Great IDEA Terri! However... how shall we proceed? I could offer to set up a series of upload albums which would be password protected and closed to the public. I could allow you access to my account for pick and choose - and downloading. However, I would be reluctant to allow general public access. Doing so would involve zero cost to everyone to contribute images. Here's a test album I set up for uploading only... itcurrently has ONE image which I uploaded. Does anyone want to try iuploading? If so ... then pay attention to activiate the UPLOAD TOOL so you can select images in mass to manipulate and up-load. And, of course, for testing purposes you need not upload in mass - only activate the tool to see how it works for you. Here is the link to the test album... ttp://www.dotphoto.com/Go.asp?l=nma4cnc&P=TOAL&AID=5070349&T=1

Well.... Although this would be OK to UPload to ... I think for many of us to DOWNLOAD pictures in MASS would be pretty clumbersome. Even with a high speed line I've found the download rates to be maddening when dealing with more then a few hundred... let alone the 1000s I would expect from a dozen or more contributors from among the 500 or so neighbors gathered.

That said... this is a BIG PROJECT ... one worthy of not a CD for reproduction and sharing... rather I would expect a DVD to be needed - depending on how agressively we cull images for general circulation.

I think it would be best to offer a CD or DVD after Terri chops and edits it. And if the job is too big to manage Terri I would be happy to help with some of the load. I would have no problem sharing - burning and sending out. It would help if we had Self addressed mailers from those interested in receiving a DVD though. I need nothing for materials. And I know... there are still a few folks waiting for a CD or DVD from me now.... Lil' G and Tracy... I have not forgotten. I've just been off balance and shall get to it soon. Those images from the 11 niter need a look before I brun and circulate - and I had a hard drive problem which I resolved a couple months back.

At any rate... if I set up an album... I can set up sub albums for each day of the cruise for folks to upload to. My account is a "resellers" account with NO SPECIFIED storage limit. IE, I have unlimited capacity at the site - however, in thoery I could be asked to limit my use of capacity someday.

As previously stated... I have an account with unlimited capaicity... however, as a group we need to decide how we want to use this community photo site. My current impression was that Terri would collect and cull images from all contributors - then offer a DVD or CD for folks. I would be happy to assist if necessary. I recommend we have folks interested in receiving a DVD or CD - submit SASE mailers. The post office has free Priority mail packages for free - just add postage. This sounds perfect and is the step I would find burdonsome. Selecting and buring to CD or DVD is not a problem for me - and I would be OK to donate the media and time. Or Terri, if you feel we should charge a token fee for materials that's fine too.... i figure each DVD is perhaps $0.25? I dunno anymore... I got a couple DVDR spindles for near nothing - so I could handle 50 or 100 easy. WOW.... what am I saying.... to burn 50 DVDs would take a while... whew!

Wow! Lots of good ideas on this photosharing concept.

I would suggest that we don't use anyones "personal" account for this. If there was some sort of TOS violation (that's the Terms of Service that you agree to without reading everytime) I would hate to see someone lose any personal storage.

I, personally, would vote for both methods, a CD/DVD and a sharing site. I think the CD/DVD option is important for some of the more technologically challenged among us.

There are a lot of good sites for this kind of stuff and most will give you an address to send photos from your webcam to the sharing site. This address also works from an e-mail client. So you could send an e-mail to the address and the photos get saved to the account. Hence (very lawyerly word...LOL) there would be no need to share the password.

The main question would be whether the site allows full size downloads to anyone without the username/password combo. Some sites like Flickr ($25)and Smugmug ($40)do. The other issues would be maximum file size (key for printing photos) and overall storage limits.

The really cool thing about this is we don't need to decide until July or August.

I will try to put together a comparison chart of the various services Photobucket, Flickr, Smugmug, Dotphoto, etc. and we can banter it about some.

Terri, do you have the capability of doing DVD burns if the size exceeds CD capacity?

Guess its time to watch the clearance rack at Target for DVD and CDs....

The person heading up the task weight everything and figured what postage would be.

Summer is not too bad for me so if no one has offered to head this up, I'm willing (as long as I don't need to do anything until the end of Feburary :lmao: ).
Tracy

I'd be willing to chip in to and it could be our part of the fish extender gifts...(a little early of course)

One thing to think about - do they have child sizes? When I ordered these for the boys (with our cell phone numbers on them) I made sure to get child sizes. The adult size ones simply fall off their little wrists.

For the ones i had last year, we we did the following:
(Keep in mind though that before we ordered anything, we would need to know how large they were. I'd hate to have 500 little kids size; ie too small for adults)

(NOTE: this was the sizes that we had in our custom ones. THe comments below that are from a fellow cruiser of mine. Thanks K.)

Sizes:
Childs 6 inches
Medium 7.5 inches
Large 8.25 inches

On my wrist, and keep in mind here that I am 5'9" and wear a size 10 shoe, the medium is loose around my wrist. Not a lot, but not at all tight. They are NOT very stretchy. Keep in mind that they have to get over your hand and I cannot even come close on the kid size. If you cannot get that size over your hand without stretching, pick the next size up. Only little little ones should be getting the child size.

