We're planning on flying in the Thursday before and doing Legoland on Friday and DL on Saturday. If I take off anymore time than that my boss is likely to end up in a psych ward, especially as I'll be incommunicado for the majority of the trip.

I've not done Legoland in CA, but we did the one in Windsor in '02 and it was awesome! In addition to rides, they had the most amazing displays built entirely of legos. My then 9 & 11 yo boys were even interested in them!

Before the cruise my husband has it in his head that it would be cheaper to fly to Las Vegas and rent a car and drive to the port. My sister may be changing jobs, so she probably won't be able to take a lot of time off before the cruise and we won't leave any earlier than that Friday night.

Every year for the past 12-15 years I've put together groups of friends, family and neighbors together for outings at the Hollywood Bowl. We gather (12 - 60 folks) for dinner with either catered food or pot luck before hand then enjoied a concert in the Bowl. Obviously with a DIS group we'd do a catered meal. We often sit together but that is not a requirement as our group seats can easily be split... and as a group subscriber for over a decade I get the 1st distribution on schedule for the next year... well before it is published and ofetn an incomplete schedule as they offer us what they have as soon as it formulates.

So... I was thinking I could take an interest list on folks interested in hanging out in the hollywood area for the afternoon... followed by most likely a catered picnic ($8-12 per adult, $4-6 per child age 3-12 is sufficient) at the Hollywood Bowl. Generally I suggest a couple different types of cuisine and the group VOTES on what they want in advance. Then we go in for a concert. The committments would come in January and the pricing on seats would range from as low as $6 in the back up to $110 if anyone wanted box seats. I've had everything from the back to the garden boxes and I'm happy anywhere. However, I must confess that with kids we tend to sit futhest to the front or back... as the folks in the middle are slightly more stuffy with potential disturbances from the youngsters.

August is generally near the end of the season - and fireworks at the bowl are common on 1/3rd of the weekend evenings.

So... then it is parking and a show that runs til typically 10:30 and out by 11pm. Not sure if we'd do a friday or saturday... seein' as we sail on sunday (am I right?). I think a friday would be better even though some folks may have to contend with traffic. I would have to dream up a "recommended list of proper diversions for concert-goers so they do not get entangled in LA traffic snafus. IE... I would draw up hang out points and times to be here or there - so as to enable making the dinner and show on time. OR... we might do something else for supper.

I guess this is something we'll have to add into the list of DIS diversions precruise... Anyone who has any interest should PM me so I can plan on it... like I'm gonna be rushed if I don't hear from folks soon, eh?

CC, That sounds very interesting and looks like a lot of fun. I would like to know some add. info later about it. We had serioulsy wanted to add a week in CA. this July on our return from Hawaii, there is so much there that I want to see. But it is so hard in the middle of summer to take a really extended vacation. Our 2 weeks in Hawaii is already really pushing it.

Hi Everyone,
The rain stopped and it was a beautiful day here in So. Cal - I'm pulling out my roller blades and skating on the strand tomorrow - BTW for those who haven't been here "the strand" is a paved walkway adjacent to the beach - in the Santa Monica area the path actually runs through the middle of the beach.
Chris

Chris, that sounds like so much fun. have a great time.

Judy went and got all informative on us earlier this week and posted all sorts of nifty information about two of the ports. This made me realized that I have added absolutely no useful information during the first 31,000+ posts on this thread.

So I thought to myself, "Self, you need to go out and find some useful information to share with your fellow pirates."

After conducting in-depth research, I am pleased to present to you, without further delay . . .

Well Gooood Mornin' Everyone and Happy Saturday!!!!

Unfortunately I have alot of chores today but I wanted to pop in and say Hi!

We had a really fun time in chat last night. You guys who are around 9pm at Fridays should join in. Where here on our thread you need to be a speed reader, on chat, you need to be a speed reader and speed writer!

It's cool to speak with everyone in real time though (especially those like me who always seem to be trying to ketchup)

Have a great day all and I'll see you later....

:bday: Carl!!!!! Hope you day's a great one!!!

