Disney Cruise Line Signs Contract with Meyer Werft To Build Two New Ships
New ships will more than double passenger capacity

CELEBRATION, Fla. (April 23, 2007) -- Disney Cruise Line announced today that it has finalized a contract with Meyer Werft shipyard to build two new ships.

Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin and Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft shipyard of Papenburg, Germany, signed the contract in front of several hundred cheering cast members at a Disney Cruise Line cast gathering this morning.

"This is an exciting time at Disney Cruise Line, and we are looking forward to working with Meyer Werft to build two new innovative ships that will take our immersive family-focused cruise experience to an entirely new level," McAlpin said.

Plans to add two 124,000-ton ships to the fleet were announced in February when executives signed a letter of intent to negotiate a construction contract with Meyer Werft.

Scheduled to launch in 2011 and 2012, the ships will more than double the passenger capacity for Disney Cruise Line to meet the sustained demand for Disney's family cruise vacations.

The new ocean liners will be significantly larger than the existing 83,000-ton ships, the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder with 1,250 staterooms each. Both ships will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

Disney Cruise Line established the family market within the cruise industry when the business launched in 1998. The first two ships were purpose built for families to reconnect and recharge while creating vacation memories that will last a lifetime. From a theater featuring live musical spectaculars to a luxurious spa for adults and nearly an entire deck dedicated to children's activities, the ships truly offer something for everyone.

Similar to the original Disney Cruise Line ships, the new ships will be modern interpretations of classic ocean liners of the 1930s. Disney Imagineers drew their inspiration from the original trans-Atlantic ships that featured a dramatic black hull with two funnels and porthole windows. The profile of the ships, with gentle curves at the stern combined with sleek angles at the bow, is reminiscent of the art deco designs of the era. To add whimsy to the classic design, the Disney ships feature the same exterior colors as Mickey Mouse, with a black, white, red and yellow palette. The new ships will feature elegant, detailed Disney scrollwork at the bow and evoke images of the glamour of the golden age of cruising.

New itineraries

Disney Cruise Line, which traditionally offers 3-, 4- and 7-night Caribbean cruises, has enjoyed strong demand for new itineraries. Trips to the Mediterranean and to the West Coast have recently set booking records within the company.

"Expanding our fleet will give us the flexibility to offer a variety of itineraries in the future," McAlpin said. "We are looking forward to taking our guests on new adventures to different parts of the world with Disney Cruise Line."

2011 and 2012? I thought they said the first one would be out in 2010!

Just want to say thanks to everyone who wished Kevin a Happy Birthday today. You made him feel very special! :)

And are moose really that dangerous to anyone other than ex-Pottsylvanian spies?

This one seemed to be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qD4xOOIkDc

Seems odd that a lady just walks along in front of the camera, a car drives by and the camera guy keeps rolling, but noone tries to help.

The President of ECHL is my neighbor..... still haven't managed to get him to give me good tickets....

Does that mean you get bad tickets? or no tickets? As I would say any ticket would be a good ticket. We used to have a blast at the old ECHL Columbus Chill. They had their share of dumb promotions, like tie-dye night in which the jerseys they wore were tie-dyed. There's one of the tie-dyed jerseys in the NHL HOF in Toronto.

Well the storm is passing! :yay:

Just rain and 2 or 3 instances of hail but nothing too bad. And now the weather goon on TV is saying the rains will continue tommorrow and turn into SN*W in the morning  Prediction is accumulation of 6"-24" by the end of the day  BUT we'll be up to the 70s by the end of the week! :hippie:

We built from scratch, no prefab, a loft bed for DD when she was around 6 as she wanted a bunk bed but we wanted something she could have a desk under. It was so well built that in the last few days we were living there, my DH and I slept up there as the furniture had been packed and gone.We had a built in ladder on the end but it was very hard on the feet, so we took an old wooden ladder and angle cut the legs so it stuck out a bit from the bed and made the trip up and down safer than the up and down.We also put carpet squares on the treads to give a more secure footing as well.If i come across a pic I'll try to send it.
The only downside of the loft was the heat. It was great in the winter as the heat rose but in the summertime we had trouble keeping it cool. However, back then we had a window a/c and no ceiling fan. It prob would've been more comfortable if we had.

I want to get a loft bed made for DD due to her room being too small. I want the dresser to be under the bed area so the bunk would actually be half the height of a regular bunk.

Hi everyone. I have been MIA the past week. It's been a hard one here and I just didn't want to bring everyone down. We have been keeping busy and spent the afternoon at the beach yesterday. Today I worked outside cleaning the cars and mowing the yard...then recooperating with a nap. ;) DS's hand is doing better though it still hurts a bit. He isn't holding a pencil properly so his handwriting has been sloppy...though it is nice to not see him obsessing about it.

