pork rolls . .yummy . . growing up, we had a great friend of the family who was a physician from the Phillipeans. They would have the best holiday parties. I used to stay and help my friend and her mom make hundreds of pork rolls for guests. The kids (or rather teens) would be in the basement for the party . . .we would have pork roll eating contests . . Danny Gallager ate 75 once! . . .LOL So Pork rolls are delicious far east food!

I had lots of Phillipino friends growing up & loved going to their houses. My favorites besides the rolls are ponsit & jasmine rice. :goodvibes

NO FREEKING WAY!
BIL's song was just on national TV!

I'm sitting here DIS, watching Friday Night Lights and baking...
and there it was. Hey Man by The Vacancies.

Only about 30 seconds during one of the football scenes, but there it was!
They haven't hit it big, but they are about to release their second album on a real indy label, they get some play on college radio, and were on the soundtrack for the movie Failure to Launch.

That was way cool.

If they report back that 100 bricks are cold, 100 bricks are cracked, 100 bricks are uneven, 100 bricks are red, and 100 bricks are too small....they are politicians.

If they take 300 of the bricks and horde them to build their own office & say that you need to make due with the 100 bricks that are remaining...they work for the school board.

:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao:

what the heck is a pork roll? doesn't sound appealing :confused3

I didn't know what pork roll was either, and from the way Theresa made it sound, I thought it might be like a pizza roll only filled with pork. Maybe because I make pork potstickers that are to die for if I do say so myself. Anyhow since I love googling so much here is what I found:

Taylor ham is the common name for pork roll, a food developed by John Taylor of Trenton, New Jersey, late in the 19th century.

Taylor is the brand name for pork roll made by Taylor Provisions, Inc., of Trenton. Taylor also manufactures pork roll under the Trenton brand. Trenton by Taylor has been an advertiser on the outfield wall at Mercer County Waterfront Park in Trenton since it opened in 1994. Other companies making pork roll include Kohler Provisions and Loeffler Gourmet.

The product is generally eaten sliced and grilled, like Canadian bacon. A slice fits neatly on a round roll, and it is frequently eaten as part of a breakfast sandwich, most often also including egg and cheese.

Pork roll generally comes in one-, three-, and six-pound sizes, as well as six-ounce boxes containing eight single-thickness slices or four double-thickness slices. The product is seldom available for retail or restaurant sale outside of New Jersey and adjoining areas like Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. However, a message board posting in 2004 showed that Taylor ham had been located at a supermarket in Valdosta, Georgia. There are also marketers selling pork roll on the Internet and shipping it around the United States.

Ummm . . .new . . . got new tile in all our bathrooms. My master bath is totally stripped. DH desperately wants a toilet back . . .LOL. I'm sanding down and refinishing our vanity. It was solid wood . . .amazing how much $$ it would cost to replace it. I also managed to get the aged wallpaper off the drywall (they didn't put paint on the drywall before putting wallpaper on it . . yikes!). We're also painting the master bedroom for the first time ever . .. So things are pretty much in an uproar, but it will be worth it. . .

What's new with you??:hippie::hippie:

Wow you've been busy! Wanna come do mine now? ;) Really we have to finish updating this whole house too, especially the bathrooms so I can put it on the market! It's overwhelming isn't it?

Not much new here. Leaving for Hilton Head on Saturday. Just in time to escape a nor'easter! :yay:

Lisa, you really are done with that school board, aren't you . . .LOL. DS10 uses Saxon for Math, ABEKA for grammar, Wordly Wise for Vocabulary, MCP for spelling and SONLIGHT for science, literature, and history. For DS12 we're using Jacobs Algebra for Algebra II, Sonlight for literature, writing, and history, ABEKA for grammar, a few different things for vocabulary, and Apologia for Biology. Oh, both boys are using Rosetta Stone for Spanish. They also take a 1 hour art class every Friday.

Funny, I developed some sort of involuntary tick when I read that.

Yes I am. It's not only the school....it's central services. HR made the decision & didn't even tell the administration that they would not have an assistant showing up the next day. :sad2: I am going to call the one school I would consider sending them to and make an appointment with the principal. I am going to be very direct with him & ask him how he would handle some of the situations that I have had to deal with this year. If he doesn't give me acceptable guaranteed responses...we will be homeschooling them. They use Saxon Math in school now so that would work. I didn't realize that you could pick & choose different programs for each subject.

