS's playoff baseball game and didn't realize how strong the sun was. The rest of me didn't really burn but the lower leg is lobster red and boy is it sore.

Last week of school for my kids.

conecruisin- i will def. check it out. i love reading the TR, esp. the ones with pictures.

sea & ski- i'm glad your cast is off, and its getting some fresh air (finally)!!- nice weather this week, (yeah!!)
thats just horrible with your leg peeling like that, and then getting a burn on top of it! just goes easy on your foot so you wont feel pain when it snows or rains.. just take it easy!

well 1 more day of school. 1/2 day tomorrow! then sat. we are off to Myrtle Beach.

well i want to go and catch up on the Disboards,(and also check out that TR that gonecruisin mentioned) since i have been MIA this past crazy week!

by for now,
~Sue

Hi everyone,

We booked the Comfort Suites on Paradise Island - proce was 207.20 pernight and we needed 2 book 2 rooms since there are 7 of us ($419.34). They give you a pass to use all of the facilites at Atlantis. We are going to check in adn get the passes (it is a short walk accross the street to Atlantis)We will probably take a cab there and back. I read alot about cruisers fdoing this so I hope is works out okay (some said they never even checked in the room at all but is was well worth the price to go to Atlantis.

gonecrusin, I am travelling with my DS20 his Dfriend20 and Dniece15 (my kids are more your kids age!)

ski-n-sea, hope you are feeling well and getting around better!

Has anyone had the massage in the cabanas on Castaway Cay? Thinking about it but the price is high - just wondering if it is worth it.

Enjoy your day evrryone!

9 WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!

I have yet to hear anything bad about doing the Comfort Suites day rooms. The only negative is that we have two less hours in Nassau than we usually do. I am still so disappointed that we had to cancel our private snorkeling excursion because the ship arrives too late and departs too early

I have heard good things about the Castaway Cay massage. They are located at the adult beach. Those huts look heavenly and I would definitely do it one time. Indulge yourself. The only funny thing I've read is that they aren't quite as "private" as you think and people can peek in from the adult beach area. So when you remove your top to get the massage just be mindful of "how" you do it.

Today I did my first walking without the crutches. How glorious to be "hands free"!!!!!

Hi Mikesmom.

Good to hear that my kids won't be the only teenagers on board. That will help ease the awkwardness. My kids have never done a DCL and are frightened it'll be like visiting a kindergarten class on steroids. Your kids seem like pros ---- I asked earlier if the 20 y/o got to join w/ their sibs at Aloft and was told no. True? Does your teen spend much time at Aloft?

You'll have to let me know how you make out with the Comfort Inn and Atlantis. I really wanted to do that but being a newbie, was scared of commiting only to get screwed and then the time changes just convinced me that I'd be better off taking it slow.

Do you veterans decorate your doors and dress for pirate's night? I am getting conflicting info from reading various posts. It seems like the 3 night cruise is more laid back. I am already thinking I need to book a 7 night cruise so I don't miss a thing. Amazing how quickly you get addicted to this!!!!

Hi gonecruisin

Yes, the teens have great fun (as long as they are not too shy). They are all in the same place so they are open to making new friends. We didi the Royal Caribeean in January and my DS20 loved having the casino but he is a disney lover - so he is lookign forward to going back on Disney. We are a little leary about the Comfort Suites but I have been reading positive things on this board so I am going to hope for the best. We have 7 travelling and the excursion thru Disney was just too much and the family really wants to see Atlantis.

We decorated our door when we travelled the last time (after we saw how many peopel did it on our 1st Disney cruise). And we have some pirate shirts and such form Disney's pirate and process party so we will dress for that.

Tell the kids it doesn't matter ow old they are on a DIsney cruise - it is fun for all!

And you will definitely book the 7 day after this cruise! it is addictive :)

Yes, its true that not as many on the 3-night cruises dress for pirate night or decorate doors. But the only reason that is true is that many on the 3-night are first-timers and don't know!!!

If more people knew ahead of time to dress up and decorate theirs doors then you would see more of it.

So go ahead and dress up and decorate the doors!!! The CMs and other passengers loved looking at our door and loved that we dressed up for pirate night!!!!

Our stateroom host told us that he got so many comments from people about our door. And every CM we saw on pirate night was so happy that we dressed up. Not just the entertainment staff dresses up but also the entire bar staff. So it really becomes a festive atmosphere when you walk around the ship all dress up. Argh matey pirate:

We don't have the pirate night menu in the dining rooms like on the longer cruises but we still do the conga line during dinner. My kids enjoy that.

BTW.....did you notice that the all aboard time in Nassau is now 5pm!!! Sheesh.

we can't wait. this is our first time cruising and we are so excited,

Melissa, Isaiah and Daniel :cool1:
