I can't remember exactly how far to the pier, but it's not bad, I wouldn't change hotels just for that night.

Now I know many people say that the Grand Californian is the best, but honestly I prefer the Disneyland Hotel. It's more Disney than GC and has a great Neverland themed pool.

Keep in mind DL is way different than WDW. You can walk to all hotels and both parks. And staying on property is not as necessary and does not carry the same perks. Unless I get a really great deal onsite, I'm usually staying offsite, right across the street from the main gates.

That's something I'm keeping in mind- we might prefer to go "cheapest" rather than "onsite" because of the reasons you said. But it would have to be close enough to walk, with our kids, because we aren't taking a vehicle or renting one and the offset of the price wouldn't be worth it if it took forever to walk there or we had to pay for taxis or what have you. Plus we'd also have to stay somewhere that allowed 5 in the room.

That is how our transfers worked in 05. I really don't think they were anymore than a normal cruise, but last time we booked our air through DCL also. They were also doing the Magical Express service at DL also--but I think they charge for that now, but I am not sure.

We will definetly fit into the 2nd cat. We will just wear our Goofy and Mickey pirate ears.
Paula
We probably will too.
But ya never know. If we have a good year and can afford the extra cost AND I lose the weight so I don't mind bringing a little attention to myself (LOL) we might end up splurging for costumes. Doubtful, but possible.

I am not in disagreement with you. I just have a hard time taking the side of complaining about runs for minis when I participated in them so much in the past. KWIM?
I do notice it probably as much as you do, when trying to catch up. :)

To be honest, I only joined in because everyone else did. I'm not truly fond of trying for ANY specific post, but when everyone else is doing it, it's mentioned in the summaries, you're considered a pirate if you get a 000 post, etc.- it was hard to NOT join in with it. I'd prefer we didn't make runs for ANY specific numbers and just call us all pirates. :)

A List would be nice to see who would like to do what Characters , It also helps me remember whos doing who as well so when I get new and Updated Photos and detail information I can share it with that person as opposed to Posting on the Board I can go directly to them ...Also a List would be good for Newbies who would like to get into the detailed part of it and play a certain Character ....If we have more then one person wanting to do a certain character so be it ....This is supposed to be fun ...Its a cruise of a lifetime ...

no one can duplicate?
Are there 300+ characters so everyone can participate? I assumed we'd have many duplicates... maybe not of CJS because no one can compare to THAT costume but all these wenches- what are we supposed to do if we can't duplicate characters?

Not everyone is going to go all out and recreate a costume. We'll be fine.
Even if all the wenches wanted corsets and skirts like on the wench website, that's fine cuz they're not actually a character's costume.

I thought that Lisa had someone looking into renting our own buses from DL to port. I guess it will be determined on how many people end up staying and DL, but it might be cheaper. I am only offering comment on this since I will be driving from home or something like supershuttle.

Our family has pirate costumes already and we will be wearing those. No need to dress up like one of the characters. Its just about looking like pirates. pirate:

Thanks to everyone for the info!
That is good to know- especially about the PP sleeping 5, because we are a family of 5 and I would prefer not having to get 2 rooms. Kinda interesting that it's the oldest and least expensive yet sleeps 5? Wish WDW resorts would get on the ball with that. (I guess they have with the all star suites, finally)
So if we stayed at PP until Saturday... I wonder what kind of transportation we could get to the port? We are NOT planning on renting a vehicle and driving to the port ourselves. DH already veto'd that idea. :confused3

There will be many of us at DL before the cruise. We are going to see about charter busses to take us all to the port. I think that was either Judy or M.

I really hope this doesn't come across the wrong way but I feel like I responded to posts here and then all the sudden I'm told that's not what was said or what was meant. So I feel I need to remind you what was said- which is why I asked if we can't duplicate. Let's see... first Lisa
Someone else is talking about this same costume. You guys might want to check with each other so you aren't duplicating them.

Todd, send me the list for those who have signed up for roles so that I can post them in the first post & prevent some confusion please.

Notice about someone else is talking about the same costume and might want to check so you aren't duplicating them.
Then you responded:

A list so you will make sure no one is doing the same thing.

When I respond asking why can't we duplicate.. then I get responses like I made that up out of thin air and ofcourse we can duplicate/etc.

:confused3
surely you can see now that my question about it being okay to duplicate costumes/pirate garb did not come out of the clear blue. I was responding to what was posted.

Many of my 'preferred' hotels are actually a shorter walk to the main gates than either the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier. Some allow 5 in a regular room but most have really reasonable rates for suites.

My personal list (these are the only hotels I consider staying at)

Carousell Inn
Best Western Park Place Inn
Dessert Inn and Suites
Tropicana Inn
Camelot Inn
Howard Johnsons (this is the farthest but still not any farther than the DLH)

Well that does sound great. But we'd still have the matter of getting from airport to DL, then port to airport. I will keep my ears and eyes open for all the info on what everyone is doing for transportation. Thanks!

Wow, that really is a lot of close by hotels. I will definitely check into those. Thanks again for the help!

That's not even a full list. Those are just the ones I check into when I'm planning a trip. There's others that would be maybe a 15 min walk instead of 10-15, but with so many choices why increase your walk time?? Oh and all these hotels offer a free continental breakfast. Yes it's minimal but toast, fruit and coffee and I'm good to go in the morning.

And forgot one other that gets really great reviews, the Candy Cane Inn. I've not stayed there, but I have yet to see a bad review of it. It's a little farther, maybe 20 min walk, but they have their own shuttle every 30 min AND an expanded breakfast.

OK -I've got 2 000pirate:'s
I don't think I ever got a mini.

But I'm also going to be MIA for a while in March and most of this summer, so I figured I should get my pirate: in early.

Continental breakfast sounds great to me. We don't often eat big breakfasts, especially when going to the parks. Even on the cruise we only ate breakfast ONCE at the restaurants (and it wasn't even the character breakfast)- we usually just ordered from the limited breakfast room service menu. I guess we're not big breakfast eaters- or we're lazy when on vacation. one or the other. LOL

Most of the summer MIA? Pray tell why? :(
