Tom, thanks for telling me what the proper type bed I am looking for is called. I never heard of low loft beds before. I found one that is perfect...though a bit pricey. They are out there though! :) This one even has the storage space in the back that I put into my plans! I like the idea of the desk being built into it.

have you ever seen 88/100 of a moose?:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

You know, I am not sure if I have ever seen a moose live. I've had a bear cross my path while hiking in Yosemite, which was simultaneously thrilling and scary, but no moose.

But I guess, the other .12 of the moose is in some other square mile? Need to get those moose to line up completely inside mile boundaries.

:hippie:

I haven't even tried to add it all up. If we do that...we will end up stressing about it and not go.

Lucky you. We're past the stress stage. We did decide to cancel our vacation for this year and need to break the news to the kids since they were looking forward to Yellowstone. We're probably going to tell them about the cruise now and let them know we are trying to pay for it. It worked out well last winter b/c they understood why we were cutting back on other things and they agreed the cruise was worth saving money for.

:hippie:

I've got to make this quick, I just opened an e-mail that was sent to me from our friends that are vacationing in Hawaii. They received this notice and wanted to pass it along. If anyone has an extra $1500.00 you might enjoy this event, click on the link below:

http://home.disney.go.com/movies/pirates/premiere/

BTW, I didn't read the whole thing, I stopped reading when I saw the price of the ticket................:lmao:

Now if everyone on this thread chipped in a dollar or two, I would be more than willing to make a report on this event.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Now that you mention it....that is what my life seems like most days. DS woke up with a 102.5 temp this morning, was dizzy, still had a headache from yesterday, and his ear & throat hurt. I took him in to be checked out & it is strep. He will be home until Thursday. Honestly we start out most days with the stress of getting the kids out the door & to school on time. Eliminating that would make the day start out so much nicer. If we homeschool next year we could have class 9-12 and then deal with everything else during the day.

I hope DS is doing better now.:goodvibes Spring is the time we all get sick around here.:rotfl2:

Evening all !!

Here in the UK we reached the dizzy heights of 24oC or 75oF - had a day off today as well.

David

David, How are you getting the perfect weather there for weeks now.:confused3 We deserve it here!!!:thumbsup2 Another day off HMMMMM.........:rotfl: Johne says not again!!!:rolleyes1

Hockey players would never play naked. Too wimpy without their gear.
Now figure skaters are another story. We are used to nothin' between us and the ice but < a square yard of lycra.

Ahhhh but figure skaters don't have an errant hockey puck whizzing about! I don't know about you but a 60mph puck to naked "cash and prizes"

probably outranks a fall on a spandex covered tushie!

OH MY!!! Sorry, but what was the coach thinking? :sad2: The player could have injured himself more because once he saw the kid there it was obvious he was trying to protect him.

it was apparently the 'spring youth football festival' and the kid was down there with his dad. There's a story on espn.com, including this quote:

“It was kind of scary ’cause I got bonked by the football,” the boy said, hugging his own football. “It kind of hurted.”

Wow. John.R.Gray. I am impressed that your kids understood the concept of saving money. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

My DD16 and DS14 haven't a clue. They still think that we can afford everything there little hearts desire. Trips are just icing. DD thinks she should have a car. NOT!!! She isn't asking, she sort of demands. I keep telling her to let me know how that works out for her. She doesn't think she needs a job either. Spoiled. I tell ya!!! Which is really strange because we don't give them what ever they want. They have to work for allowance and have to pay to pay out of there own monies.

Nice for you, we had this strange wet stuff fall out of the sky today, seems to be water droplets, I seem to remember it in the past, I think it was called Rain.

Gotta love Colorado. I lived in the Springs for four months back in 1975, I remember waking up the early part of June with about 6" of sn*w on the ground, by the next day, it was almost all gone.

It snowed overnight...and into today. So much so that I almost didn't come into work. Several people didn't. Went out to start the car and sweep the 8" of accumulation off the windows. Went back into the house to get ready for work. That took about 20 minutes. During that time THREE more inches of snow piled up on the car! The drive in with 25' visibility took three times as long as usual--had to cut through the Air Force Academy because some jerkoff who cut in front of me while leaving my development couldn't get his car up the inclined onramp :headache:

DW said the (wet) snow had drifted so much against the back door that she can't open it to let the dogs out. We may have to send them out the side door of the garage! Several people have plans to leave after lunch. I figure I'll do the same if the weather worsens.

