8/17/2008 Double Dip 4-day Wonder

What video games does he like? My DD is 11 and plays lots of video games.

He plays just about anything! But we just got a Wii for Christmas so he likes most of the Mario games. He plays Guitar Hero and has a Club Penguin membership.

DH and I own a software company so he has spent all of his 11 years around lots of "big kids" playing video games. He wasn't allowed to play until a few years ago, but he sure caught on fast! :rotfl:

DS is very outgoing and social, but it can still be hard on a cruise without knowing anyone his age. He was only four on our last cruise so the kids club was just fine. These tween years are something else though.

Look forward to meeting everyone at the DISmeet.

DD plays the Mario games on Gamecube/DS/Wii. She plays Club Penguin though she just gave up her membership to be a member on GuildWars. I told her I'm not paying for two monthly memberships.

DD is very outgoing and social as well. She has as many male friends as female friends. She happily plays video games with her older brother's friends when they come over (it will be very interesting in our house when they are in the dating years).

DS will be in the teen club this cruise so DD will be by herself in the 10-12 group.

GuildWars sounds a lot like World of Warcraft. DS plays on DH's WoW account. I bet our kids will get along great. I'm feeling better about him making friends already. ::yes::

We are one big blurry eyed family this morning.

I honestly thought the Green Bay-Giants game was THE game to watch this season.

Boy, was I wrong.

I cannot imagine the disappointment felt by the Patriots fans this morning. To be oh.....so.........close.......

Back from our weekend at DLRP. Had a lot of fun, however it was freezing and very crowded. Can't wait till the next one! Have one week of vacations now. Still quite some work to do, but also some time for a bit of dreaming about our summer trip. :)

Seems like our weather is the flip-flop of yours. We're in a warm spell here on the East Coast US (out in the west its snowing heavily).

This morning was the big parade in lower Manhattan for the NY Giants (sorry Coach Rick). It was warm and the rain held off.

Glad you get to visit DLRP so often. Send some pixie dust our way.

Bumping us up because I think someone is looking for this thread.

And what is it with the never-ending viruses in my house. Sheesh. DS has spent the last two days home with the stomach flu. Enough already

I blame the see-saw weather we're having.

Hi everyone,
We've been doing a lot of shovelling lately; we had 3 storms in one day on Wednesday! My muscles are aching; I keep thinking about the beach at Castaway Cay while I'm pushing that shovel for the umpteenth time!

Cyndi, my DD will be 14 on the cruise and she loves guitar hero! She'll be thrilled to know that someone else on the cruise likes guitar hero too.

Ski-and-Sea, so sorry to hear about all the viruses! We have a lot of people sick with the same thing here (not in my house so far, thank goodness!) and it's probably due to the same seesaw weather we've been having too.

Willem, you're so lucky to go to DLRP so often!

Coach Rick, too bad about your football team.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

I know you have been getting dumped on because we leave for Smuggler's Notch in a week's time and they've gotten two feet of snow in the last four days.

The weather has been screwy - what happened to the winters of our childhood that were consistently cold?

It's true, the winters are so crazy now. We used to get a lot more snow when I was a kid and you're right, the temperatures were much more consistent. Now, with the temperatures going up and down, we see more of that wet snow or freezing rain, which I hate. When it's cold, at least the snow is lighter and it's not so bad to shovel. And these up and down temperatures do play havoc with your health!

I'm hoping to book my town car reservations for the cruise on the weekend. That'll just make everything seem that much closer!

I know that this has been asked before but I can't remember the answer. Re internet, what are the options available on the Wonder? Can the kids use their wireless internet on their laptops on the ship? Forgive me if I've used the wrong terminology; I'm a techno newbie for sure!

Have a good weekend!

I totally agree with the weather. Nothing worse then shoveling wet, heavy snow.

Yes, all the staterooms on the Wonder have WIFI access.

What towncar service are you using - I need to book that as well.

I'm thinking of going with Happy Limo; they have the lowest rates so far (not a lot of difference; only $5 but every little bit counts!). I would have gone with FloridaTours since they sponsor the DIS, but they don't take AMEX. And thanks for the info re the WIFI!

Coach Rick, we're going to be in stateroom 6576!!!! I pulled up the stateroom reports and saw your report from May 2007! I was so excited!!! And I was glad to see that you enjoyed your stay in that cabin.

Hey, that's me that was looking for this thread! Count us in too Me(41)
DH(39) DS(11) DS(8) Both of the boys are into video games big time, We went to the doctors yesterday for their yearly check up and the DR said they should only watch tv, play video, game boy ds for a total of 2 hours a day and they looked at each other like:scared1: :scared1: But what can I say they both are A students, Zac the oldest plays basketball and plays the drums and clarient in band and is in the chorus. Josh can't wait until he is in 3 grade to play basketball they both are good kids, plus it is COLD outside! I am a school bus driver for the elmentary school the same school the boys go too and also a Lunch lady for the high school,( I KNOW I'M CRAZY) my schedule works out great with the kids when they are off so am I. My DH works for his uncle who has a garbage business, what can I say it's always picking up:lmao:. Back to the cruise we are in cat 11 room # 6581. Our first cruise. :cool1:

Lisa,

What seating do you have, early or late?

Cyndi

We have Late, I don't know we are going to do that unless we have the kids eat early, I don't want to miss any shows! And at the pirate nite I think we will eat early and then go to the buffet?

Welcome Disneypartyof4.:welcome: Glad you found us.

Nice that there are some 11 y/o's on this cruise in addition to all the teens.

We have always had late seating. What we do is hit up Plutos/Pinocchio's for food around 5pm. That holds us over until dinner.

You will see the shows at 6pm. They last about 45 minutes. Then there are other onboard activities (like bingo) that you do until dinnertime.

My advice with Pirate Night dinner is tell your servers that you will skip dessert that night and head up to the party on deck 9.

Not a good day for us here......DS got really, really sick on Friday night so we took him to the emergency room this afternoon. He had been battling some kind of stomach bug for two weeks but then picked up something else and spent the entire night being sick (I'll leave out the gross details :crazy2: ) and that continued this morning.

I was worried he was dehydrated so off to the hospital. Doc gave him something to stop the vomitting and lots of pedialyte to rehydrate him. And then we go from there.

We got home from the hospital an hour ago and keeping fingers crossed he can keep liquids down.

DS is also feeling really bad because we were supposed to go skiing in PA today with DB and his kids and all the cousins were looking forward to that. :sad1:

Ski-and-Sea,

I'm so sorry to hear that your DS is sick.

Sending good thoughts your way... :grouphug:

Just tell him he is lucky he is getting this illness all out of the way so he is healthy for the cruise. I know, it won't help, but it may take his mind off of it for a minute or two.

Hang in there.

Cyndi

Thanks for the well wishes......DS is much better this morning. He's nibbling on crackers and holding down some liquids. Still feeling the effects of the dehydration so he still has headaches.

On Saturday we leave for a week of skiing in Vermont so he's got that incentive to get better.

I just learned there are two different strains of stomach flu going around and looks like DS got both one after the other.

(I could sure use a cruise right now ;) )

Oh, your going to like that stateroom. I am so glad a DIS friend will have it! ;)

My parents and BIL will be a couple of staterooms away from you.

Dad is doing better, and we have an appointment at the Leahy Clinic this week.

Thanks Coach Rick! And that's cool that your relatives will be so close to us! Glad to hear that your dad's doing better!

And Sea-and-Ski, hope your son is all better now too.

We've had a lot of snow and freezing rain in the last week or so, and everyone up here is sick of winter weather! I can't wait until we're on that ship!

Most of us had the day off today in Ontario because it's our first Family Day holiday. When our provincial government was elected last fall, the first thing they did was give us another long weekend. And boy, do we ever need it!

Hope everyone is doing well! Anyone going to watch the Oscars next week?
