What are some ideas for these fish extenders,...???What will be put inside them??

Every cabin has a metal sculpted "FISH" with a retention slot behind it for a few letters or notes. How convenient, eh? That is ... if all you'll ever get are a couple of letters at any one time.

Now a "Fish extender" is typically a hand sewn fabric contraption that is about 7" wide and maybe 2.5-3 feet long with usually THREE to FIVE pockets for holding many letters, some small items or a few modestly bulky items possibly up to the size of a medium sized paper back book. Often the decoration of these "fish extenders" is as varied as snowflakes are different.

Experienced DIS enthusiasts bring theirs along to hang up (often zip tied to the FISH to discourage petty theft of the Fish Extender itself). And if there is any meaningful crowd of DIS enthusiasts ... then a number of DIS neighbors will surprise everyone with tokens and perhaps small unique gifts. A few folks may get a medium sized ROCK too.

igotarock.jpg

Think of it as "Trick or Treat" for DIS folks - with 99% being modest "treats" .... plus the ocassional "rock". I was (to put it mildly) amazed at what resulted from our particiaption with the FISH EXTENDER diversions on our last DCL voyage - an 11 nite southern special.

FOlks who hang up a fish extender are NOT obligated to bring aboard special items/gifts for every other neighbor with a Fish Extender. It's all voluntary - and an exercise in genuine neighborly good will IMO. Excepting those who get rocks though.... < wink >

Here are a few photos of FIsh Extenders from our last voyage:

We also have our flight to California on Thursday, our transportation to our hotel that night, our hotel reservation for Thursday to Saturday night, and our transportation to the port on Sunday.

Now to figure out if one or two days at Disneyland. I would love to do the two days, but I do not know if that will happen.

If you are at DL Saturday night, find us at the Fantasmic show -- a bunch of us are getting together for the earlier show (More details closer to time!)

I am tired. I am not going to post today.

Shoot. That didn't work out like I planned.

Night all!

You are too funny!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

OOOooohh Cool! Thanks for posting!

So I have a question. Does anyone worry about posting too much personal info online like some people do? Like real full names and real cities that you live in?

What about for the magnets? It just seems like a bad idea to have all the first/last names on the door for everyone to see...

Has anyone ever had a problem with doing either of these? Maybe I worry too much!:confused3

I don't use my last name on the boards or put it on my door. Other than that, I don't worry too much about it.

Hi Everyone!

I just joined. We're booked on the TOAL Eastbound Panama Canal Cruise. We booked the first day( way back when) but I just started looking for information about the cruise and you certainly looked like a fun bunch. I managed to get a Palo brunch, tea and dinner and most of the shore excursions I wanted. We have everything but a stateroom assignment. How many of you are still just on a guaranteed status. We're guaranteed category 5. There is way too much information to go through to see if a lot of you are still at this status. It seems that if they are now selling more cabins they could at least get the original reservations a stateroom assignment. We're also interested in the Mr. Emerald Cartgena tour. We like to take a tour and then have some time to look around on our own and find the Hard Rock Cafes for souvenirs. Our anniversary happens to fall on the Puerto Vallarta day and I booked the Rhythms of the Night Shore Excursion. It seemed like a romantic thing to do. Is anyone on that excursion? I now noticed the Sunset Cruise and that sounds romantic too but it is now filled. This is going to be one great cruise and as you say a TOAL.

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm on the Rhythms of the Night . . .

Gee...

I see just under 80 cabins listed here (including my little sub-group of 8 cabins) ... and I KNOW we gotta have more DIS friends and neighbors on this voyage! You see... Downrivermama, MrsScooby, pdarrah, radioclash2, tiggrbaby and I have gone to great lengths < collective groaning may commence > to purchase 200 custom semi-hand made magnetic dry erase memo pads... so I'd like to ask EVERY lurking friend on our voyage to sign up - maybe hang a home made paper bag off their "fish" or whatever so we can shower you with surprise "treats"... and maybe a custom made magnetic dry erase memo pad ... that can double as a fridge magnet dry erase memo pad if no one steals it (or your pen) off the door!

< Collective groaning may now subside - now all at once ... everyone "Wink" and grin please >

Crash, not everyone on the Dis thread will put up a FE . . . so you need to use the roster of the cruise (some one will be putting that together eventually, right?) to pass out the dry erase boards. For example, Andrew never puts one up, but he needs to have the dry erase board so that I can put goading remarks occasionally on his door . . .

I've thought about it, but not worry about it, if that makes sense. The way I look at it is if someone really wants to find you, they will. Even if you don't post cities, last names, etc. They can piece together seamingly innocent stuff that you do post.

Welcome Aboard.

There are many who are still waiting for cabin assignments. They probably won't happen until about the 30 day mark.

I don't think that this tells us anything new, but I thought that I'd share it anyways! I emailed DCL to ask about all aboard time in Acapulco and this spreadsheet was their response.

We are boarding at Acapulco at 1:00 and departing at 1:01 !!!:confused3

and I guess we are never departing Aruba and continuing to Castaway Cay!:scared1:

This is great Michelle:thumbsup2
Thanks for posting it.
At least it gives us an idea of what is planned:goodvibes

...[ed]....

wow I didn't know y'all were doing that. you guys rock!

well whoever doesn't sign up now you might find later or at the meet when we get there or something? I think not everyone keeps up with this thread to see the posts about it to get added on and some don't read the other board either. :(

Well BIP,

... don't be so quick to complement us with "YOU ROCK" until ya see a) whether you get a "rock" in your fish extender from us.... and b) whether we skip deliverin' a custom semi-hand made magnet memo pad with deluxe dry erase pen to your cabin. I thought our task force took a vote and excluded a few rascals like .... you. < silent shifty grinnin' >

OK... we actually have NOT taken a full vote yet... butI vaguely recall your screen ID being singled out for one reason or another... ???

I just got a call from my local bloodbank letting me know I am due to donate. I usually let the recorder pick them up but decided to answer to find out about exclusions.
I assumed because I had "cancer" that I would be excluded from donating. She was so nice and looked everything up for me. Turns out Basal Cell Carcinoma does not exclude me. :woohoo:
Since she was so nice I asked to look up all our ports: Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Cartegena Colombia and Aruba. Contrary to what I was told earlier NONE of those destinations exclude me from donating.  I asked her to triple check as I know when I went to Aruba last I was excluded for a year but she said they change the criteria all the time.
Yay! I was feleling so bad to not being able to donate. I am one of those people who could not care less about needles so I feel like it is a moral obligation to have blood when others need it. When Megan needed multiple transfusions (too little to make her own blood) someone took their time to make it available for her.
Commercial for donating blood over. ;)

Good commercial:thumbsup2

Oh these are lovely!
You guys are all so creative- my door is gonna stink in comparison--- bigtime! LOL

Ditto here.... Debb and Kev are throwing down that gauntlet to serve notice to all us Swabbie and WENCH slackers! We're gonna all hav ta focus some attention on dressing our doors properly!

gauntlet.jpg

Seriously, Debbie... those are some beautifully creative door signs!

Do your kids say they did something "on accident?" My daughter says that and it drives me nuts. I always say it was an accident. Oh well, off to dd's softball game at 6pm.

Also big news. Katie is now a member of the Wyandotte Academy Youth Choir Ensemble! She got the letter yesterday and is in seventh heaven!:cloud9: Only thing is in looking at last years schedule, they start practicing the last week of August!:scared1: I guess I have to write another letter to the director.

You should hear our school Principal make morning announcements!
" Boys and girls,we will not have recess on tomorrow'!
Or "I pledge allegience,to the flag,of the United States of America. And to the Republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, Invisible, with liberty and justice for all"

Just a reminder about the Group Tastings....if you want to participate, please email Laurie. We currently have 30-40 people for each tasting.
I will be posting a list later tonight to help you remember whether or not you've signed up.

taken from the pirate zone
If you are interested in signing up, please send an email to Laurie (MrsScooby) at mrsscoobie@yahoo.com -- take note, Scoobie is spelled differently in the email address. Please provide your Name, DISBoard Name, Tasting preference (or choose LUSH for all tastings

), and how many people for each tasting.

As we get more details we'll let you all know. We are hoping to have the schedule prior to boarding

My cousin, back in 1993 was about 3 years old and was with my uncle, a contractor, visiting a couple of the houses my uncle was spec building. My cousin wanders off and is watching the plumber working in the kitchen. The plumber had removed the 2x4 from the sliding glass doors to let some air in and my cousin looks out and falls 10 feet to the concrete patio below, landing on his head, cracking his skull from ear to ear around the back (which allowed him to live). My uncle scoops him up, dials hospital on his "bag phone" and proceeds to talk, shift, keep one hand on son lying on front seat and drive to hospital where they work on my cousin then airlift him to Children's Hosp in Philly 100+ miles away......

Once he was discharged I think it was 3 or 4 years before he was allowed to play outside without a football helmet on....:lmao: :lmao:

Of course prior to accident, he never spoke and was shy. He hasn't shut up since...

:scared1: :scared1: The things a 3 year old can survive:confused:

You were all very kind today!!!:flower3: Only 20 pages I am still sifting through!!

Just wanted to say

INDIANA JONES WAS GREAT!!!

Good story, although a little drag in a spot or two. The stunts were fantastic!!! Besides....Harrison Ford still looks hot even if he is 65!!

Our HOA just passed new rules (over my strong objections) about 'holiday' decorations. Other than Christmas, they said you cannot have holiday decorations up for more than one week prior and two days after the holiday. (For Christmas, it is from Thanksgiving until March, though).

I argued that they were not being clear but they insisted it made sense.

So, my American Flag is going up this weekend and staying up. I want to see if they call it a "holiday" decoration.

Come September, my Halloween decorations will go up September 15. Corn stalks, pumpkins and lights. I want to see if they complain, because I don't decorate for Halloween -- I decorate for Autumn and that runs from September until December. (This is what I was trying to explain to them -- they didn't define 'holiday'. IF I wanted to, I could find a holiday every week and claim that is what I have my lights on for -- they are usually only white fairy lights, so those can be used for ANY holiday).

They also complain about people's grass being too high, but they haven't come to cut the parkway grass in a month. I should send a letter to the management company fining them for this.

Now I know why I liked you. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

BIP, San Pedro is usually not hot even in August. The average temperature for the area in August is in the low to mid 70's.

I will be freezing then!!! :lmao: I might have to bring a black sweatshirt!!:rotfl2:

Sorry..it was 1 in the morning and I wasn't thinking..thanks!

I just wanted to make sure everyone knew where to be!! :goodvibes The only person I ever yell at is poor John!!:lmao: :lmao: Yet we still love each other!!:lovestruc

Here is the list of who have ordered lanyards. If you do not see your name - please PM me with the info. I think I got everyone
We are up to 252 lanyards!
You Rock!!!

Phew! Another thing out of the way! Got our flights to LAX and from MCO booked last night! We arrive in LAX at 8:42AM on the 17th and leave MCO at 2:15PM on the 1st!
It's hard to believe that last Saturday I wasn't going on the cruise and now I'm booked, paid in full, have flights, transfers and excursions booked! WOO HOO!!!! :dance3:

Now it is a dream come true and a TOAL!!!!
