Yeah, I'm thinking I want to start looking at the ports- and also researching where to fly in to Ca, transportation to the parks and a resort (?) stay for a night or two. We are only interested in doing something before the cruise- not after. We'd love to go to WDW after the cruise but we're already going to have to RUSH home because the kids are going to miss some school to do this cruise. Plus we'd rather not go thru the hustle and bustle of WDW after the cruise, we'd prefer to do it before.

So -as I utter those infamous words once again- this really IS a trip of a lifetime because I can honestly say that not only will this be the first time the kids go to DL, it will be the only time (as children anyway). there is no way I'm going to pay to go to a vacation at DL instead of WDW... so not happening. I've only been to DL once, one day when I was in the area on business while pregnant with my son who is now 9yrs old. (VERY big pregnant- like about to explode pregnant. LOL So I didn't really get to ride many rides and was only there on my feet for a few hours- so I'm not sure it even counts!) -DH and the kids have never been there. We're thinking we'll probably fly in a couple days early and hit DL (both parks) before the cruise. I don't have a CLUE about where to fly in, don't know anything about the resorts, transportation to the port (what port? I have no idea yet LOL), etc. Lots to learn before this cruise!

The port is the port of LA or San Pedro. It is located in Long Beach area.
Around 30 min drive from LAX.

I realize it's a little late this morning, but after the day some had yesterday, I figured a nice hearty comfort food was in order for breakfast today...

And you may prefer to have your breakfast here...

Same game plan for us too.....

Disney added transfers onto our ressie for $59 each....

I've never been to CA and have no idea where i'm going so, for the first time, these transfers sound like a bargain.

Right now they have the transfer coming from LAX to the port. I spoke with a nice CM on the CC line last night who told me that a little later on they will add the transfers from either airport or DL. (since they know that many of us will be there)

On the FL side, we usually get a one way rental but since like you guys we will need to get home ASAP for school...i wouldn't mind if DCL takes us to the airport.

I just checked the website for a quote on the Family Basics Plan (kids free). The system replied:

Your return date must be within the next 550 days

No it doesn't. I plan ahead. :confused3

Yes, they have that rule. We will have to put that on the calendar to take care of. :thumbsup2

I think the mantra for this trip for many of us is "TRIP OF A LIFETIME, TRIPOFALIFETIME"

We too plan on flying in a couple of days eary but there is no way we are staying at a DL resort - DH is already concerned about the price. We plan on hitting DLone day and Legoland another, with dinner with my aunt & uncle one night.

thanks so much! do i have to call them to get the AAA rate, or is there a way to do it online? is this where you went thru...or are you using dcl's? sorry for the questions...just getting myself all confused! do you know if it's possible to have dcl drop it if i decide to get the trip ins on my own?

Yes, you need to call them for that rate. :)

Girls come on we can do this 79 and counting.

Creepy guy smilie is going to show up at any moment

Hay Lisa--did you add your pirate into your summary?Thats our only way to keep score as I see it although Mike is doing a very fine job even if we are "barmaids" atleast we aren't mermaids.

Of course I did...once I realized it! :lmao:

we have sailed around hurricanes before!!!

we left San Juan as they preparing for Hortense....the hotel was bringing down the metal curtains over the windows and had a letter a the front desk to prepare guests to ride it out.....the first morning the storm shifte and we weer heading straight for it - so we changed course and dropped down behind it !!! A few days later, we did a bridge tour and saw the awesome equipment - the map charting our course - and that of the hurricane - really reassuring!

reassure your huband that the ships can easily avoid the hurricanes!!! A port may be missed ...but nothing to worry about!!!:) :thumbsup2

You know I was thinking about this earlier when Jonesing was talking about getting clearance to go to Colombia and that as long as he wasn't going on to the Caymans it shouldn't be a problem. So Aruba is supposed to be next but after all it is hurricane season .........I wonder what his boss would say if we ended up calling on GC instead.:lmao: :lmao:

I have found that reading this thread at work makes the day pass by much more quickly.:)

I plan to start my rum tolerance program this weekend. (from none to one!!)

Cheers!

that's a good idea!!! since college Dh and I have become such "puppies" as we used to say...we only get into on cruises...or where we don't have to driveand then not toooooo much...I have the Konch Kooler recipe in front of me...gotta hit the liquor store!!:thumbsup2

well..that will stink!! i guess i'll have to call about it...i never told the cm that i wanted it...when i looked at my ressie online, i noticed it there.

No.....you CAN cancel DCL's insurance. :goodvibes You can't cancel a policy that you get on your own however.

I have never taken DCL's insurance...

but this time i'm starting to rethink...

CM told me last night that if you have their plan and incur and expense that Access America won't cover (since that's who processes DCL's claims) that you can send to DCL and they will give you a credit for your next cruise for that amount.

I will never look at Ground Hogs Day the same way any more! LOL! Especially after reading that article on ghs! Next time I see road kill I'll know it was a male! :rotfl:

So, DH was just telling me that the Cinderella III DVD is actually "Twice Charmed". Is that true? :confused3

No, it is not the same story at all. I saw part of it as a focus group months ago & DD has the coloring book that tells the story. It is very different. The step mother ends up with the FGM's magic wand & does lots of things to change the past. I guess they started out with the fact that TC was so well received but not the same story there.

same here - after 2 years away, we will be wanting to hit WDW, but this is our one chance to see DL!!! and we also have to get back because DD will star school that Wed!!!!:wizard: we were talking about one day at DL - but if DH can swing another day off work, I am going to try for 2!

Kristina---
I've been meaning to ask you.....who is with you in your photo in your sig?

My daughters and I were at DL this past June -- although we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, and liked it, it's important to keep in mind that DL is nothing like WDW -- there are literally dozens of non-Disney hotels within walking distance of the parks, and many of them are very reasonably priced. Also, we were amazed at how easy it was to hop between the Magic Kingdom and California Adventure -- their entrances are directly across from each other and park hopping is a matter of yards, not miles!