Lisa,

Homeschooling offers you the freedom and the responsibility to school your children as you, the parent, believe is best for them. The amount of curriculum options available for our kids is mind boggling. For folks pulling their kids from school, my advice is usually to stick with what you are used to at first. With everything going on, you will all need some detox time. Unless your kids are high schoolers, you'll get the most out of doing some math, reading a bunch of books from the library, doing lots of field trips, etc. Then in the fall, get started on some great curriculum. In VA, we have an annual convention. It is awesome. We learning from amazing speakers, get to see the latest curriculum choices, and the purchase from a huge USED curriculum fair. Let me know if your just want to chat about it . . .there are lots of questions to be answered . . LOL

Someone did tell me recently that there is some way of getting the 90 day supply....now if I could only remember how that is. Anybody see my "memory pills"???? :teeth:

Mine works if the doc specifically writes the scrip for 90 day refills. 4x90 days instead of 12x30 days for a year scrip.

For the record....I'd love to have another Meet, but I wouldn't do that to DD, she is leaving for college soon and I'd like for us to be on speaking terms when she does go off to school......Oh No now I'm getting all weepy again..

What? No snarfle?

sssppp!!! It's task forces! ;) :lmao:

THANK YOU!

If he knew, he didn't mention it when we talked to him on Sunday.
Totally shocked the heck out of me. The other times I've heard it in big time things, I knew to expect it.

And are you entitled or obsessive? :rotfl:

But the more important question is, can he get us (and by us I mean me - not the other 496 people on this group) a bridge tour?

What is your husband's rank? (if that's not too personal). Perhaps I will dazzle you with the very limited knowledge of CG I got from a co-worker in CG Reserves...... Kinda amazing that people don't realize how much they do....

Obsessive. I'm fairly certain that I am one of the least 'entitled' people I know. Besides, what does TOAL passage in a broom closet entitle me to?

We got a bridge tour last time - didn't even ask (see no entitlement). I wrote about it and posted a pic a million pages ago.

DH is a Lieutenant Commander (Major for those who only speak army/air force). Not too personal - it's on his sleeve in my sig!

LOL . . . don't be too impressed . . . if you do homework with your kids, then you homeschool. Remember as the teacher, I get the teacher's manual with all the answers . . LOL. My son's are 10 & 12. We've been homeschooling for 8 years. And no, patience is still something I am constantly working on . . .I am thankful we have this option, but we have good days and the OTHER kind of days . . .LOL. I admire 1st grade teachers! I can't imagine having the patience and tolerance to deal with a room full of antz boys and chatty girls . . .and teach them to read! . . .thanks for the encouragement :)

WTH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The friggin' weathergoon was just on TV and they are forecasting potential BLIZZARD conditions starting tomorrow night!!!! :scared1: They are calling for 9"-18" of SNOW but since we live right next to the Palmer Divide we'll get the worst of the fronts from the north and south!:sad2:

Well, at least I'll get the day off ;)

oh, so lumpia then? pork and veggies in a crispy wrapper? love those but didn't realize you could order them in the kind of place MR was talking about.

so not lumpia like the other posts led me to believe.....I'm back to it not being appealing...not much of a fan of ham, so this doesn't look good either

OK, can someone please help me out here, as there is NO way I can read ~50,000 entries - I was looking for some info/feedback on this cruise. We'd be interested in taking this cruise (submitted a quote request to DU) - is it too late for a decent cabin, or is it more that most of these posts from the same group of people "sharing"? I have to say, this thread is rather intimidating for someone interested in joining in on this cruise!

Welcome. I'm still intimidated by this thread, and I've followed it since late January. I know the intimidation factor for me was that I felt like an outsider watching a bunch of longtime friends sharing stories, but most of the posters haven't really met and are just getting to know each other.

Best wishes on a cabin. I think the general consensus is that some cabins will probably open up, but maybe not until final payments are due in May next year. Of course, I can imagine that trying to plan for a 15 nt cruise that you may or may not get a cabin on and may or may not know until 90 days prior to sailing would be intimidating in itself.

If it were me, I'd keep an eye out on this thread. I think nearly 500 people are registered as explained in the first post and if someone needs to bow out, there's a chance they would post the news, which might give you first chance of snagging the vacated cabin if it's released into inventory.