The postage in a ready post 5"x8.25" cushion mailer was as follows:

up to 3 bracelets -- .87
up to 7 bracelets -- 1.11

(This was last year, i'm thinking postage may have gone up slightly in the past year though:confused3 )

Guess I just volunteered myself for this :cool2:
Having one place to go should work well as people don't have to coordinate a time to swap books

Thanks Julie

Jo

That's the problem with great ideas, Jo! :goodvibes Closer to time, we can just post on the pirates' website your cabin number and the idea of leaving a book and taking a book, etc. Thanks for thinking of this. :thumbsup2

Here you go ...The wenches shirt ...LOL

:thumbsup2 (of course that begs to be offered in a less conservative tank;) )

Lisa had a contact (i know who it is though;) ) who had gotten them for us last year.

I found these though and kinda like them better even though they aren't dated. People seemed to like these when i brought it up last time.

Is there a store on-line that has these where we can all just order them separately? Save work?

Or do you think people are more likely to get them if you have a pirate: working on them?

Or... perhaps...

We could just put it in the Pirates Navigator that you can download and print from the website in the weeks before the cruise..... hmmmmm.....

Hello neighbors...

... just sort of beginning to get caught up... an' I have so many chores still left undone. Since geting better, catching up on a month of backlogged business and business crisis events, plus being now 98% recovered from my flu... and the daughter is now clear of her illness (72 hour viral), and ... and ... and ... well, it's just been a lot of reular stuff that's had me totally overloaded with CATCH UP. Now I'm turning my attention to the TOAL thread to try and catch up a little. I've only read back as far as page 5741 - and that will have to do tonight.

Bah! yer gonna threaten ta LIMIT my photo snappin' eh, Cheryl? Bah!

I am still willing to make the CDs (or DVDs). I do have 2 computers that will burn DVDs/CDs so it is doable. I really wouldn't want to go larger than 1-2 DVDs. I can organize by day and/or subject. I just am not sure how to determine which photos to copy. I was thinking only items that are of general interest to the whole group - ports, characters, the ship, DIS events, etc. Anyone want to be on a selection committee? :lmao: :lmao:

Crash, if your site is easy to download from I am willing (with your help) to download from there and copy. I am not worried so much about the cost of the DVDs, it is mostly the mailing. If folks are willing to send me their address and give me say $1-2 I will purchase the DVDs and padded envelopes and mail the DVDs out.

Any additional ideas and suggestions will be most welcome. :worship: This is a TOAL so I don't want to miss pictures of anything. And my battery seems to go dead or I forget it at the most inopportune times. Plus the fact that I am not the greatest photographer.

Good morning everyone

Is anyone interested in a book exchange on board the ship?
Say if someone is done with their book they can exchange it with someone else that is done with theirs. Thought it would be a good way to limit how many books people have to pack, for those of us that are readers on vacation

Jo

I love this idea. My idea of relaxation is sitting by the pool with a cool drink and a good book. Let me know if you need any help.

Or... perhaps...

We could just put it in the Pirates Navigator that you can download and print from the website in the weeks before the cruise..... hmmmmm.....

And the fish extender list with cabin numbers (fingers crossed that people have them!) could be in the navigator as well!!!!:cool1:

(This was last year, i'm thinking postage may have gone up slightly in the past year though:confused3 )

Not only has postage gone up, but the USPS has put in a rule that NON-FLAT envelopes (i.e. have bracelets in them!) must be shipped as First-Class Mail Package instead of as an envelope. (even if it is in an envelope!) I'm guessing from your numbers that up to 3 braceletes was 3 oz and up to 7 bracelets was 4 oz (which is surprisingly light!). That would put the current Package rates at:

up to 3 bracelets: $1.47
up to 7 bracelets: $1.64

Don't you just love the new sneaky ways they have of raising rates?

Is there a store on-line that has these where we can all just order them separately? Save work?

Or do you think people are more likely to get them if you have a pirate: working on them?

***** MATH ALERT *****

The total cost is going to go way up if people order them individually. First, the price for over 240 at a time is about $0.30 each. If you are buying less than 11, the price is about $0.59 each. On top of that, we would each be paying shipping from a novelty store. I tried at one site and shipping 240 would cost $6.85. To ship only 3 cost $5.85!

The total to purchase 3 and have them shipped to me would cost (3 x .59)+5.85 = $7.62. If we organize it as a Pirate thing, it would cost around (3 x .30) + 1.47 = $2.40. Of course, that is assuming we have pirates that are willing to organize and handle this!

It looks like we have 2 possible volunteers. Winotracy has volunteered and Esteri has said it wouldn't be that hard to add to the T-**** orders and she would be willing to send them out that way. I assume that the shopping cart she is planning on using could be setup to let us order the bracelets. If we do it with the self-addressed envelopes being sent to Winotracy, then we wouldn't need to use the shopping cart. Either method would work.

That is going to be so fun! Hope they are ready for us. :lmao:

Has anyone had the Puerta Vallarta Canopy Tour request payment?
They sent me an email that they had me down for 1:00pm but it just seemed so casual I wanted to make sure I did not miss anything on paying them anywhere.

Hi guys! Just popping in to say I completed my first full marathon at WDW this past weekend. Not too shabby for an old fat broad! Maybe now that the training is finally over I'll be able to get over here more often.
Happy day to all!

The email we received confirming our time (titled "Re: Canopy Tour Reservation") had an attachment with information about paying via PayPal. Could your firewall or anti-virus have stripped off the attachment?

Great!! Welcome aboard! If anyone gets out of line, you can make them walk the plank...or at least take a dive from the rope swing!
