Silly me for a sec i thought you were talking about the panama canal...:lmao:

Nice attitude...........

Of course it couldn't also be so that they could change boats to be handicapped accessible or nicer quality either. Wheelchairs and scooters and the like do weigh more. Their full boats now have had "stuck" issues.

So let's not just blame those like Pooh... (vent over JMO)

Good point, I didn't intend to blame anyone - Sorry K.

This was more my thought - from the CDC:

The average weight for men aged 20-74 years rose dramatically from 166.3 pounds in 1960 to 191 pounds in 2002, while the average weight for women the same age increased from 140.2 pounds in 1960 to 164.3 pounds in 2002.

Multiplied by, what, 12-16 people in a boat. That's an extra 288-385 per boat. Ish. I think. I don't do math.

I still haven't got all the details from Mr. Emerald--which is very aggravating. I would recommend that you book a Cartagena excursion and then cancel it if you wish. I guess I threw him when trying to add Baru to the mix and then talking about the numbers of people interested.:confused3

Paula,

Another DISer is also trying to book with Mr. Emerald and got this reply within the last week:
I am off in the U.S. for my son's graduation and a visit to family in the
U.S., so have been only able to get to my email occasionally.

Might clear up why you haven't heard anything. I seem to recall reading something about him being out of country until the 22nd????? We will be booking a backup excursion thru DCL but would love to join your group if all works out with Mr. Emerald.

Ok..I have played ketchup! You all were chatty while I was gone for a few hours...I am the cookie manager for our neighborhood (which means that I do all the paperwork and cookie scheduling for 30 troops in our area) and tonight was our wrap up meeting..while I was there..I found out that DD was indeed the top seller this year out of the 6000 girls in our Council who sold cookies! We are keeping it a secret from her until the cookie party that the Council gives to celebrate all the girls who sold over 500 boxes. They will announce it then and give her the prize..she won a Wii.

As for lanyards....we are currently at 86 lanyards! :woohoo: I like the wording "DCL Magic"..

Did it come with the plastic thingys????:confused3

Isn't this like the 5th time he (Joey Fatone) is the celebrity cruiser on DCL??? Have they mentioned if Ducky Willians is on their cruise?
I am still annoyed they took away they live band for the sailaway party. I thought it was a bit of a cheesy move.

No live band for sailaway.. I guess I missed it somewhere.

Sounded good and cheap.... For instance the part where the toured a house subdivision. :lmao:

Did those amounts include insurance Cheryl?

Was with insurance with transfers!!!!:cool1:

Coral, part of it (from what I've read over the past few months) is that our area has always had very stable housing prices. They have never been inflated -- which is a huge part of the problem in some areas.

We have the inflated prices of houses. So if we retired now.....we would lose about $40,ooo so glad we have a few years to see the market go up!!!:rolleyes1

I've never seen him so, he would be new to me. ;)

I am excited to see Joey and Alphanso. I wacth Prince of BelAir every night while trying to fall asleep.:sad2:

My experience: On our last cruise, we had no plans to spend much time with the DIS group except Palo brunch. I forgot about the sail-away meet so didn't meet anyone at all the first day. The next day, SWMBO and I were drinking at the bar and she noticed a group of women were doing a Christmas ornament exchange. I realized that must be the DIS group and we went over and introduced ourselves.

From that moment on, we ran into someone we knew every day. Every excursion we were on had someone from that group of people on it (even though we had not planned it that way).

And it turned out our pseudo-tablemates were also from the meet thread even though we didn't know that until the second night.

No one was wearing T-shirts or lanyards or pins, but we still found people from the meet thread. So put the stinky lime green T-S****s away after the first day.

But what if I do like Lime Green????

Well, off to work I go. You all have a wondertful day:goodvibes

We miss your posting Paula!!! Waiting to see the pictures of remodel.:thumbsup2

Ohhhh, you are in TROUBLE :rolleyes1

Now that you know me.....it is nothing new!!!:lmao: :lmao:

OK, what exactly are the "Forever Stamps"? I think I have some (with Flags, no price) from Christmas, but not sure :headache:
That won't due, now will it

Forever means .......no matter what the post office is charging the stamp is good forever and no extra is needed when prices are raised.:woohoo:

Sounded good and cheap.... For instance the part where the toured a house subdivision. :lmao:

After reading Laura's more detailed description of her DCL excursion, I would definitely go with a non-DCL tour. One that Jolene went on sounds as if you can basically customized your own tour.

