Hi guys.

Happy Monday Evening.

It's a pay the bills, do laundry, dust and ketchup type of an evening.

Good thoughts and PD to those of you needing a bit.

Christal - best of luck to both of you as you move forward in your adoption process.

Todd - as fellow SSR owner, WELCOME HOME!

Tom- I got about four lines into the article when I realized it had to be from the Onion or an April Fools piece from one of the local papers. The only thing that stinks at the Jersey shore are the bennies who think it's fun to feed the seagulls. (yea, it's all laughs till they crap on ya.)

OK, dryer just buzzed.....

When DS was 13 or 14 I had to limit his play to only Friday ater school and Sat and Sun. It continues still. I truly don't know what they find so fascinating. LOL. And he also had to keep his grades up. I have taken away his game priveleges (by hiding the controllers) from one report card until his next one was better. This has always been a great incentive to get the grades up.

I was worried about the kids getting hooked on video games. We didn't have one until DH wanted a nintendo 64 for Christmas. I picked up a used system & a few games. DS was 3. Within a few months he was playing Super Mario. By 4 he was going up against Bowser. He would count the coins and tell us how many more he needed to get the gold star. You need 100 for each star. I was amazed that he was learning math from a game like that! Someone else told me that their son scored high on map reading skills in first grade & the teacher told her it was due to video games.

I agree! There was a time once when a bad progress report came home, followed by a missing homework phone call, followed by some fresh mouth. Well DS lost his computer, TV, video games.......in fact all he had left was the sheets on his bed. No phone, no going out, nothing. All he moaned for was the video game. It helped turn it all around, usually now all we have to do is threaten to take the game away..........oh horrors no! Back on the straight and narrow he goes. I don't know how long that will last....but for now it's working good!

You use what you can. :thumbsup2

It still works for me. I know there has been times when I have popped DS, but what has worked the best is just taking controllers or IPOD away. And then sticking with it, if his progress or report card was bad enough (anything less than a C). No return until the next one came out with improvement. That has taught him that I mean business and that he just can't wiggle out of it.
I wish kids these days were like us. Wakeup , play outside until dinner and head back out until the street lights came on. :sad2:

DS's Ipod should be delivered tomorrow. He will get 1 hour listening time for each O / A. Next year it will be 1 hr A, 30 min B 0 C. If he gets a D or F all time will be wiped clean.

Okay on to my point- they had tryouts today and out of about 45 girls that tried out- she made the cheerleading squad of 13 girls!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO RUBY!!!! :cheer2: That is very difficult to do. She should be very proud of herself. It might be a good idea to video some of the more involved routines like you did for tryouts at practices too. It seemed to work well for her & why change a good thing. :)

Hey Maureen!! Sorry about your DS hope he's better soon! You haven't missed anything Pal, same ole, same ole

Yes and the stinky kid is spreading germs all around. Dh has a touch of a cold and so does Devin. I'm hoping it doesnt spread this way.

So Cool . . .

These pic's are great! I'm so jealous...I wanna go on a mini-meet too (can you all hear the pout and foot stomp?)!

So, SAnjaya is still in it. OY!!!!.I really liked Stephanie and really wanted the chrome dome out. Still can't stand to look at his head:rotfl2:

UGH! Wasn't that terrible!?!??! :( They had him on SNL...or a spoof of him anyway. ROFLAMO!!!!!! If he goes much further AI will be over with after this year.

They make it very hard here in Fl to get your child into the gifted programs............... You would think they would jump at a child excelling but here all the concern is for the schools getting good grades in the FCAT and that is the biggest problem we have here. The schools go into high gear around testing time and all they do is prepare for the tests rather than teach.

That is terrible! They don't worry about the gifted kids because they will score high on the tests at the end of the year. They focus time & money on those kids who are at risk. They forget that gifted kids are special needs kids as well. They need to show growth during the year or there is a problem just like the basics for the at risk kids. It makes me upset to know that with DS reading at a 4th grade level now and if he doesn't want to move forward so remains there....noone will care for another three years when he is in 5th grade. Something is wrong with the system when that is the case.

What a great idea:thumbsup2 Doesn't it seem like yesterday in so many ways?:)
I am sure that Angelina would be so proud to know that her potty training was being discussed her.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Why not? Both of my kids had their progress documented on the DIS and the deal board I was on at the time. I saved my posts for their journals. LOL!

Just home from the Dr. with my DS and it's FLU Round 2 here in the O'B house!!

Hope that your house is not still sick, MR. You too Tom!

Very cuty Andy! Did you tell Angelina that you posted the potty training story or is that a secret?:rotfl2:

I guess that she will find out about it during the DIS trivial pursuit game on board? ;)

I used to love to develop my own, gave you even more control and cool results!!!

Of course in a few years "film" and "developing" will get the same looks that words like "8-track" and "album" do now....

I don't think I ever did the formal introduction, lurked for a bit then jumped in and .... well, can't stop now...

I love the smell of stop bath and developer solution. It's from many hours in a dark room setting. I worked for a while in a Pro Lab while in college.

Nice Pics.

Looks like you guys had a great time.

I've been hanging out here avoiding mentioning this since yesterday afternoon and DH may kill me for posting this, but being the boss's wife can be a very helpless and lonely place and I need to weep somewhere.

Our Alaska CG family could use as many prayers as you can muster. I can't/shouldn't go into details, but the situation is very, very sad and DH had the awful task yesterday of being one of the men in dress uniform knocking on the door that every military wife dreads seeing in the bottom of her soul. It is just an awful, terrible, situation & a stark reminder of how dangerous the military can be, even for the men and women who aren't overseas.

If you're in Seattle, check your newspaper.

:grouphug: My prayers go out to you and your husband.

I spent four years in the Navy and took three cruises on an aircraft carrier. Each time someone did not come back from the cruise. It is sad.

Hey Lisa --

You are right on with the gifted kids. Just like some kids struggle on the lower end of the bell curve, the gifted kids on the top end of the bell curve are special, too.

Since we homeschool, we can better control their academics, but they deal with the social issues just like any other gifted kid. It really has helped to find like-minded friends for the boys. DS12 has had another gifted friend since they were 3 yo. They have both always been accelerated so they can really relate. We've also found in FIRST LEGOs many other like-minded gifted kids. It really helped. DS12 communicates at a high level verbally (he reads non-stop), but doesn't get kids who communicate physically (even his little brother). He's learning, but it can still be a challenge.

One of the biggest challenges facing gifted kids today is non-excelling. There is lots of research into online . . .give it a look see . . .:surfweb:

I was a fashion photograpy and display major in college and can confess that I too love the smell of those nasty chemicals. Worst thing was finding the small cuts on your hands and fingers, Ouch
