8/17/2008 Double Dip 4-day Wonder

Thanks for the info, frozenmickey and Dizzyworld, re the plugs and extension cords! We have electronics that we want to plug in as well, so it's just not my hair dryer at stake!

And thanks for the tip re the folder, frozenmickey! I'll have to stop into Staples and see what I can find there.

Dizzyworld, yes, it is nice that my ex has the vacations with the kids. We have a very amicable separation and he's a great dad so I'm very grateful for that. Some of the horror stories I've heard from other people in my situation make my hair curl! It will be a bit sad for me on the Wonder because all the other Disney cruises I've been on were with the 4 of us, but I'm blessed to have fantastic children so I know we'll have a wonderful time. Plus I know that there are so many nice people on the cruise with us!

Lynda - my DD is so funny - she said yesterday, out of the blue - I am so happy I have a friend to meet up with!! She said your DD sounds like a lot of fun!! I am glad they'll know someone so the club won't seem quite so intimidating!!

Of course - the DS wants a friend too!! I told him coach's nephews will be his age, so he's happy now.

Coach - how many shirts did you end up sending?

I am really getting excited!

Lynda - I am giong to start working on our door decorations too!!

Disnutz, I'm so glad that the girls will be able to go to the teen club together too because I know my DD is a bit nervous about it as well. My DS is 16 but he's very shy so he's probably feeling the same way.

I'm trying to minimize the number of clothes that I'm taking but it's so hard! I always overpack and I had vowed not to do it this time, especially when we're at Castaway Cay twice. But easier said than done!

Clothes, ok, I need to pack some of those....

Sunscreen (by the gallon)... I bet the spray-on kind violates some airline rule...

Hats and sunglasses.... can always but a new hat but need those Rx sunglasses...

Speaking of Rxs.... need those too...

don't panic yet... breathe... still 12 days to go...

You know what's funny? I usually stress so much about packing the whole family for vacation. But after packing the two of us for a 14 day Europe trip earlier this summer, adn then coming back and helping DD pack for a 2 week overnight camp, I am not stressed at all!! I started throwing some things in a bag and I guess i will try to do a little a day.

Surprise today... Altough our TA said we wouldn't get the cruise docs, they arrived by FedEx today ("very urgent"). Was nice. Now it's really coming close! Only 12 days before we step on the plane.
Did some shopping today, but the packing will be for the day before we leave. I guess for two guys that's a lot easier ;) However I was wondering: is a shirt & tie ok for dress-up night? Or even overdressed? What are you planning to wear that night?

OK still no cruise docs - did anyone book through DU? If so, have you gotten your docs?

I'm still waiting for my documents and I booked throught DU. I'm getting a little stressed because we leave for WDW in 11 days:scared: I emailed DU but I haven't gotten a response yet.

Thanks Wisconsin mom - can you post if you get them?:confused3 I know on our last cruise we used DU and got them pretty early.

My docs have been received by my TA! I booked the cruise through CAA (AAA in the US) and he just called now and told me he received them through FedEx. I'm going to pick them up on Aug 6 because the TA's in downtown Toronto where I used to work, but now I'm out in the 'burbs. I feel like going down right now to get them but I'll just have to be patient...but it's so hard!

Yikes...go away for a week and there is soooooo much to catch up on!

I had a total of 17 shirts to do. They will be sent out by the end of the week priority. The kids never question what I do in the basement...:lmao:

Now we have a delema ....I am really concerned about my oldest daughter. I showed her a video of a cruise, and asked her if she would like to go on one, and she said no way no how!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:   and:scared1:
:sad2: I don't know if I should spill the beans to keep her from having a total panic attack at the terminal or not. For that matter I am seriously thinking of telling the three of them so they can enjoy some of the prep that goes with it. 0 hour is coming, and I am thinking of telling at least my 23 year old. She just got this worried look on her face when I told her I was thinking of booking one for next year. A

I think you should go with your gut. If you think she'll freak - tell her now!!

I got a good surprise - from another thread I found out that docs are shipped UPS and if you put your cruise ress # into the shipping reference box, you may see if they shipped. They did! Yea - to arrive tomorrow!!

Mine are scheduled to arrive tomorrow too. Hooray:cool1:

Ok, done deal...I sat the three of them down, started the conversation with the sounding of the horn...on my desktop I have a picture I took last year with the Wonder docked at CC with the Flying Dutchman in the frame and said, in 20 days you will be seeing this scene live!.....here is what I looked at

   (oldest to youngest)

Then slowly we got  :)

Eventually it turned into :dance3:

So they know now.... There has been so much discussion about this topic with my parents, I just felt they were going to find out and we would not have the look of amazement....I got the response I wished for, and now my oldest has two weeks to get a handle on it, but to my surprise she seems very good with it, but I feel had I waited until we got there it wouldn't have been that way at all. Soooo, they now know, and I have mixed feelings about it, but they are buzzing like you would not believe...even the big one is getting "jazzed" about it. :thumbsup2

Coach Rick, I'm glad everything went so well, and although they won't have the big surprise on our sailing date, you're right about them experiencing the prep beforehand. Plus they still had the big surprise, it was just a little earlier than planned. I agree that if you hadn't told them, things might not have worked out too well with your oldest DD. At least now, as you said, she has time to prepare for it.

I laughed so hard when I read your post with the faces; you couldn't have picked a better way to show us their reactions!

Now your whole family can talk about the cruise and revel in it!

Hey Coach........Now you can wear your shirts to the ship. I'm glad everything is falling into place nicely.

However I was wondering: is a shirt & tie ok for dress-up night? Or even overdressed? What are you planning to wear that night?

My DH will wear a shirt and tie, but not sure if we'll pack a jacket. My DS will just be in a shirt and tie. Last year we took everything but decided not to rush getting back to the ship for dinner and missed the semi formal night anyway. Had a lovely meal at Topsiders though.

Our flight out is the 16th at 3:40. Are we the last ones? We got our documents yesterday and were all jumping up and down! It's our first cruise!!

What was the time & place for the meet? Should write it down somewhere...
Can't promise we'll be there, it's our first cruise so it's difficult to see now how everything will go once we're on board and first of all we want to take it easy :) But if we've the chance we'll be there...

3 pm in the Promenade Lounge, which is on deck 3 midship. I hope you two can make it, Willem, but I know what you mean about taking it easy.