Well it's just par for the course with our luck, I'm telling you. the one time we go to the disneyland and the one ride my littlest asks about- and it's being refurbed... in the summer. That's unusual to be refurbed in the summer or for that LONG of a period of time, right?
*sigh*
:confused3

It will be down for over a year. It was closed after the Christmas season this year and is not expected to reopen until early 2009. The whole canal has to be redone. The DL version is probably twice as long at the WDW version, so that's a lot of track to be replaced.

When I left my apartment this morning, there was police warning tape all around, lots of police and police cars, etc. It turned out that there was a raccoon (a pretty big one) hanging out in the tree right in front of our building. Now some of you may see lots of raccoons, but this is the first time I have seen one on the Upper East Side. They eventually shot a tranquilizer into him and caught him in a net to take to animal control. I am hoping they will release him somewhere out of the city rather than euthanize him -- he was pretty darn cute. I took some pictures but don't know if they turned out. If so, I will try to post a few later.:goodvibes

Julie...................you are such a city girl!!!:lmao: :lmao: I have seen a coyote walking down the middle of my street in the afternoon. I only live 20 mintues away form O'hare airport!!!:scared1: :scared1:

In small print is takes care of raccoins too!!

BiodefendRaccoonRepellentBD1018.jpg

It's going to be a HOT one today. It was only 68 when I left my house. It was 81 by the time I got to work. And it's only 8:30 am. Supposed to get up to 95.

I'm right of the SF Bay. It never gets this hot here. We've usually got our built in air conditioner (fog) and the bay breeze. Not today. We're cooking!

I will trade you weather!!! High of only 60 but should be 70 by now!!

Before Cheryl decided to not stay at the port, she had them ready to start whenever we needed it, she had a contact name/number/person ....

Okay ...blame me......I have big shoulders!!!!

cgon119l.jpg

All you have to do is talk to the head bell captain who arranges the bus servie,,,,but I did warn you they do break for lunch no matter what!!:rolleyes1

The larger average size of the public is what the media has latched on to. The truth of it is that with each repair, the canal just got more fiberglass layed over the last patch. When you keep repair by just putting more on top, you end up with a more shallow canal. Its not that the boats were weighing more, but that the canal wasn't as deep anymore.

Buckle your seatbelt......

It looks like Panama is in the EST time zone, but doesn't practice daylight savings time, so they would be on CDT which is EST

So Central Daylight Savings Time?:confused3

So no sleep tonight....gotta watch the crossing

no sleep tomorrow....Chat

no sleep Sunday....."Hassle Free Booking"

guess I won't be around much Saturday, that will be my only time to get some sleep

I'm reading the grown up book "The Path Between the Seas" and the French were very good at doing some dumb things relative to the diseases:
  • they placed dirt around all their plants and filled it with water to keep the fire ants off, giving mosquitos place to breed
  • they believed the disease came from the dirt and there wasn't anything they could do about it (although some French scientists identified the specific variety of mosquito that was responsible for the diseases, their findings were buried by the political establishment who "knew" things better)
  • they had no sewers, so filth built up in streets/alleys
  • they put all their sick in common wards, so if you broke your arm, you were put in the same ward with contagious yellow fever/malaria victims. Once you were in the wards, it was basically a death sentence
The kids book (we have it also) is very good, but brushes over lots of stuff.

I listened to this book on my i-pod (since I do a lot of driving) and really enjoyed it. There was so much about the process of builiding of the canal that I did not know. My DH is currently listening to it (and he doesn't even get to go on the TOAL).

You're trying to kill us with that link, right??? I want to go NOOOOOOWWWWWWW!

Her room steward, Rodolpho, was ours once. He is, hands down, the absolute BEST. And by looking at her room number, that means he may very well by MY steward in June!!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
