The one thing that I don't like about the school I want to send the kids to next year is that they have uniforms. I have a wardrobe for both of them packed up for the next 3+ sizes from clearance sales and hand me downs from friends. Very inexpensive. It is going to cost a lot for us to keep them in nice and clean uniforms. DD will put holes in her pants all the time. That is small compared to the problems at their current school though.

Does the school require you to buy from the uniform company, or are you able to buy items anywhere (such as navy pants, but no brand specified)?

Our school requires that the pants, shorts, jumpers, skirts, ties and embroidered polo shirts (spring/fall only) come from the uniform company. Gym shirts & sweatshirts are from the gym uniform company. For those items the school has a used uniform shop. Jumpers are $5, as are the pants if I am lucky enough to find some that aren't worn in the knees. I did end up buying new uniform pants for DS but the jumpers look like a good value for DD for next year. I'll buy her white shirts (for under the jumpers) as I see them on clearance this year. At least we knew the uniform requirement early enough that I can limit my buying ahead on clearance to just what we need for after school & weekends.

Hopefully, if you only need to follow color guidelines you'll be able to find good sales for what you need.

So - what amounts to a "fluff" post? I would like to acknowledge that if we toned it down a bit then we might have a better flow here - and it would make for a better community over the next 18 months. I actually decided this past weekend to lay off a bit - as I was getting overtaken in total count - and it just wouldn't end until someone gave in - so I decided to lay off and revert to quality in my posts. Hence I have dropped to maybe a dozen or so a day in the past couple of days. And my posts had one lengthy or time consumptive one a day - generally. The recoloring of the Captains' R/C plane took me a while to make - and the travel idea by Train a couple days ago took me a while to create too.

So - maybe we should knock off the sprint to 20,000. We know what is possible if we get enuf of us into a silly "spreading" mood. And that is not very attractive to new folks looking in on our community here.

With that in mind - I'm going to drop a couple notches in intensity - and resume the posture I took a couple days ago. No "fluff"... just real replies where I feel they are warrrented. 'K?

Fluff was not in reference to any of your posts. Fluff posts mean things like posting only and "did I get it?" etc =nothing posted except to raise the post count and cause others to have to scroll past those and have more pages to try to catch up on. This was discussed the other day by others. I just use the words "fluff posts" to refer to what had been discussed. Basically what had been said is the same thing you said in your post here. And I have to admit- it has been easier to catch up and I've learned a lot more valuable information for this cruise the past few days than the past couple of weeks combined, now that we're not to just make rushes for minis and such anymore.

My DDs school also asks that we use 'their' uniform company. At $48 per jiumper, I think not! There's another supplier, www.frenchtoast.com that offers the same exact uniform at almost half the price. Maybe it can help you???

Even though DS's fever is down, I think I will keep him home again tomorrow, because he is really stuffed up & coughing now. I read that the thing to watch for with the flu, is that it doesn't turn into an upper respiratory infection so I'd rather he stay home & rest.

Hope your DD is better too MR & anybody else who has sick kids. Tis the season I guess.

Gotta leave the board for a while kids. Need to shovel the 1-2" of snow that fell after I cleared the drive this morning. This is so I can shovel again after the 4 more will fall tomorrow afternoon. (I don't like it when there are tire lines on the drive - packed snow) I'm anal in that respect.

Thanks Diane and your son too! My DD started about 10 days as a run of the mill head cold/sore throat/headache and just when those symptoms seems to be passing Boom high fever/cough/body aches. I just saw a report yesterday that said an upper respiratory infection is above the neck (obviously) and when that goes to a cough with fever and body aches that that is how they decide it's the flu. I learned something new yesterday, and put it to immediate use today. Wish I didn't have to, but it made me bring DD to Dr. pronto!

Thanks for the suggestion. They don't carry the plaid or the style that we need for the jumpers, but I'll have to check out their prices for accessories like the white shirts for both kids.

Lisa--Hopefully the site will help you. I've also seen clearance uniforms at places like Walmart, Target & online at JCP.
