And remember, don't skimp on the memory chips! Don't just get the el cheapo SanDisk or store-brand chips unless you want to just take the "cummy" pictures.

Go with the good stuff--Lexar Professional (133X or higher), Kingston Ultimate (133X) or SanDisk Extreme III or Extreme IV. For fast-action or delicate shots, high speed, high quality digital media makes a big difference.

That's me that's taking the crummy pictures. I think most of my cards are Lexar...I do have one Scan Disk and maybe a Kodak or something.

I didn't realize that the cards made a difference. Well, I knew better than to buy ones w/o some kind of name brand.

Ya like that, huh? I'll tell the story. The teens were cranky because...well, they're teens...and we made them get out of bed early. We caught an early flight to CA the day of the cruise...leaving enough room to catch another flight if something went wrong.

My Dad was actually pouting. My Mom hadn't let up on him since we'd left the house. He wanted orange juice and she'd told him no. So he put it in a plastic cup to bring in the car. Right as we were leaving, he spilled the OJ all over the kitchen of the guest house, and she had to clean it up before we could leave. Meanwhile, Jay was mad because we had to wait for Mom to clean up the orange juice.

Have I said that there's a reason that I'm going on THIS cruise without my family????
:confused3 :rolleyes1

I just found out my company won the contract to oversee the construction of 2 new sets of locks at the Panama Canal. :cool1: Do you think I can get them to pay for my cruise as a business expense?

This was in our company newsletter last week. I thought it was pretty exciting and a big win for the company.

As program manager, ***** will work with ACP to oversee construction of two sets of locks and the excavation and dredging of massive amounts of material, which will increase the canal’s capacity to handle much larger ships. The expansion will also increase the number of ships the canal can handle each day.

The seven-year project is scheduled to be completed in 2014, which marks the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal. “The ACP said it wants the first ship to pass through the expanded canal on Aug. 15, 2014, 100 years to the day from the opening of the original canal,” Kennedy said. “That certainly sets the pace and expectations for this project.”

Maybe you can claim it as an unreimbursed business expense. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Diane, I lost your post in the multi-quote. We were at the Beach Club. Since we're DVC members, we decided to hop over to the scary clown pool one day. I think my kids liked that one at least as much as they liked Stormalong Bay. We were in the pool every afternoon, and some mornings and evenings too.

We stayed at BCV last summer & my kids loved that pool. This time they both complained that the separations in the slide at Luna Park hurt. I guess there's a big gap between the sections that are drilled together or something. :confused3 We are going back in Nov. for MNSSHP & the F&W, but we will be going back to our home resort of SSR.

Craft Alert! Micheals has the kit for the treasure chest.

http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=gc0836&channelid=

The kit probably runs around $10. But if you have a 40% coupon you could get it for less.

Can you order online, or do you have to go to the store? Our closest Michael's is about a 45 minute drive through icky traffic.

We don't have any Michael's around here either. I think the closest one is in NH. We have AC Moores, but I don't know if they sell that foam kit.

Thanks for the pics of LGB - that is my type of airport - I hate big sprawling airports! I was leaning towards this airport only because JetBlue flys there and it may be our cheapest route!

Me too! :thumbsup2

As far as someone stealing it.....we used heavy duty ties to attach our fish extenders, because on previous cruises, some had "disappeared". That way, someone would have to use scissors to remove them.

Taking notes here.....Thanks Stace for the tip!

Shelley/BIP...I almost forgot that you had asked...that head server's name was Aleksandra. We've had her a couple of times, and have enjoyed her....she seems to spend more time at the tables during the week, rather than just showing up on the last night for her tip envelope. And she's fun! She shares her hat.

They have OBVIOUSLY never been to Halloween or Springfest at OU.

:thumbsup2 Although, Springfest has been known to become riotfest because the students get ticked off that the bars close at 1AM due to Daylight Savings Time (clocks jump forward 1 hour from 1am to 2am, then bars are ordered closed). At one said riot, one of our football players got arrested for beating up a police horse. Of course, over the last 40 years, our football team hasn't been known for beating up anyone, so it was kind of "good..now focus the energy towards the football field" type thing. And it was just two years ago when our head football coach was found passed out at the wheel of his car facing the wrong way on Court Street...he believes someone slipped him a "roofie", since he's the first coach to take OU to a bowl game in 40 years, I believe him ;) :drinking1 Know when to say "when".

