Mickey Mouse Club graphic

For all those "do it yourself-ers" out there. I found the graphic in a book, scanned it, cleaned up the scan a little and posted it at photobucket. I'm just posting a link, since I scanned it as large as I could and it is over 400MB! I don't know if any of our pirates are still using dial-up, but if they are they wouldn't appreciate waiting for that to load up :cool1:

You can look at and download it from here. It is at 250dpi and is about 8" in diameter. If you want it smaller (i.e. kid's shirts or smaller women's shirts) you should be able to resize it down without too much trouble.

I would suggest using the transfer paper that they say is for "dark shirts" even though it is going on a white shirt since the colors will be much more vibrant. Unfortunately, it ends up feeling a little plastic-y - but it isn't too bad (DS tends to be very sensitive to how clothes feel and he isn't bothered too much by this as long as the whole shirt isn't covered with it. The other advantage of the "dark shirts" is that when you print onto the transfer you do not have to reverse the image - much easier for those who haven't tried this before.

For those who want to try this and haven't done it before, it isn't all that difficult - I'm not particularly crafty and have made a number of shirts for DS. A few tips I've learned over time.

* Wash the shirt first - sometimes there is sizing or starch in them which will cause the transfer to not work as well. When you wash it, skip the fabric softener or dryer sheet.

* 100% cotton works best, but I've done OK with 60% cotton

* Cut out the design, don't try to iron on the entire sheet. Square corners are particularly difficult so always cut rounded. (The circle shape of this logo should work great!)

* Preheat the iron - you want it good and hot before you start.

* Always iron on a hard surface - and ironing board will NOT work. I have used a butcher-block counter top and my glass cooktop in the past. I have also used the floor (wood laminate). Put a thin piece of fabric between the hard surface and the T-s**** - I usually use an old pillowcase. Lightly iron the shirt flat before you put the transfer on.

* Take a minute to make sure it is centered - If you can't eyeball it, use a ruler! Nothing looks sillier than an off-center design.

* Push down hard as you iron.

* Check the instruction from the transfer paper for how long to iron. Set a timer since once you are ironing and pushing down it starts seeming like forever and its only been 30 seconds!

* In the future, when you wash the T-s****, turn it inside out so that the transfer is on the inside.

If anyone has any questions, just PM or post and I'll try and answer. There are probably others here who have done this before also who could also offer advise. I have often found T-S**** on sale at Hobby Lobby or other crafty stores for $3 or $4. The transfer paper can sometimes be found at Dollar stores, but even if you buy it somewhere like Target I think you can get it for around $10 for 3 sheets, so $3.33 per shirt for a grand worse case total of about $7.33 per shirt.

Unless you're going to come to the packing party on July 2, you would select shipping. Esteri and a few pirates will be packing them and sending them out.

Thanks so much Monica, I just looked on the Pirate Zone website and found that info....I had a feeling that was the case, but wanted to make sure.

Todd, they did this is 05 on our EBPC. I kinda thought they would have had it on your med repo.:)

No , they didnt have it on the Med Repo .....One thing I thought about is we need to make sure we have Mickey Mouse ears too , I mean you cant be a mouseketeer if you dont have ears ...Looks like I be wearing me Pirate ears ...arrrrrr

...[ed]...

Thanks Crash.

You know M...

I was actually thinking more or less EXACTLY what you originally posted... that you needed a "pick me up" bit of humor (or SOMETHING) ... cuz I felt like the moment was ..... dragging. I've had a busy day - gardening in the mild heat - chores - and we had an interview with next years' Jr K-school teacher for my younger one today. Plus my spouse is away and I'm in the middle of cooking supper for the kids. So - it's just sort of bumping along ....

So - actually what I was going to post before I saw your postring was a suggestion asking if anyone felt like chatting in the pirate zone? But then I had to fade to check on my chicken that was cooking....:surfweb:

Quick!!! I'm ordering Kevin's tux....What's the Port we sail from????

I truly believe today is a jinxed Monday. I was having one of those days myself today too. :duck:

I had a whole week of those kind of days.:( :( Nothing funny but will this help!!

I've had a whole year

Thanks. In the grand scheme of things, I know we are very fortunate, but it is getting difficult putting up with jobs we hate, a school we hate, etc. I know we are lucky to have jobs, school, etc. but I just need to wallow for a while. We really need to get the kids out of their school, but Catholic school doesn't seem like an option because DS9 has an IEP and won't get the help he needs. Plus I doubt we'd get them in anywhere for next year anyway. We are just stuck. Granted, there are worse places to be stuck, but it still sucks.

I think we are leaving from the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. I have heard so many names for it, I get confused on what its official name is though. Maybe someone can confirm?

I totally know what you mean. One minute I feel so blessed and the other minute I think, WHY???
I think there is nothing wrong with venting, wallowing---For me, personally, if its for a short time it always helps me to get over things, feel better, and move on. If I bottled it up, I would explode later. We all have some of those days...or weeks....or years.

Something you might check into... DD is on a perscription formula that the insurance covers since she is 100% tube fed. Does he have a tube through the nose or will they do the g-tube surgery? If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I may be able to answer some general questions.

We are in a whirlwind right now....I am assuming th etub would be g-tube but I could be wrong. Good to hear that insurance will pay, hope that is the case for DFIL. I am sure I will have questions when i really have a chance to sit and reallly think about the whole thing. He has to go visit a few drs first and then make a decision.

Kids being sent home early due to excessive heat (and some schools without a/c)

Hey M, like the East sweltering heat?
OMG it was so hot here yesterday with heat index is was like 110. Today was a little cooler at 105 but its still HOT. I wish our school would have let us out. We had 6 snow days banked and did not use one of them but they are still making us finish this week :(

Thanks everyone for their thoughts...Doc put Richard on muscle relaxants for the back and said the reason for the work from home was that the drive with traffic is to much. We will see on Friday if he feels better for next week. he is fine..Xray will be tomorrow morning as a precaution (x-raying his back).

Richard says he feels fine except a little sore and back issues.

I am so glad he is okay. What a scary thing to happen! Tell him to obey Dr's orders and rest!

DH and will be celebrating his birthday while we are on the cruise.

We will also be celebrating our 30th anniversary as well.

There will be quite a few of us celebrating while on this cruise actually. You have Kevin and I beat by 1 year.

They did not do this on our WB Med Repo either :(
Love the shirts though. I probably won't get them for all 6 of us, but definitely for me and 2 DDs. :)

What is going to be going on at 10:45?

M, does your school district allow you to choose to attend a different school within the disctrict? I think a lot of places refer to it as "School Choice". Here, we can do it as long as the other school isn't over-crowded and we provide the transportation (no buses provided). Having to transport your kids to a further school might be a pain, but if the other school isn't as awful as the current one it might be worth it.

On the plus side for now, isn't school about over? At least you don't have to deal with that for a few months. DS9 had a horrible first grade and DH & I were counting down those last days of school as fervently as he was!