Yeah...

... I shared BIPs comments on this HPV vaccine... and even though she is in the pharmaceuticals industry the first thing she breathed was that this sort of vaccine should be a CHOICE and not necessarily a mandated item. Without going into all the details ... we tend to side with the opinions we've encuntered which disagree with the Government agendas emerging in support of this becoming a mandated vaccine. And may I add that your discovery of these $5000 donations coinciding with movement in govenment favoring HPV smacks with a slick stink of foul gas. TO think they were influenced by such a small sum is NOT my issue... rather the idea that they take ANY money at all is offensive when it involves our children. In effect... these in government have sold our childrens' and families' choice in the matter for a relative pittance.

If I were in the state where this happened I would be severely outraged. I am sorry to see this sort of developement come to pass. I hope it does not become a similar issue in California - as if it did I wonder what I would do to exercise my discontent. :confused3

although i agree the govt should not be involved. everyone here sound like responsible parents however we live in a sick world in the philly area a daycare recently got shut down for child pornography on victim was a young a 3 mts old!!!! im lucky enough to have a friend watch my children on the days after i work night shift. but our precious children are being abducted in broud daylight

You sound so busy, can you run some off for me with the Med, only joking maybe it will be

Sorry I missed you all in chat last night. I was there for a little bit, but had to get back to housework. I'm having a Stampin' UP! party today, and a bunch of the ladies have never been to my house before. Of course that means that I need to make my house more presentable than usual. ;)

Not quite Andrew, sounds a little POSH to me, LOL!!! :rotfl2:

Well, I just finished printing off 16 iron-on transfers, I have 8 t-shirts and 6 pillowcases to make this morning for a fellow DIS'er. Will check back later!!!

I have the house to myself this morning as Angelina had the school musical practice, and Hazel has a talent show that she has to set up for at the church, so it's time to get my project done while I don't have anyone getting in my way.........:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Andy, I didn't know you made t-****s? What are you doing to the pillow cases?

party:Happy Birthday party:
Carl

Thanks for the birthday greetings. After some family members come by for a birthday lunch, we'll be heading off to my favorite local hotel, the Grand Californian, for the weekend at my favorite place. Hope all of you have a nice weekend, too.

What's a Stampin' Up party?

Looks like I just missed the sprint ... DRAT!... and I was responding here originally opening by saying I was wanting to pose the question below if I could stay up a little longer and then... BONK... I fell asleep by the keyboard ... again.

So, has anyone gotten a solar power array for their home? My spouse got the idea that we might do it... however I'm looking for someone other then the salesmen to speak to ask opinions of and so on.

We figure it might be a 2.47 kw system for $6290 + installation or a 2.80 kw system for 9,468 + installation with an under utilized inverter which allows for future expandability up to 4.29 kw without buying another inverter. The smaller 2.47 kw system seems like an easy consideration as we think it will save about $70-120 a month. At that rate the recovery period including installation costs should be about 102 months or 8.5 years. Inflation adjusting or modifying for time value is offset by power rate increase savings which are assumed to flex with inflation and yield changes. And, of course... this assumes zero maintenance costs for at least the next 8.5 years. Afer that period we experience about $95 a month in savings at the current 2007 kw hour cost.

One of the things that I wonder about is that my Dads' mortgage on his 1st house in 1965 cost $151 a month.... and 40 years later today my monthly power bill is about $80-140 a month. I think nothing or it ... but my Dad sees it from a different perspective. So does this mean that 40 years into the future my power bill will approach what I'm paying for my mortgage today? Maybe so, eh? And if so... then a small expenditure today for a photovaltaic power system might pay a fair return over 30-40 years IF it is relatively maintenance free for at least 17-25 years I'll probably be satisfied... In thoery solar cells will last much longer than 25 years. Really - the weakest temporal link will be the limiting factor. I just don't know what those weak links are.... but I figure I can always change or repair what-ever nees adjusting in the future. If the costs are not too bad or insulting.

Anyone considered doing this - or done it yet?