Hope the weather's not to rough your way Buckifan....we had tornado warnings up our way and, other than some down power lines, I haven't heard anything too bad.

I sure hope the rest of the day improved. I hate it when the mornings start out like that kinda dampens my mood the rest of the day.
(No, I don't blame you AT ALL!!!! :goodvibes )

Playa Medano....closest beach to the ship. $1 gets you a water taxi (climb into a rowboat from the pier) or $4 gets you a taxi here.

We hired a private catamaran for the day, but had to water taxi over near Playa Medano to get to the Cat. Needless to say, I took a land taxi back. Too hard to climb down into the row boat!!

I was just looking aroound for info on different ports and the free beaches. Playa Medano was my pick for Cabo.
I always feel better when I see someone who has been there that did the same.

We did have some of those warnings as well. And this afternoon, most of the traffic lights were out on the way home from my mom's house....so a 20 min drive home took us an hour. But we made it safe and sound, so I can't complain.

Stay safe, Joel!

Oh, and I've been meaning to ask....how is the job hunt going for your wife?

9th! That's just insulting.

They have OBVIOUSLY never been to Halloween or Springfest at OU.

Or Palmerfest. That started during my era, I'm not sure if it kept going.

So I always joke with DH that "on paper" there is no way we would be compatable. Yet somehow it works for us. Here is further evidence:

What can I say. Soulmates and whatnot.

You could always jaunt over to the musuems....

American History and A&Space are right across from each other on the mall and would make an interesting afternoon. Or maybe spy museum.

I like to go over to the National Gallery but i'm just weird that way.

Panda bears will still be there next time.

and don't worry...VA public schools have plenty of silly holiday/in-service days in Sept/Oct too...

FYI: just in case no one has mentioned - the American History museum is closed until next summer for renovations.

We are hitting Natural History tomorrow - DD can't get enough of the dinosaurs!!!!:)

:wizard:

Oh, and I've been meaning to ask....how is the job hunt going for your wife?

Things are looking starting to look better. She has an interview tomorrow. It's a Div III university. It sounds promising. Classes start in a little over a week, but they evidently don't have a computer instructor, so they sounded very interested. I'm suspecting it may be an Adjunct position for now, with maybe a foot in the door to faculty when she completes her dissertation. Due to proximity to us and career potential, I would really like to see this one work out.

She interviewed last week for another position at a state college, but hasn't heard back from them. And another small church affiliated college has contacted her regarding two positions they have open, but they're west of Columbus and a good 1-1/2 hour drive from where we are. So...if she were to be offered a position, we'd really have to look at the logistics.

On another note, since she loss her benefits from her previous employer, we had to apply for an individual life insurance policy for her. It was originally turned down by the underwriter because of her plans to travel to Colombia. However, we appealed to the company and explained to them that it was through the cruise and they approved :)

I'm hoping things go well for her tomorrow. Thanks for asking.:goodvibes

For anyone who's not used the Long Beach airport I have a few pictures to give you an idea of the size of it.

The first picture shows the terminal bldg straight ahead (taken from the side of the building). Upstairs there is a restaurant, downstairs is where you check in. The picture was taken at the outside baggage claim area. Yep...claim your bags outside.

LBAir1.jpg

Reminds me of the small airport on LI which grew to a bigger airport. You had to walk out to the plane and climg the steps to the plane. Not fun int the rain!

Here's a picture of the front of the terminal. You can see where the Super Shuttle parked, and we walked across...to the right...and entered the door with the banner above that says "Embarkation Lobby"...with the blow-up castle thing next to it. They wouldn't let me take pictures inside.

I removed the heads of my son, daughter, Mom and Dad, because they were all looking really cranky and they'd never forgive me if I posted pics of them like that.

:rotfl2: I thought someone ate their heads off:rotfl2:

Glad you said something.

Baggage Claim. Just beyond the green building is the conveyor belt where the luggage comes out.

I love this airport....easy in, easy out. And only about a 20 minute drive to the port. So much less stressful than LAX.

LBAir3.jpg

Stace, how much farther is this to Anneheim than LAX?