:rolleyes1 not mentioning my weather for Jonesing's benefit...:cool2:

But 35% more fans prefer the Trenton Titans (soon to be Trenton Devils) to those Aces..... (but the Trenton Titans will be watching the rest of the playoffs0

I'm sorry, I had a bit of trouble hearing you there.

We're rooting for the New Jersey Devils since we don't have a proverbial dog in the fight. Scotty Gomez is a local boy. Passed up playing in Europe during the lock out & mucho $$ to play third tier pro hockey in Anchorage for something like $300 a week. It sure was fun to watch him. Very cool guy too, we met him at a 'thing'.

And you aren't thinking Orlando or PC?

Too hot. Too many fire ants.
Unless I can get that job as Tinkerbell during Wishes.

Perhaps some work on the slapshot is in order?

I'll get to that in my spare time.

A good cross-check would probably do the trick.

I'm better at cross checking. I play defense.
And a few of the people I play against are roughly the size of moose.

BTW I think it's just wonderful that we are all so close that you guys can take turns making fun of me when I'm not around...

:)

Wow! Three in a row. Everyone must be enjoying the weather or hiding from the hail.... :rotfl2:

Somewhere in here I passed 500 posts and continue to move up on the thread posting stats. I blame all of you for this obsessive compulsive behavior (no personal accountability here) :rotfl2: Yikes this DISease can be quite obsessive....

Is it true that 82% of people who post more than 500 times on DISboards are hopelessly addicted and are 38% more likely to take a TOAL or two?

I therefore proclaim NO-ONE is to blame - except possibly the Wenches on account of their seizing a heavy handed majority of the pirate "milemarker" postings.

...Arrrg!...

TAKE WHAT YA CAN!!!!

I actually mean to convey a "glad you HAD a nice productive and relaxing weekend" message... but this charming animation was as close as I could get to what I meant to say. I'm sure you get the jist though.

Any of these fit your criteria?

...............

Rural is good.
Commuting nightmare is bad!

I hate shopping. I shop for clothes 2x a year (if that) so as long as there is a Target I'm good to go!

rte0033l.jpg

Well...

.... i've been with my spouse for something like 22 or 24 years ... and from when we first started going out I noticed this girl loves to shop. After all these years of carrying her bags, rendering opinions in the store while I read a paper back as I waited fer her to finish shopping I've come to the conclusion she probably finds a way to go shopping every other day. Or seriously, at least once or twice a week. And that includes going to Target. The one thing I can be thankful for though is she is great at finding the most amazing bargains sometimes. And ... sometimes I tell her that her best bargain was finding ... me. Then she usually shoots back a wry remark of some kind... sigh.

Shame on you refering to the 6 year old as a pet!

All Westin Hotels permit pets--including the Casuarina in LV. Aladdin is part of Starwood (Westin) but they don't take pets. The Westin has gaming but the casino isn't as big as the megaresorts. Plus, since the hotel is smaller (by comparison) you won't have problems finding your way around. Check with captaincrash for a hotel review.

Marriotts usually don't take pets but most of the Marriott Residence Inns do. The ones in Vegas are non-gaming facilities.

Both the Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock (part of Stations Casinos) take pets. Red Rock also has a Kids' Quest (think DCL Oceaneer's Lab/Club) on site. We dropped DS1 off there a couple of times while we had dinner or gambled. You don't need to be a hotel guest. But note that if she's going to ever go back after this visit, she'll need her immunization record.

Not sure what the questions were ... but here are a few photos from the Westin in Vegas...

The Westin in Vegas had terriffic Kids' Club packages for the kids. Complete with nice tan hats, nite lites, rubber ducks, crayons, and all sorts of things including a few bandaids. The pool and spa was smallish by Vegas standards, but nice enough with a set of cabans off to the side for anyones' use. We would return again without any reservation or complaint.

Gotta love Colorado. I lived in the Springs for four months back in 1975, I remember waking up the early part of June with about 6" of sn*w on the ground, by the next day, it was almost all gone.

Nice pics of the Westin there Crash, looks like you had a nice time.............;)

Time to get my ST up and on the move, another day of school and work awaits for the two of us, see ya later on............

I've got to make this quick, I just opened an e-mail that was sent to me from our friends that are vacationing in Hawaii. They received this notice and wanted to pass it along. If anyone has an extra $1500.00 you might enjoy this event, click on the link below:

BTW, I didn't read the whole thing, I stopped reading when I saw the price of the ticket................:lmao:

Up at 2:30am and can't wait to get to the Dr's. Having this arm strapped to my body is driving me crazy. Hopefully he'll remove the stiches and let me get to rehab. I do the shopping and cooking in our house, so the inactivity has me climbing the walls. Eight months into our budget year and we've blow the whole years allotment. Looking for donations :sad2: Too many vacations last year, we'll have to tighten the belt buckle. Actually now that we're baby sitting we'll be forced to settle down, except in June We'll have the Princess cruise to pay off. Wish I had a few thousand british pounds.
