The only issue you might want to consider is that the camera doesn't have an optical zoom, so when you zoom in, its like cropping the picture. So if you zoom in and then want to crop the picture later, you will lose resolution.... but then you knew this...

That reminds me, what is the differenc between digital and optical zoom?

Which is better? Zoom is something I need, along with a good flash!

I really can't afford 2 each,so just bought the white ones.

HEY....I say again I am only interested in white!!! I SWEAR I'm not trying to be difficult but "there is a certain age where you DON"T WEAR BLACK in high temps..................so I'm doing white only also. I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO can tell it's not the norm....but it's what I can do so I"M DOIN' IT:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

What's your background? I'm a civil/environmental engineer. Well before I became a fulltime mom/OT/SLP for my DD...

I do have rain barrels and those are great! The problem with those is that when we need the water, it's been weeks with no rain (the whole desert thing with about 15in average per YEAR) and when they're full it's because we've had a massive rain and nothing outside needs the water :rotfl2:

Lots of Engineers here I guess! DH & I are both Mechanical Engineers although neither of us works in that field. DH is a software project manager and I have been working for my father in the family business for the last 8.5 years doing everything from computer support, programming, sales, graphic design & advertising, etc, etc, etc.

DH is also the chairman of our town's Environmental commission - he has always been involved with that. The first thing he did when we moved into our house 18 years ago was put in a high efficiency furnace - they weren't all that common back then and people thought he was a little crazy - now it seems like everyone is putting them in! We switched to CFL bulbs throughout the house about 8 months ago - they seemed a little odd at first, but now I am used to them and actually prefer them. DS9 found an old underground cystern in our yard a couple years ago and DH is considering redirecting our downspouts into it to collect rainwater to use for watering his gardens. We are in the middle of putting in low-pressure drip watering which isn't used much here in the midwest.

I tried one, not sure if it was this one.

But....:cool1: ....they are back online today. The job I wanted is no longer posted, but there's another one I'm looking at now.

:thumbsup2 Monica - hope you tweak your resume in time - keeping my fingers and anything else crossed for you! :thumbsup2

Oh looky we discovered a whole side of you we didn't know before! Guess you'll be joining Cheryl, M & Laura on the bar! :rotfl2:

Hey I resemble that :rotfl2: - I wasn't actually dancing on the table - "Cindy" was. By the way, may I take this time to explain that while on the ship - you may see everyone's twin out there dancing as us respectable people are actually in the back watching them have a good time.

And for the record - I wasn't actually on the bar - I was however, on the ROcking Bar D stage dancing but only because I couldn't do the Russian dance. I'd of fallen on my but.

Not an expert, but digital zoom isn't really a true zoom. It's just like using cropping software to edit your photo. Optical zoom let's you truly zoom in at the same resolution so optical zoom is the only really important zoom to consider when buying a camera.

Prayers to your daughter. I hope all goes well..

I kept calling them Bahama Mama's so I am sure the salesperson thinks I am drunk hick. Too funny...:lmao:

Thanks for the prayers!!!

Did you see my pm to you???:confused3 :confused3 :confused3:hug:

You want optical zoom (optical = the lens is doing it). Digital zoom is an evil thing to be turned OFF in your camera's menu! :lmao: All digital zoom is really doing is cropping the photo to the section you have "zoomed" - you lose resolution and the photos look all pixellated. I really think the only reason manufacturers put digital zoom in cameras is so they can try and sell it as a feature to unsuspecting consumers who are confused about which is which.

Cheryl - Best wishes for your daughter and hoping for a good day with the grandkids for you! On the bright side, tomorrow has to be better than today :thumbsup2 So... what happened with the car purchase?

Pamela

Yes, Diane and you did a great job. I still have mine on the lanyard hanging from my BR Mirror.. What a great cruise that was as well!! Care to take on that job again?? I would have no clue how to do it!!

smart girl.
your secret is safe with us. We'll all act like we don't know you at the terminal. :thumbsup2

Well thanks! I realized that I don't have a picture posted anywhere, so maybe I'll get away with it and then just say "Hey hon. Look at all these fun people I met here." I'm social. I like to drink. Maybe he'll believe me!

Didn't he tell you that you needed "Formal" stuff? It's your honeymoon - what is more formal and appropriate than a wedding dress? ;) Actually, I like Tom's idea of the portraits (this seems to be a common thing at most formal events - not just cruises) - only problem is that you probably have about a million photos being taken at the wedding....

Maybe you should make plans with someone with a good loud voice for you to "run into" and just happen to strike up a conversation at the terminal who can then make an announcement to "that crazy pirate group" along the lines of "hey everyone - meet Jen and her husband - they just got married yesterday - isn't that cool!" and then if anyone seems to recognize you on the cruise you can write it off that they must have been with that group in the terminal .... :rotfl: :thumbsup2

Pamela

Good idea Pamela. We'll see what we can do!

::yes:: Jen.....um.....newlywed will fit right in. :rotfl2:

I hope so. Wouldn't want everyone running to the other end of the ship when I go in somewhere...might tip the ship! ;)

Say, you can always wear those Bride and Groom ears they have at the park!!!!!! Then everyone will know that you are newlyweds.

Oh you're sweet thanks! Chrissie is making tags that will attach to our lanyards & Shella has offered to make sticky name tags for embarkation day. :yay:

I am in the market for a new camera too! My little "throw it in the purse" point and shoot is at the end of its career with me. I looked around at Best Buy and I don't even know where to start. My DH has a nice camera that we use for the important stuff.

I want one that will take decent pictures.

It needs to be rugged enough to survive, well, to survive me.

Small enough to drop in my purse. But it doesn't need to be crazy small.

Waterproof, I can't decide if that is neccesary.

ETA: Fun colors are nice too!!!!

Any ideas?

PS, I saw the coolest camera, you point it at whoever you want and when they smile, it automatically takes the picture. SO COOL. Having 2 teenage boys, that might be the one for me, then when they accidentally smile, I will have proof! :rotfl: :rotfl: ;) ;)

I personally love my sony cybershot.

Do they have any good seafood or just good cheese steak?

Striped Bass or an Italian place called Ralph's (cash only) - this was like 15 years ago though...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all my fellow twins!

Ok, I looked at the other name and there is a PM there but it wont let me open anything. It tells me to report it to the admin. I will try tomorrow...

I look forward to them Diane. I already pmd here too!!

Good night all.. see you in the later AM.. OMG its 1205 already...ZZZZ time for me...

HHHMMMMMM....Crash has a loud voice -speaking of - he's our local paparazzi and always has his DSL camera with the official Stof-box on his flash. Jen.....um...newleywed ;) - look for the nice man carrying his three girls and the taller one of the three is actually his wife Aleisha (sorry for the spelling)

Cheryl - another twin for our Shots Around the Ship! :drinking1:
