8/17/2008 Double Dip 4-day Wonder

My counter tells me that we're under the 6 month mark. Yay! Looking forward to seeing you all just a few months from now. :)

Yahoo! Didn't realize that it was less than 6 months so thanks for pointing that out, addicted_to_WDW!

Yeey the trip is coming closer! Booked our flights yesterday. Will leave the last day at MCO at 2PM. Is that ok?

With apologies for gate crashing your thread, I thought I would repeat here a post I made on the Repo thread.

105/90/75 days booking.

Has anyone else had this scary :scared1: thought, after the Westbound cruisers problems booking online at DCL.

We will book the same night as the 08/17/2008 Wonder four night trip. Now I am not sure if this has ever happened before, but two cruises both booking the same night isn't good?

Wonder if DCL have thought of that, it would be sensible to move one by a day?

Now on the Westbound PC trip the DCL ressie system broke down, on the Eastbound Repo we have considerable repeat cruisers and if we both book the same night the system looks like it could crash.

One of our crew has contacted DCL, they said they would look into it, but maybe someone here would like to do it as well?

Good luck.

Hi Andrew,
Sorry but I'm confused. Are you saying that the Wonder and the Magic are leaving on the same day? And does that mean that the reservation system could crash and our reservations would be impacted?

Willem, if you're leaving at 2pm the last day of the cruise, that will be plenty of time. We've usually arrived at 9-9:30 am at the airport that morning.

We're in the process of booking our flights too! We're flying down the night before and then staying at WDW for a few days after the cruise. I just hated the thought of returning home immediately and getting back to cooking and cleaning after the luxury of being on the ship for 4 days!

We're doing the opposite. We're flying into Orlando early in the morning on the 15th to spend a bit of time at WDW before the cruise, but we have to go straight home after it because DS has to attend his high school orientation that Friday. My baby is going to high school!

Wow! High School!!!:cheer2: My one and only baby will be starting middle school at that time and I'm freaked out! It is much different than when I was that age since our elementary school was K through 6 and then we went to a Jr. High. This middle school (6-8) feels so young! Ah well.

This trip is a big blow out for us. We are going to AKL for a few days prior to the cruise then Poly for a week after the cruise! Cannot wait. But we are from the west coast so we want to make the most out of the long flight.

DS and I are having an ongoing argument (all in good fun) about who is looking forward to this trip more--me or him. :yay: :yay: It's kind of a toss up right now!

So looking forward to August!

My baby (DD14) is starting high school too! My DS15 has to go to his school the day after we get back to arrange a locker, pick up his timetable, etc. so that's why we're coming back on the 25th. My DD was accepted into a School of the Arts in the music program (she plays the flute) so she's very excited about that! And that explains why she loves Guitar Hero!

cyndisun, wow, what a great holiday! We love the Poly too (especially with the monorail) but my DS loves CBR so that's why we're staying there. It's pretty close at my house too as to who is looking more forward to the cruise and WDW but I think I'm in first place!

Should we be worried about what Andrew Derek UK mentioned? I have heard back from him but maybe someone else is familiar with the issue.

My DS is an only child too and I was so freaked out when he went to middle school. I cried! It seemed like such a huge step at the time. He had no trouble and yours won't either. I'm sure that I'll be a crying fool this fall when mine takes his next big step.

Lynda - I'm not familiar with the issue Derek mentioned, but I guess the concern is booking Palo, excursions and the like? I'm not planning on Palo so am I wrong to think that booking excursions exactly 75 days out isn't absolutely necessary?

Hi everyone!
Just adding our names to the 4 day August cruise! We are going with another family...DS(8) and DS(10). Its our second time and their first! We are all very excited!
Anyone from NJ?

Hello YES we leave LA on August 17th, the same day you leave PC, in Florida, so our 105/90/75 days will be the same as yours, and sorry to say, thats not good news, we are not sure if DCL realize and maybe this is the first time the two DCL ships are scheduled to leave at the same day.

Thanks for getting back to me, Andrew and to you too addicted_to_WDW! We'll definitely have to keep that in mind if we're thinking of booking anything.

kewlteacher, welcome aboard!

We booked our flights! Just got the confirming email today. Yahoo!

Hi everyone,

Just back from a week of skiing at the Smugglers' Notch resort in northern VT. It was the wildest vacation I've ever been on. The conditions went from nirvana to mortal peril to redemption. Mostly due to the weather....rain early in the week followed by extremely cold temperatures so everything froze solid. People were getting hurt walking out of their condos and slipping on the ice let alone getting hurt on the slopes.

And of course, NJ gets a big snowstorm while we were away...classic...but it was nice to see snow on the ground the whole way home.

Now getting back to our cruise......Andrew is right about it being a big problem that the EB repo cruise is leaving the same day we are because you have all the passengers on the Magic wanting to book TWO weeks of excursions on the very same day that we can book our excursions.

I guess all we can do is be patient with jammed phone lines and crashing reservation systems if you try to book online.

And yes, I think this is the first time both ships are leaving on the same day.

Wow - we really are below the six month mark.....boy time is flying by. Absolutely I am more excited than the kids.

Kewlteacher.....welcome :welcome: We're from NJ as well.

Loved the conversation about kids starting middle school. Both of my kids are in middle school and our middle school starts in the 5th grade :scared: But the kids are more than ready for the transition from elementary school. We parents may think they are not ready but both my kids told me by their second day that they liked middle school way more than elementary school.

Its the whole changing of the classes and having a different teacher for every subject. It makes the day go by very, very quickly for them.

The only negative I've found is that communication between the teachers and the parents dropped to nothing because you don't have that single teacher to deal with anymore. You have to be way more proactive about initiating communication with the teachers.

Thanks Sea and Ski for the welcome! I thought I'd just add that as a middle school teacher, I find them to be funny as anything! 6th is all silly, and stillvery childlike, 7th is into hitting, running, and liking boys, and 8th..well..they are too KEWL for words! But as we say here, you either LOVE middle school, or hate it!

Has anyone ever did a count as to who is going on this voyage and the kids ages? I'd love to find some playmates for my two girls!

If you go back a couple of pages on this thread we had posts where everyone listed the ages of their kids.

There is a large group of 13-15 and a bunch of 10-12s and then a bunch younger than that.

My DD will be 12 on this cruise.

BTW....loved the descriptions of kids in middle school. I'd say that sums up our middle school perfectly.

I'm a Girl Scout leader and my troop is in the 6th grade.....those girls are still at the giggly stage...the only scary thing these days is that some of them have more cleavage than I have.

Has anyones teens done the "Wild Side" excursion? :confused3 I was going to bring it up to my sons, but thought I could get a little feedback first. The little I have read up on it, sounded pretty good. I don't really care what the boys do on CC, but I should give them the option. I know that one son wants to do the bottom fishing on one day as well.

It gets great reviews and I am signing up DS for that one. One time we were bike riding on CC and passed the teens doing the Wild Side excursion and they were allowed to go on the "restricted areas" of CC. No fair.

I'm told its a great way for all the teens to get to know one another.

We, too, want to do the bottom fishing excursion. Just not sure which CC day to do that.

Hello All..............it's been awhile since I last checked in.

I know what some of you are going through about school. My DS started HS this year. When I filled out the paperwork, I just burst into tears. Where did my little boy go? Time really flies. Luckily though, he tranistioned easily and is having a ball.

I think both of my children (13 & one month shy of 15) are going to do the Wild Side if they can do it the first CC day. My DS also wants to do the fishing again. He's done it with his dad and with me. He wants me to go again. Last summer was my first time fishing. The first thing I hooked was a shark. That was exciting. Sadly it broke the line and got away. He did catch a 3 foot barracuda. Now he wants to catch something bigger. I'm on the fence if I want to do this again?

myself39 dh38 dsturning13 on the cruise :cake: and dd10 we are on the late seating for dinner just wondering as this is our first cruise a bit confused about dress code i read somewhere that on certain nights men are required to wear jackets could anybody confirm this as we are flying from belfast 9 days in beach club 4 day cruise and then onto vero beach do not want to bring any unecessary items by the way staying in cat 5 room7562 thanking you in advance:banana: :woohoo:

My plan is to sign up DS for the Wild Side for the first CC day and then all of us do the fishing excursion on the second CC day.

Is the fishing excursion a morning or afternoon trip?

There is a "dress up" night but jackets aren't required. The idea is something a bit more than "cruise casual" but nothing like formal night that they have on the Magic.

DH will pack one of two things for dress up night. Either a navy blue blazer that he can pair with khaki pants or he has an off white silk jacket that he can wear with any kind of pants.

The great thing about the silk jacket is that it is lightweight and actually doesn't wrinkle very much.

Or your DH can wear a button down shirt (no tie needed) and get away without needing a jacket at all. He can pair that with any pair of pants and still look "dressy".
