8/17/2008 Double Dip 4-day Wonder

We had that kind of weather yesterday and today, it's back to being cold again! It's 10 degrees Celcius lower than yesterday!

I tried to make my ressies online but it told me that I had to wait until next week. Not sure why because I'm a Castaway Club member. I'm going to read all those posts re the timelines again just to make sure I'm not confused. And I'll probably call DCL tonight and do the ressies that way instead.

Hi Everyone,

We just booked this cruise have been looking online to see if anyone else is sailing with us.

Since this is my very first post on this website, I hope I am doing it o.k. I also hope I could find this threa again!!

We are really excited about this cruise. I think the entire ship is posting here.

Dawn

Welcome Dawn!! Yes - we certainly have an active bunch of cruisers.

By the way - i posted a question on the mail DCL board - I started a thread for returning double dippers. SO if you have questions - go ask tehre! Maybe we can collect some good info all in one place.

Lynda -

You should be able to book if you are a CC member. Did you book directly or through a travel agent? If a TA, maybe payment was not yet forwarded? Or maybe they don;t have you down as a CC member.

Hi Disnutz,

Is there a group get together with this board. I read a couple of pages so far and didn't see anything yet. It may take me to 8-17-08 to read the entire thread.

Dawn

We definately want to have one, we just have been slcking in the where and when details. I am sure as we get closer, we'll will come up with a time and place.

Coach Rick is working on some tshirts for ordering.

Who is going with you?

Hey Pixiedustdawn, welcome to the thread and glad to hear that you and your DD will be onboard with us! As disnutz said, we're definitely going to have a dismeet on the ship but just haven't gotten around to do any organizing. But we'll set something up soon.

Disnutz, I did book through a TA and he said that the payment went through and my balance shows as 0 online. But as you said, maybe the payment hasn't cleared through Disney yet, although my TA said that I could go ahead with the ressies. My profile and reservation have my Castaway Club membership number so that shouldn't be the issue. Oh well, I'll try and call tonight and see if I can straighten it out.

Lynda....that doesn't seem right that you can't book anything online. I would definitely call DCL on the phone.

Sounds like some lingering problems with everyone from the EB repo cruise trying to book excursions as well.

Welcome Pixiedustdawn.....my DD will be 12 on this cruise. Other than doing a DIS meet on the first day, we really don't have any other "group" things planned.

I do know that I am determined to go to the clubs after 10pm instead of heading off to bed like I usually do. I want to dance the night away with the CMs.

And maybe we can all meet at a specific location for the pirate party so we can all dance together.

Hi Lynda and Ski-and-Sea,

I am looking foward to meeting everyone onboard.

Is everyone on here doing two cruises?

We are just doing the one cruise, but going to Disneyworld too.

My daughter has an idea we are doing Disney, but I am going to suprise her with both the cruise and parks. I think I am more excited though.

Please count us in.

Hi Dawn,

We are only doing one cruise this year with a few days before and afterwards at WDW. I think there are only a few families doing B2B cruises.

I'm thinking about doing what you are doing next year, just my DD and me. The guys are going to New Mexico for 2 weeks, and won't have time to travel with us. And I have to watch our time since soccer tryouts are on the 15th of Aug. countywide. I'd rather travel on the 15th. So we booked a Western DCL cruise for next summer this evening before the fuel surcharge. We'll see if we keep it.
~~~~~~~
Rick....how is your DD doing in China?
Hi Dizzyworld,
We are doing the same. Park before and after. Which resort are you staying in. I had chosen Pop Century originally, but the Cruise line said they do not pick up from the values. We chose POFQ.
It is nice to be able to travel with my daughter, but it does have it's draw backs. When she is in the club, I sometimes find myself wandering aimlessly. Also, I really wanted to eat at Palo's and she can't come with me. So I would have to eat by myself. I am way too shy for that. Once she makes friends, I know I am out. I think it is the age?
I asked for a large table at dinner, so maybe I could meet other parents traveling alone with there children.
Well, I just realized your hotels are listed under your paragraph. (I am still trying to figure out how to get around this website, it is new to me.)
Those are great hotels and so close to the Magic kingdom. You are going to have a great time!!!
The Magic Kingdom would be the only park my daughter would want to go to. I love Epcot.
Well hold your hat partners, here we go - -
79 days!!!!!!:banana: :cool1: :worship:
I just can't believe it!!
So today's question - If you are flying in the day before, where are you staying? We are going to be at Universal for a few days, but are trying to figure out what to do the night before after the parks. here are the choices:
1. Switch to DTD hotel and shop a little and get something to eat.
2. Stay at a cheaper Universal hotel (on site hotels are pricey for Sat. night)
3. Drive to Cocoa and stay somewhere there. Radisson is pretty booked, so where is everyone else staying?
79 days! Eeeek!
Sorry I can't help you with the hotels ~ we're staying in the Beach Club at Disney as part of our Hotel-Hopping-Honeymoon!
Pixiedustdawn......There are too many hotels to pick from. I enjoyed my visit at the Poly last year. And my DH has been asking to stay at the Contemporary since 2000. When we decided to return to WDW after the cruise, that wasn't part of the original plan, I thought I'd cave in and book the CR. At least the decor is a lot better. I don't think my mind could have processed all those colors and designs in a room. Too much.
I've traveled to WDW a few times with only my DD. Based on past history, our breaking point on togetherness is 6 days, then we each need our own space. But next year she is going to be 14 when we go. I know she is going to bail on me, the question is when? I figure it will be after the muster drill. Doing a cruise alone (without DH and DS) will be such a new experience. Thank God for the Disboards.
I think that is fantastic you are staying so close to the Magic Kingdom and the monorail. I was going to do the Port Orleans French Quarter, front and back, but decided to do The Riverside on the front. We have never stayed at the Riverside before, so it will be new and fun for us.
I know what you mean about the girls getting to a certain age and then wanting to be on their own. My DD has already started. And she is only 11. Yikes :confused3
I made my reservations! I finally was able to call DCL last night and they hadn't checked off the box indicating that I'm a Castaway Club member and that's why I was getting blocked. And Coach Rick, I know what you meant when you said that it was hard to restrain yourself from making more ressies! I was so tempted to check off so many things! But in the end, I booked the parasailing for the kids and 2 spa treatments for myself. The spa treatments were definitely an indulgence..I wasn't going to book any but made the fatal mistake of checking them out and then I couldn't resist!
We're flying into Orlando on the Saturday and staying at the Pop Century. Then I've hired a Tiffany towncar to take us to the port. After the cruise, the towncar will take us back to WDW for 4 more days and we're staying at the Carribean Beach Resort (my DS's favourite). We've stayed at the Poly before and just loved it! The monorail is so convenient and fast! And we liked the decor because it felt so tropical and so different from the cold weather we have up here in Canada (well, not during the summer, but our summers seem so short). But the Contemporary looks good too and I see your point, Dizzyworld, about all the colours.
I love Caribbean beach too Lynda. We have stayed at Wilderness, Animal Kingdom, Caribbean, Pop Century and Port Orleans (before the name chang). The two favorites were Caribbean and Animal Kingdom (which I did not think I would like at all!). It was like truly being in another country.
We are not going to stay onsite or even hit the parks this trip because we will be going back in April for my DD dance trip. SO this is a Universal only trip.
Still undecided about hotels. is anyone staying by the port?
