So true,

The funny thing is Our company is rated one of the TOP in the US for working moms. ALL the working moms in my office laugh at that one.
All the magazine articles about it are funny, they talk about flex-time, job sharing, part time, etc etc. However these options are only available to management employees and you would need to cut off your right arm to get it. Not to mention that pushing for it makes you a target when the next round of layoffs come.

We do have great maternity leave options. We get our 6 weeks paid, then have up to a year to return. We can also work Part time in that year if we choose. Thats all really thanks to FMLA though. Its not our of the kindness of their hearts.

Lots more here is controlled by Europe most of it good, Maternity leave is far better here, overall very good, maybe, ( dont flame) too good as it cost's small companies a lot and ladies do not need to give notice about coming back to work or not. Government tells, but doent pay and leaves it to the business, all too often.

But many companies do pay lip service to it, and yes if you stick up for your rights you get yourself on the 'hitlist'

It wasnt as good in the past, I never had parternity leave for my kids, no you as a father can ask for this, I had to use paid leave for partnernity and then wife became ill after the birth of both kids.

We have the unpaid paternity leave option. However, most men do not take advantage of it. My DB is currently on paternity leave, but is using his vacation time, so he will still get a paycheck. He hasnt decided when hes going back yet. My sis in law will be returning to work Mid July.

The girls only came home Monday and its been tough since they are not being good little girls and sleeping on the same schedule. They are playing tag-team.

Sometimes I think about having another just to take a year off from work lol......but than I realize its easier to go to work.

Oh well its time to head to work :sad2:

Enjoy your day everyone.

I learnt too late that DAD's need to be fully involved and there at the birth two weeks holiday, not paternity wasnt good enough, and I ended up a lone parent of my first child after two weeks when Wife, had to go back to hospital for a month.

Learnt to be a dad quickley then!

PS Love the pictures of George Bush dancing and playing the bongo's today, he is sooo cool!

Its on our TV all the time. Is he going to be on ''Dancing with the stars''?

Andy, hope you feel better, we seem to be linked, just been to the Doctors as I have been getting headaches etc, told high blood pressure, take it easy, go for walks, ban on all fatty food etc.

Morning All
Since it is Take your Kids to work day.

Yeah my ST tried to get out of a half day to go with my husband (since my boss is a add, I wouldn't bring her here). DH said no...

Needless to say she has been to work with us before on school days off/snow days so it's not like she doesn't know what we do....

Well...the Good news is that we may not have to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax for this tax year. However, the bad news is that my DW may be laid off tomorrow.:sad1:

She's a professor and received email 1 (paraphrasing): "Dear employees, as announced at March XX meeting, the company has been planning staff reductions. Those impacted will be contacted by their Deans by 11am tomorrow. Sincerely, College President."

E-mail 2 arrives (again paraphrasing) "Hello Shella! (sic), I need you to come in and meet with me, the HR Director and some other person. Please let me know if 11am or 2:30pm is alright with you. Sincerely, Your Dean."

She's been fulltime for 9 years and had at least 2+ years adjunct before that. We were hoping she'd be spared because she picks up so many weekend and evening courses, plus the 9 years of time in seemed like some seniority, plus there are only two females that teach CIS. I've reread it multiple times and tried to look at some way that there may be an actual outcome where she's not being let go, but why would the HR Director be included? plus the timing after the first e-mail just leaves us w/little hope.

The bright side, she is finishing her PhD coursework in the next 3 weeks and this may allow her more time to focus on her dissertation. Even still, the completion of her coursework this month gives her an EdS degree, which is a graduate degree (basically says I did my PhD work but haven't completed a dissertation yet).

Here's hoping they tell her "you are one of the ones we decided not to let go"

This is a joke and run. On a biz trip until Friday. Will catch up with all y'all when I get home.

Good point and you must factor in that I have been requested to upload the Med Navigators as they will give us clues for the 2008 Repo, and photos of the Med so that could increase my daily thread post count.

Additionally you might have noticed its Thursday morning and I am posting, when I am usually at work, Have to go to the Doctors soon.

( and its aken me 20 mins to post this!) Sloooooooooooooooooow.

We should look at the Med Repo navigators too (if anyone is going and would be so kind...)

That is terrible and it happens here as well, lots of workers were laid off by TEXT recently, - now recently the Manager involved had a car accident and lost his life.

My office, they called 50 people in 2 weeks before Christmas, told them to clean out desks and this guard will escort you off the premises (this was a layoff, not for cause firing). No notice.

My father has been in a nursing home and I went every day to feed him breakfast. Because of my rotar cuff repair I couldn't go. In 8 days he just went south. He's in the hospital in ICU. Hooked up to all kinds of machines. Exactly what we didn't want. But because he had a minor operation they had to put in a breathing tube and he wasn't able to breathe on his own. I was there today and I don't think he'll leave the hospital. What happened to the golden years? :scared1: :sad1:

:grouphug: and :wizard: to you and your family John (and to EVERYONE else who could use it at this time!:)

Haven't been posting much - barely keeping up here and there - but I wanted to stay current with birthdays - apologies to those that are late....

I'm heading off to bed as well, I've had a very bad day and have been in extreme pain. I've had to resort back to taking pain pills for these knees of mine. I'm "hoping" for a better day tomorrow. Hazel had to stop and get me another jar of Mineral Ice this evening.

Good Night All

Hope you're doing better today Andy!