And to boot, DS seems to be coming down with a cold. I guess we're lucky, by comparison to other kids at his old pediatrician, his medical file was a scant 8 or so pages--about 20% of other kids--and most of his file is from the vaccinations. Luckily he doesn't mind the tast of the infant Motrin etc.

We were surprised as well. We told them we would not be buying them anything for Christmas because the cruise was Christmas and they agreed they'd rather have the cruise. Maybe it was the way we told them that we were 'considering' it if we could afford it.

My oldest has inherited my sense of frugality (or cheapness, as my wife calls it). My middle son, not so much -- he spends every dollar he comes in contact with. My DD5 wants everything and thinks money grows on trees.

Anchorage, AK: .88 moose / square mile

J. R. Wouldn't that be .12 left, not .22?

Shame on you refering to the 6 year old as a pet!

All Westin Hotels permit pets--including the Casuarina in LV. Aladdin is part of Starwood (Westin) but they don't take pets. The Westin has gaming but the casino isn't as big as the megaresorts. Plus, since the hotel is smaller (by comparison) you won't have problems finding your way around. Check with captaincrash for a hotel review.

Marriotts usually don't take pets but most of the Marriott Residence Inns do. The ones in Vegas are non-gaming facilities.

Both the Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock (part of Stations Casinos) take pets. Red Rock also has a Kids' Quest (think DCL Oceaneer's Lab/Club) on site. We dropped DS1 off there a couple of times while we had dinner or gambled. You don't need to be a hotel guest. But note that if she's going to ever go back after this visit, she'll need her immunization record.

Thanks for the info - never been to Vegas - and traveling w/4 adults & 6 yr.old boy and 2 German Shepherds presents some challenges. We'll be there from Thurs to Sun. - so kid & dog friendly is important.
Oh, calling Matt a pet is not so bad - one of my friends calls all kids "critters" !
Thanks again, Chris

There are a couple of web sites for searching "Pet Friendly" hotels. Be careful because while they may look good on the web they can be pretty poor in person. My last trip I booked a Holiday Inn and it was in worse shape than any Motel 6 I've seen. Some "Mom & Pop" places are really clean and nice but check them out before hand. ;)

Thanks for the tips. When my kids were young and we vacationed on a shoe-string budget I relied on KOA campgrounds & Motel 6!!!
Chris

Nice pics of the Westin there Crash, looks like you had a nice time.............;)

Thanks Andy...

... Our 1st nite at the Westin was fun - as it was a nice little place. We did Circus Circus dropping a lot more than I care to admit in pursuit of stuffed animals. But we did walk away with a farm load of fuzzy critters. (images above)

Then we hit a seafood buffett in Downtown Vegas - photos above. This is virturally a ritual for us as it is relatively inexpensive at about $16 or so. Images above.

After that we had friday nite (the 13th) at the one of the very worst hotels I've ever stayed at. What I didn't know until after we left was that this hotel was about to be demolished to make way for a new one. At any rate, everything in Vegas was either sold out or near $200 a nite at the least. And generally, we don't like droppin' triple the low fare rates for just a 2nd nite in Vegas. But I had some business in the morning that we scheduled just a week or so before we were to visit so we were more a victim of late planning then anything else. As for the same money we could have been on the Strip at the Sahara. A decent place but far from most other points of interest. Photos above.

So how do you like that? The 1st nite we stayed at a 4 star property, then on the next nite we stayed at a 1 star dump slated for demolition in another month or so! <chuckles> At least I saved near $140 against the next cheapest hotel IN Vegas (which I knew of).

Above are a couple photos of the downtown Vegas scene. Below are some of my more surprising discoveries which we snapped shots of...

I think we need to accept the concept that most on this board are not math wizards! If they were, first we would be actually adding up the cost of the TOAL and really be in a panic. Second, the amount of time spend on DIS related matters would also go into the equation. Third, I don't know what third is, too high a number.....:rotfl:

Oh - I went again to the doc for my shoulder - diagnosis = " impingement syndrome of shoulder, adhesive capsulitis of shoulder, arthritis of shoulder" - they gave me a cortisone injection & more vicodin and I start physical therapy next week. Hopefully I won't need any additional injections?!!

That diagnosis says to me -"your're just getting old, girl!!!!"
Once the pain subsides maybe I'll think of it more as I'm mellowing like fine wine!!
