So right now we have all our ressies through DCL including our air. I keep telling DH that it would be cheaper to do the air and transfers ourselves. I think I finally got his attention when I told him that we should add a 3 days stay in DL to our ressie. What he didn't know is that I already made three day ressies at Hojos in the anticipation of possibly doing DL - just had to bring it up at the right time. Anywhoo............the other night he tells me to call DCL and see how much to add a three night stay in DL through DCL. When I told him the amount he nearly went into shock - $1500 more! SO I went to work on him again and kept telling him that the DIS SAYS it could be cheaper if we schedule our own air and transfers - he finally agrees and tells me to research it. Can you guys help me figure out what I need to schedule? I know airfare to LA, then transfers to Hojos, three night stay at Hojos (done!), Disney tickets, transfer to port to board ship. Then once in Orlando, transfers to MCO and then airfare home. Am I missing any major part of it? I know its too early to get airfare prices but I know there are like 4airports you can fly into - which one do you guys recommend and why? Thanks guys for your help!!

That is really neat! I would never have thought of doing something like that! Boy some people are just so talented!

I know this has probably been asked before but since there is no way I can keep up with this thread, I am sorry for the repeat question: Does anyone know exactly where the port is? My reservation just says Los Angeles, but I'm sure the port must have a name. We are unable to take any additional vacation time so will be flying in on Saturday and just staying one night. Since it's not enough time to visit DL we plan to get a room somewhere near the port...wherever that may be.

I just found out my company won the contract to oversee the construction of 2 new sets of locks at the Panama Canal. :cool1: Do you think I can get them to pay for my cruise as a business expense?

This was in our company newsletter last week. I thought it was pretty exciting and a big win for the company.

As program manager, ***** will work with ACP to oversee construction of two sets of locks and the excavation and dredging of massive amounts of material, which will increase the canal’s capacity to handle much larger ships. The expansion will also increase the number of ships the canal can handle each day.

The seven-year project is scheduled to be completed in 2014, which marks the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal. “The ACP said it wants the first ship to pass through the expanded canal on Aug. 15, 2014, 100 years to the day from the opening of the original canal,” Kennedy said. “That certainly sets the pace and expectations for this project.”

How cool:thumbsup2 And wouldn't that be a great perk--your company picking up the tab for your cruise.:goodvibes

Hi all.
I think it is a Foamies kit. I've seen that either at Michaels or Oriental Trading.

Hi Everyone,

We are really loving Roger's maps showing where we'll be next year. And thanks to Roger, Sooz, Andrew, Stacey, and Mary (and anybody I missed) for all the great pictures. Can't wait to see the sights for myself next year!

I think it safe to say that I have no similar appearing pseudo twin to myself on this sailing. <chuckles>

You don't see the resemblance? :lmao:

We made it home alive from our camping trip. :lmao:
The last day was actually painless and "problem free". And unpacking the trailer took a lot less time than packing it. Weird huh? there was less food to unpack but other than that everything came back out- so it was weird. Oh wait, Jeff didn't get out the fishing stuff, scuba stuff, etc. packed into the underneath sections. I guess that would have added some time. LOL

All in all it was WAY more expensive than we thought it would be. Vehicle SUCKED down gas, I guess from pulling the trailer and having to drive so far everytime getting a part for the trailer.. extra costs on parts, etc. It really added up! I guess we won't be doing this as often as we'd like- otherwise we couldn't be able to go on this TOAL if we did this camping stuff often! LOL

Kids had a blast and I am EXHAUSTED. I'm actually heading to bed at midnight (right after I post this) which is highly unusual for me, as you all know. But we have Six Flags all day tomorrow... wish me luck! I may have to lay down on a bench and take a nap and let the kids go ride without me. I'm totally kidding.. I don't let them a foot away from me-but I bet I'm WISHING I was taking a nap. I'll be melting from the heat- almost literally. LOL Just wish me luck... and I might have enough energy to post tomorrow night to let you know I'm still alive after tomorrow. ;)

Myself and 4 kids at Six Flags immediately after this weekend... what in the world was I thinking!

Glad everything worked out for you and you had a good time after all of the hassles settled down! Have fun at Six Flags.

