Hey BBB - DL is about 45-1 hr depending on traffic - Saturdays are usually ok . Long Beach has some pretty hotels and some smaller ones but they can get expensive as they've been pushing for revitalization the last few years.

As for me - The 'closest' hotel is actually The Grand Californian - its very similar to the Wilderness Lodge in WDW - same idea - the newest and most expensive and abutts CA Adventure. We love staying there as its closer to walk to the parks. The Paradise Pier and Disneyland Hotel are just maybe 3-5 minutes away from Grand CA - and that's walking time BTW. Love the ambiance of Grand CA, DisneyHotel is the original but for me - its sorta spread out and kinda 'cold' but beautiful. Paradise Pier is the oldest but can sleep 5. Not as expensive as the others and but a little older.

DOn't know if this helps but if you have any other ?'s Don't hesitate to ask :cutie:

Thanks to everyone for the info!
That is good to know- especially about the PP sleeping 5, because we are a family of 5 and I would prefer not having to get 2 rooms. Kinda interesting that it's the oldest and least expensive yet sleeps 5? Wish WDW resorts would get on the ball with that. (I guess they have with the all star suites, finally)
So if we stayed at PP until Saturday... I wonder what kind of transportation we could get to the port? We are NOT planning on renting a vehicle and driving to the port ourselves. DH already veto'd that idea. :confused3

: (especially because if no more runs for minis, 10k's wouldn't happen nearly as often)

We honestly didn't worry about anything other than the 1000s on our last thread and that one is past 70K and still going. All of the attempts at pirates for the 100s and the talk about them does seem to take up 40% of the posts. Maybe I notice that more when I am behind & trying to catch up the summaries. There are going to be a lot of posts here just because there are a ton of us on the cruise & we are getting to know each other & plan our trip. :confused3

Thanks for the info, Paula!

I don't know what you mean by checking in for the cruise quite a few times?

I think it was at the GC they had the DCL booth set up, where they went over your transfers and I believe they checked over all of our documents. It is probably not so much an issue with the on-line check-in now. But whenever we have stayed at the Hyatt before a cruise DCL always has a fairly time consuming check-in before the buses wisk us away to port. It was nice not to have to go through that in Cal.

What I mean is you wouldnt want 2 Barbossa's cause he only wears one outfit ....Like I said there are many of Characters at different stages of the Movie's , which leaves alot of outfits ....Everyone can Particpate by dressing up as a PIRATE ..duh ... Those that are really into like me and our up for the challenge of doing a detailed costume and want to do a POTC Character are the ones I was refering to ...If you come to the Pirate Party with a scarf and a Patch on to me Thats GREAT , your getting involved ..I am sure we will have Plenty of Wenches and Pirates ...I was speaking to the few not the masses as you implied by saying "300+ Characters " ....But as much as a POTC GEEK , I could probably come up with them....lol

pirate:
We will definetly fit into the 2nd cat. We will just wear our Goofy and Mickey pirate ears.

I can't believe that I am still awake!!! Off to bed but just wanted to say that my DH is the sweetest!!! They took me out for dinner tonight & gave me a GC to a nice day spa here. :) It is going to be rough getting the kids to CCD in time tomorrow...well later this morning. Night all! :)

Okay, I think I know what you mean now.
I wasn't really thinking of the men's costumes but rather like say if more than one person wanted to wear ES (same type- gold, plum, etc.) dress, that would be duplicating so not allowed? That's what I was thinking you meant.

I'm still not sure if we'll be participating much but if we do, I just didn't want to get in "trouble" for duplicating someone or upsetting them or something. I gotcha now. :)

Wow , are you missing the point here or what ...there is no in "TROUBLE" it doesnt matter to me if someone wants to wear the same dress as ES again I am talking to the few that want to go all out in get into detail like me ...If people want to Dress up as CJS please do so ...I do it cause I enjoy it , and if others want to enjoy it as well , I would never say "your in Trouble" cause you wore something like me ...I dont have the Staple on CJS at all nor would I ever say , you cant wear that cause I am ..please ... All I am trying to say is there are people like me that actually get into the Characters ...I dont just wear the costume I try to become the Character ...call me wierd but thats just me ...

Plus our normal attire.......didn't mean to imply only the ears. This is a family cruise.

I am not in disagreement with you. I just have a hard time taking the side of complaining about runs for minis when I participated in them so much in the past. KWIM?
I do notice it probably as much as you do, when trying to catch up. :)

To be honest, I only joined in because everyone else did. I'm not truly fond of trying for ANY specific post, but when everyone else is doing it, it's mentioned in the summaries, you're considered a pirate if you get a 000 post, etc.- it was hard to NOT join in with it. I'd prefer we didn't make runs for ANY specific numbers and just call us all pirates. :)

I really enjoyed the PP. Our room was huge and very nice. We used DCL transfers to the port. With your 5 it may be cheaper to rent a car. we didn't rent a car while there, it seems that you had to pay additional for parking. And unlike WDW, DL is an easy walk to everything that we did.

Neah , Never thought you just ment the ears ....though it would have been the talk of the cruise ...

No, I understand what you mean. I just didn't type it the way I meant or come across the way I meant... I don't think.
I didn't mean like really in trouble! I meant like possibly upsetting someone else- because if it didn't matter... then why make a list in the first place? What's the list for if not to make sure there aren't duplicates (like was mentioned before I started asking about this, Lisa brought up the fact someone else was looking at a specific costume and mentioned making a list so we wouldn't duplicate it)? If it doesn't matter and no one is going to be upset- then why make a list? I guess that's where my confusion is.

I totally get what you mean about those dressing up to "become" the character- I dig that and I think it's very cool. I'm personally just too darn cheap to do that with our family. :rotfl: I think my dh would make a handsome CJS (and he's got the hair color, skin color, etc. already and could grow the goatee for real in a couple weeks tops- and it wouldn't be the first time he's grown his hair long although I like to forget those years many years ago... LOL) but like I said... I'm too cheap to go for the elaborate costumes. I do get what you're saying though. :)

DH doesn't want to bother with renting a vehicle, trying to find our own way to the port, etc. He's veto'd that idea and sometimes I like to let him have his way... :lmao:
The last few trips to WDW and the cruise we went with a limo service. Just not sure if they have such transportation choices at DL since it's not the "norm" for the cruises there/going to port and all that.

Thanks again for the info about the room. We really wouldn't even care if we were cramped up.. if they just ALLOW 5 in the room, we're cool with it. :)

:woohoo:
I'm so glad you had a great birthday today!

But let's not talk about this anymore, let's talk shirt colors.
:lmao:

Kidding.

On a serious note... which do you all think would be better, if we plan on going to DL for a day or two before the cruise... staying on DL property then going to the port on embarkation day or staying on DL property until the night before cruise then staying somewhere closer to the port? I'm not sure of the logistics of how far away DL is from the port to know if it would be worth the effort to stay somewhere closer to the port the night before, or not.

And another question, one that I could probably research on my own but interested in those with experience.. if you were going to DL before the cruise and anticipated this would be the ONLY time you go to DL, which resort would you stay at?

I can't remember exactly how far to the pier, but it's not bad, I wouldn't change hotels just for that night.

Now I know many people say that the Grand Californian is the best, but honestly I prefer the Disneyland Hotel. It's more Disney than GC and has a great Neverland themed pool.

Keep in mind DL is way different than WDW. You can walk to all hotels and both parks. And staying on property is not as necessary and does not carry the same perks. Unless I get a really great deal onsite, I'm usually staying offsite, right across the street from the main gates.

Paula

So if you're not renting a vehicle, I guess going with DCL transfer is the way to go? I wonder if they'd take us from airport to DL, DL to port, and port to airport after the cruise?

I am sure that there are plenty of car services in the area.
