Guess I will have to figure out a way to keep my account active. Better go over there. Does it start from now or if I have not had any activity over the last months is it retroactive?

Andrew: What a nice piece of art.:thumbsup2 Did they allow you to take any of the menus? Or do I dare say...........Take what you can?

Okay I wasn't going to post until I actually booked this cruise, but I already feel like I am left out & far behind everyone else! The prices are scaring me, but the more DH & I talk about it...the more we really want to do this. Hopefully me, DH, DD 14, & DS 11 will be joining you all! Hi to some old friends & I can't wait to get to know some new ones! :wave2:
:wave2: Diane: Great to see you posting here.............Hope your family can come on this cruise.:goodvibes

OK... FALSE ALARM.....

Yeah... they changed the rules to drop the length of time inactive accounts can "bank" their miles from 2 years (or longer?) to 18 months. That does not really effect me or most people in my opinion. Under the new rules - within a year and a half you need to do one of the following:

  • fly on United or one of its 28 airline partners
  • use or sign-up for a Mileage Plus Visa credit or debit card
  • purchase products or services from more than 100 travel and retail partners
  • use miles by taking a trip to one of the 841 destinations United and its partners serve
  • use miles for merchandise, hotel stays and dining
  • transfer miles to another Mileage Plus member
  • donate miles to the Mileage Plus Charity Miles program

Essentially - all you have to do is earn some miles by doing something once every 18 months and your miles remain active. I rarely fly anyone else so the miles I have banked at American Airlines require the same thing of me - that I earn a few AA miles every couple of years to keep 'em active. The real loss is that UA miles expire faster then some of their competitors ... like AA. However, as I understand it the flight credits with UA do last much longer then some airlines (like SW and ATA or those low cost airlines - unless I am mistaken as I did not check them before posting this). Actually, the FF miles on UA, AA and other regular airlines can last indefinately so long as you remain an active patron in some way once every 18-24 months.

And for what it's worth - I thought it was charming how UA justified their reduction in benefit avlue to us all by saying:

This assumes UA will not reduce the number of available SAVER award seats on any of it's routes. Or, that they will not increase the number of miles needed to redeem any awards. Of course, any changes later are entirely seperate events completely seperate from the changes on the 18th. NOW = to be perfectly fair they should allow our miles to be grandfathered "value terms" based on the rules that were in effect when we earned them! Oh well... I guess they would probably something like - "Now... THAT wouldn't be any FUN now would it?"!

OK... now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

Thanks after I saw the intial post :scared1: my DH just switched a couple of weeks ago to United. The difference is he travels every week so he should be o.k We are hoping to earn miles to use for LA.

Captain Crash--
You said what my DH said precisely---
They should grandfather those miles in under the fact they were earned under different rules.

I am sorry for taking away all the topics. How about a new topic???????????

Lets give interesting ideas of things we can find to do in Cartagena.

:wave2: o.k I will admit it..........My DD and I rented Romancing The Stone this past weekend. First time we rented a movie not to really see the movie but the background.:rotfl: We enjoyed it and gave us lots to talk about afterall I could barely remember the movie since it came out in 1984.

We also learned the correct way to pronounce Cartagena. :thumbsup2 My DD was excited till she heard the line in the movie " They have insects the size of buses. " :rotfl:

Okay....maybe I shouldn't admit this......I have a request in with IC for any DCL sailing (any date) to Alaska.......

I redceived a DCL mailing today about the Magic going to the West Coast in 2008, did anyone else receive one in the mail? :upsidedow

It only talks about the west coast cruises, doesn't mention anything about the PC repo sailings.
Yeah, got one of their big trifold postcards advertizing the "West coaster."
What cracked me up was the doctored photo of the Magic sailing past a beach front Disneyland!

Sk8ingmom, you crack me up! Start the inagural sailing thread now!:lmao:
But the story about your DH was fascinating! Bet things are slightly saver in Alaska? Well, except for the sea rescues of those rogue fishermen.::cop: :boat:
I agree that the only way we'll get off the ship in Colombia is in a well escorted group thing!
Marcy

Hazel came to pick me up after work today and guess what, it started snowing again. OK, I shouldn't complain as this is the first real snow we've had all winter, but one snow flurry to me, is one too much. I had three bad slips on the ice and snow in 2003, 2004 and 2005, causing me to have knee surgeries in 2004 and 2005, thank goodness I got through 2006 without any problem, hoping that 2007 is good to me as well!!! :rotfl:

I keep saying, "I love my job, I love my job, I love my job!!!"

It at least started to be a mild winter huh? It's snowing here also. You need to pamper that knee and Andy retirement isn't that far off...........:wizard:

Oh Lordy, don't let Angelina hear that, please!!!

I was chased by a "pig bug" in New Orleans when I was about Angelina's age...and I would swear that I could have put a saddle on it and ridden it...if I hadn't been running the other way!!!
:scared1:

Ha! My DH was quick to correct my pronunciation of Cartagena too... for all, it': Car-ta-heyn-ya.
Is that what others thought too?

Add me to that list!!!

Besides the Panama Canal, Alaska is also on my list of places I'd like to cruise.

It looked like the biggest beetle that I'd ever laid eyes on. When my dad went to the front desk to tell them, they just said "oh, well, now...that's just a little old pig bug....." <insert southern accent there>
