8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC Part 15

I have been over to the WB site seeing what their take on the panama tax and found this very good email with response from DCL.

This response is totally unacceptable. :sad2: Yes the new tax (charge) was designed for the cruise industry to pass on to the passengers. We still have to pay to go through the canal. The passenger has to pay the charge either 1) in the cost of the cruise or 2) as a separate surcharge. That is OK with me, I accept that I have to pay passage through the canal. But what really gets me is DCLs insistence that this is an increase and not a new method of collecting the tax. This is not an increase it is a restructuring of how the fee is calculate per passenger not on The Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System (PC/UMS) based on net tonnage which it is now. DCL had to figure in to our fares each of our portion of the PC/UMS fee (approximately $70-80/person). They are therefore charging us almost double for PC/UMS that they anticipated paying plus the new method that the PC has decided to assess the charges. DCL is basically saying that we are just going to keep the money that we have charged you already and you get pay the new method.

Anyway the other site is doing an email campaign and John (Jhalklas) is locating a higher contact person to email to versus the standard email responses that people are getting.

Rodger,

I'd like to tip my hat to you for the effort. I am wondering about this - and thinking it is as I posted - a fee in SUBSTITUTION of the prior per ton structure. I imagine it is an incremental increase in total revenue - not a grand gouging gesture on the part of the PC Authority.

As for how DCL is treating you - It smacks of an underling trying to respond with boilerplate. Or of a department awaiting a decision from someone else to handle this properly. I would think the kids in acounting are at an impase over how to actually give money BACK to us po' folks sailin' to and fro'.

I have faith they WILL refund our money on port charges IF our interpretation is correct. And I plan on calling again monday to speak to someone in authority to ask whom (in authority) I can enquire about this.

It's like if they are already getting say an average of $3,000 per person on te first 2 per cabin ... that's like 1750 x 3000 = $5,250,000 and if there are another 1000 passengers as 3rd or 4th passengers paying $1000 each this makes thier gross revenue on fares = $6,250,000... plus another $500 per cabin for ships' expenses = $7,125,000 in gross revenue.

So why are they trying to pinch us for a grubby $70-80 per person IF that represents the original PC tonnage toll.

I'm definately gonna find who to talk to or enquire with on monday. I'll post what I find out here.

Thanks for checking into the PC fees. It is very irritating that I am indeed spending more but not on the cabin upgrade I want.

:scared1: Sometimes I don't know what is worse, trying to take care of a 17 year old daughter, or a 71 year old mother :scared1:

No, no stress in my life

God give me the strength I need to survive :scared:

and the good sense to know where to hide the bodies...

OMG I'm LMAO

My Dad is 74 & has moderate dementia. He vascillates between not remembering enough to take care of himself & remembering enough to yank my chain. He just spent the last three weeks with me & the boys. It seriously took all the strength I had ...

OK ...we now stand at 710,009 visits to the 68,908 postings here on our thread. Comparatively, in searching for info on the Costa cruise line I only now have wandered over to the Cruise Critic "meet" thread for our Disney sailing and it has 38 postings and 451 visits. With such a difference it is realy very hard to imagine. As such, I now have 2 postings on that thread. Anyways.... the individual posting tallies for our thread are as follows:

We had a very rare occurrence in our household tonight - I cooked!!!!
We have eaten out virtually every lunch and dinner for 2 months- and no, we did not get sick of it. :) Dallas has a gazillion restaurants. At one point there were more restaurants per capita in Dallas than anywhere else in the country.

I kept getting these emails from a cooking site and I finally opened one and loe and behold, they were recipes. Go figure. The one that caught my eye was fajitas. After 3 trips to the grocery store, I finally only had to borrow 1 item from my neighbor.:)
2 burned fingers later, the fajitas were GREAT!
The house we bought 3 years ago has a very large kitchen w/ granite on every surface and half the walls. It really is a cooks dream- if any of us were actually cooks that is.
For a Christmas party I am going to pay my professional trained chef friend to come over and show a few other friends how to make the incredible Christmas goodies she makes. Thanks to the Budget Board I am now the proud owner of 2 new stand mixers. Never mind that I already had a stand mixer- this one was on SALE!! Who can resist that word. :rotfl2: Anyway, at least that will put my kitchen to work.

Crew -
Todd and I have been working behind the scenes on the t-s****'s I thought I'd give you a little update.
Thank you for all your hard work.

Children's Shirts
It occured to me to verify his ability to do children's shirts - rather than just assuming he can do it. No problem. One thing to think about is creating a second (smaller) set of screens for the children's shirts. Let's face it - the artwork sized to fit the smallest shirt will look pretty darn silly on an adult, and will be too big for the little shirts.

Have you thought about sizing for an adult chest logo and then using that as a back logo for a kids shirt? Of course, that would still leave two logo sizes - Adult Front and Back & kids back. Oh well, just a thought.

Anyway, we're looking at "just in time" for ordering, and probably only in the black (2A + 1K)

Anyway the other site is doing an email campaign and John (Jhalklas) is locating a higher contact person to email to versus the standard email responses that people are getting.

I am glad to see that it appears this issue is getting the attention it deserves.

The one thing that sticks out most in mind is the total cost to sail the Magic through the canal is approximately a quarter of a million dollars (assuming 2400+ passengers at a $100 per).

That's a SHIP load of money!! (feel free to change the "P" to another letter). :)

I used to make teddybears. I promised the girls in chat last night that I'd try to post a few pics today, here they are. I don't use a sewing machine, the bears and the clothes were made completely by my 2 little hands. They're all full jointed and stand 22". Since I've gone back to work I just don't have the time to do them anymore. I've made well over 200 bears. Used to make a pretty good living at it too.

This one the dress is hand crocheted and all the little gold pcs you see are beads each one was sewn on individually.

The odds of being struck by lightning are 1 in 83,930

The odds of being struck twice by lightning twice are 1 in 9,000,000+

The odds of a meteor landing on your house are 1 in 182,138,880,000,000

You might wonder why I am posting these odds. :confused3 It is because even though these are long odds they can still happen.

I say that because it appears now that the odds of the Dodd family making this TOAL are really, really slim. :sad2: Things with our schedule for our work make it almost impossible to go. So impossible that we really have decided to rearrange our vacation plans for 2008.

The one slim chance is if we get transferred again after only two years. If that were to happen it would be announced in May of 2008 just a week before the 90 day mark for the TOAL. Coincidence? Maybe and maybe not. If that happens then we will see if it can be possible but the odds are slim.

But for right now we are making new plans for other TOALs. Like Andy the VM I do plan to stay on this thread but not quite as active as before. I do have another thread for our December cruise that needs attention.

Also I am going to make the September 3rd meet at DTD. :woohoo:

Thanks for all the fun times. I really wanted to make this cruise.

Sorry Captain pirate: but Mr Gibbs has to miss this sailing. :sad1:

This is sad to hear of -

- alas, we'll be hoping the cards will play in your favor...

Either way ... it seems you do have another DCL voyage in December...

... and should the cards not fall your way - then there will be many other pleasant occasions when we will cross paths! Of that I'm sure!

Arrgh!

I was searching for Pirate costumes on ebay this afternoon and came across a little bit of trivia that I had never heard of. Has to do with people of the time period hanging a piece of fur from their belts to deter fleas.

Now ....

.... THIS is indeed an interesting bit of trivia. Unless, of course... we can trace the sellers' email account to YOUR address. Then, once again I might be very suspicious of what is going on here..... as suspicious as these dancing kittens are strange - you might say....

CONGRATS ROGER

THANK YOU for checking the other thread! Do they have a "standard letter" they are using for their campaign? I was starting to write one, but if someone has done it I'd be happy to avoid the work! I definitely think we should all email, write letters, call (whatever we each like best or all 3!) and keep after DCL on this. It may or may not work, but Disney does have a reputation for responding when there is a major outcry about something. If you come across a better email to send to, please let us know.

Wow...

It seems suspiciously quiet for a saturday evening.

Am I to assume I'll be dancing up to 69,000 alone?

I don't know if I can generate 80 postings without help?