The Disney Store has some iron-on transfers of Pirates, princesses, and other characters. I was thinking about picking some up for DW and I to try to make fish extenders. Neither one of us sews, but I think we'll give it a shot. We'll probably use that no-sew iron-on fusable tape stuff instead.

Diane, I lost your post in the multi-quote. We were at the Beach Club. Since we're DVC members, we decided to hop over to the scary clown pool one day. I think my kids liked that one at least as much as they liked Stormalong Bay. We were in the pool every afternoon, and some mornings and evenings too.

So many decisions!!! I haven't decided at all which airport to fly into--last time we did LAX and took Disney transport to PP. We had no problems at all. But I did use DCL for airfare/transfers. This time I am just gonna wait until I can book with Delta and go with the cheapest/best times for us. :)

Tom31s' reference to DP review is my usual favorite source for info - plus I refer to a few others who are nearly as insightful. As such - I must simply say I am impressed how far Nikon has come along in many ways with thier DSLR bodies. Especially considering the street prices.

As such - I found the DP review summary to be useful - quoted here:

Personally, I would have preferred the feature set of the D80... but I could live with the reduced set and capabilities of the D40x or D40 !!! Consider, I have been tooling around with an old 6MP Canon 10D for some time now.

Again - if ya like it - just get it. If ya don't see the need - and I seriously question the need for anything greater then 6MP in sensor size - then why get it?

In my case the street consensus thinks Canon will anounce the details of its' 30D replacement on TUESDAY. I'm gonna be traveling Monday and half of tuesday - so I may not pick up the news til tuesday evening. AND... the things I am most interested in hearing about are the #1) PRICE, #2) if it is weather sealed, #3) whether it is still a 1.6 APS-C sized sensor, #4) the auctuation life span on the shutter assembly and #5) the price. I think Canon should try cutting thier price to be more competitive - however, they may just remain stiff on holding a $1400 price point.

At any rate - either way (step up - or make no changes) you will have great fun and capture countless precious moments.

Thanks...everyone. Right now, my "land" camera is the Canon PowerShot Pro 1. And if I remember to do everything correctly, I do get some nice pictures. But I have begun to notice what a difference the SLR would make.
Guess I'll just keep waiting and watching and thinking about it. Right now, I just don't think I need all the capabilities that the D80 offers.

By the way....how much IS 1,000 pesos anyway? LOL

Check out the website, under "Useful Info" there is a section from a previous post about strategies for airfare. Under the "Thread Summaries" in the last 2 summaries there should be a link to posts by Roger regarding shuttle service (may be a direct link in the LA section of the "Itinerary" on website).

HoJo's you already have....

It depends on what you plan to do with your photos when you are done. If you are only plan to view them electronically of print 4x6 for albums or scrapping, heck even up to 8x10, then 6mp should be just fine and dandy. I like to decorate with mine. I have several of my photos 16x20 and even 24x36 framed in my house. 6mp just wouldn't give me the quality to be able to do that. Now it's not something you need every times you take a photo, but it sure is nice to know that it's there.

Also Stace, if you don't want to venture to a new site, the folks on the Dis photo board are a pretty helpful bunch of camera nerds.

You hit the target for what I'm looking for. So far, with the Canon (6mp) the largest that I've done to decorate with is 11x14. And they've actually come out really, really well. I don't think I have a stunning enough photo to want to make it larger than that.....but I keep telling myself that maybe if I had a better camera, I might. Or...it could just be the photographer! ;) I also don't have the scenery around here that you had in AK. Darn it. But I do love getting my ocean shots.

After looking at the cost of the newer Canon Crash posted ($1299) I think I'll just have to wait a while. I think I'd rather cruise more, and take crummier pictures! :rotfl:

San Pedro, Cal. Links and some hotels listed on website.

That treasure kit extender is AWESOME! I might just have to do that.

Good point about how sturdy it is.....hmmmmm....

When Jay & I renewed our vows in Key West, I'd made a treasure box to hold our rings....for our ringbearer to carry. It was made of wood. I got it at JoAnn and decorated it. It wouldn't be too hard to do that and attach a chain to it.

As far as someone stealing it.....we used heavy duty ties to attach our fish extenders, because on previous cruises, some had "disappeared". That way, someone would have to use scissors to remove them.

It's called The Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center in San Pedro, and they use Berths 91, 92, and 93 A/B. On Harbor Blvd.
Here's a link to the port's website:
