I'm not sure if anyone is still up but I was wondering.....I emailed DU about a month ago with my request and got a generic email saying they would get back to me. I'm wondering if I should wait for them or call myself first thing in the morning. What do you suggest?
Sorry, I had thought you were talking about having a phone through Comcast... We thought of getting one of these so my DH could give it to his family in Egypt and we could make the call 'local'. Problem is their Hi=speed internet right now isn't very cheap right now. I had no idea it was against their terms.![]()

Well for the Big V you don't need to be an ubergeek.Actually, they have some phone units with the VOIP built-in. Just realize a few things...the telephone "jack" that you plug into is on the VOIP box, not the wall. Meaning if you want more than one phone to use the line, then you need a multi-handset cordless phone. Older 2.4GHz phones had some intereference problems but we have a 5.8GHz spread spectrum phone and it works fine. You don't get seamless E911 service with all provides, but most are going that route...but remember the 911 service is tied to the box which is tied to the billing address. So, if you move the box (from say Chicago to Miami) and dial 911, you get a Chicago VOIP 911 operator! And, as in my case, if your Internet goes down, you lose phone service. But they all have an option where you can forward calls automatically if the servers can't reach your VOIP box.
Although it's a violation of their terms, a buddy got a VOIP box and took it to his son who is going to grad school in Germany. So now, when he wants to call his son, he just makes a local phone call! Likewise, his son can call anywhere in the states (plus Canada, Puerto Rico, France, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the UK) and dad doesn't have to pay anything extra! Their $25/mo plan gives unlimited calling in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, France, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the UK! By similar token, you can take the VOIP box on vacation and when you plug it into the hotel's broadband connection, family and friends can call you at your home number.
David if we don't get on this time I'll be looking for someone to share a flat with shall i put you on my standby list?....![]()
After a very quick 5 hour snooze, it's to get my day underway!!! The real fun begins for everyone in just about two hours from now, best of luck to everyone, and I hope you get what your heart desires, When You Wish Upon a Star...........
Now, I have to get DD up, fix her breakfast so she can get to school. But I will be able to check in from time to time as she is getting ready, then again once I get back from taking her to school, I will be able to keep tabs on what is going on.
Keeping fingers crossed! The way Comacst is around here and how awful my internet can be, I won;t be signing up for their phone anytime soon.![]()
Morning !!
You're up early
